I'm back people, I went down to the store at 11:40. There were crew members on every end of the block preventing pedestrians walking from that side also not permitting anyone to take photos with flash, regular apple store employee's were also still at the scene with their blue tshirts. It looks like they finished shooting the outside part and turned the lights off except the big apple logo, possibly moved downstairs for an in-store filming. I asked one of the crew members what's going on and he told me they were shooting a movie. Obviously I didn't expect an answer like " we're shooting the new ad for the iphone 2".

I also took a photo of outside but it doesn't have much to add so I'm not posting it.
If I were you I wouldn't expect something is gonna happen like an early release or something.

While that's an interesting thought, I think the level of production people are seeing would indicate that the product of this shoot is more likely designed for mass consumption (the video product, not the subject product/service) as opposed to the video being shown during that keynote, which was for a small group, and Steve thought he'd just add it to his presentation. Just my $.02

I'm not saying I think its true... but I think its possible.

Or we could see

Hello, I'm a Smartphone
And I'm an iPhone

;-)

I actually meant to include this possibility in my first post, but I had already written 2 volumes and an appendix there...

Yeah, I think it's very likely that a feature, or smaller budget film would want to use that store if there were a reason to be in one. But without a lot of self-important people manager types, I didn't think there would likely be any celebs there to support the feature film theory. Though they often want to keep the public away from anyone with a great deal of notoriety, there are always some mid-level to nobody PAs that want the attention of telling who is there and why nobody is supposed to know about that. Am I wrong? I would think that if a significant film were being shot there, some self-important nobody would have surfaced and drawn attention to themselves by now.

You can't listen to anyone that surrounds that Apple store who is working on that event, they'll give you nothing but ********, and it drives you mad!!!!!

Does everyone remembers a recent patent regarding the virtual life.... virtual shop with online avatars for shoppers....

I have a feeling that this advert / shooting has got something to do with that....

Seems logical coz this would require a huge Apple store like background to help people visualise the concept better.... Or may be they want to demo a iControl.... device which will require a bigger space to shoot..... and a huge apple store would make an obvious choice....

I think it has to be more than a simple one to one promotion.

Why would you do it at the flagship? Why not in an everyday normal Apple store?

So - I called the guys at "stills to video productions", they handle all of Apple's post production.

According to their redheaded team (Steve thinks their pretty DEEEECENT).

The shoot is for a 3G iPhone commercial.

They're remaking the dream sequence in the Big Lebowski - but iPhone branded. Pretty sweet.

hahahahaa, yeah... that's exactly what Steve wants people associating the brand with.

But, at least you made me open the movie from my Mini's drive to watch while I put off the work I have to get accomplished tonight. I love that sequence!

kidding=not ;)

It's a Jib. A Camera Crane.

Going to sleep, but does this help anyone identify the equipment (be sure to check out the larger sizes)?

It's called a Jib.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jib_(camera)

Many have a pully-like system so as the crane moves up, the camera rotates down an equal number of degrees so it's always pointing in the same direction, or adjusted so it looks up or down more.

The jib in the photo is of the super budget variety. Top of the line. It telescopes out into a long crane, but telescopes back to shrink for easy transport. Also, there is no pully system, but rather computers control all the action of the crane and camera, motors and gears moving it all.

Come on, already posted this a few pages back. Does no one read my posts?

Sorry.... but cant be bothered to go through all 15 pages. But m glad we are at the same frequency.... Hopefully its something new. 3G Iphone is inevitable I want to see ONE MORE THING.... (multiple times at WWDC)

Yes, that traffic cone looks to be of the PVC variety, specifically the ones distributed by Shanghai Himmers Industrial & Trading Co., Ltd. You may try their website at http://www.globalsources.com/himmers.co

Can anyone confirm this?

Looks to be right. The traffic cone in the front is a TC-22A model with a 22C (added reflective strips) behind. Traffic cone fans may be interested to know that the 22C is very rare model, a collectors item. Only 750 were made before the reflective strips were found to contain carcinogens.

More traffic cone news as it comes to hand.

I think it is obvious that this is the Guided Tour video for the new iPhone.

P.S. That is a huge freaking production just for a training video lol. Apple are you getting a little spending happy???

Because of the different types of shots needed for different projects (ie: large sweeping shots of the exterior of the cube for a dramatic Hollywood presentation effect via commercial, a full panoramic view of the cube from every angle for a simulated online store, etc.) if anyone watched the camera movements while they were filming outside, it might give insight into what kind of visual presentation Apple is working on. (Although standing outside the store and monitoring every possible camera angle and move is slightly obsessive.)

No way. Apple wouldn't shut down one of their biggest stores for over 12 hours to shoot one of those little guided tour things that they have been shooting in studios.

LOL!

Any blue or orange traffic cones made by FOXCONN there?? :D

... and you dont call this obsessive?

Well the rear one looks to be of the rubber variety, something like the HPS-TC70R... the orange is faded, so it's harder to tell at first.

That front one though, I'd have agreed with you at first but with that narrow base, and lack of stripes, I'd say it's a HPS-TC90PVC.

At least someone here was happy to be as ridiculous as I am, I was beginning to think I was the only one entertained. :) Crap I have to get to work.

... and you dont call this obsessive?

Well, not really. I'm a film student and I know what technical moves are needed of industry equipment to produce popular visual effects into today's mass media market. I'm just here, trying to scavenge for any bit of iPhone hints, just like any good fangirl ;)

Like I said... Sources have confirmed that they are making a 3G iPhone commercial.

It's based on the dream sequence in the Big Lebowski.

Instead of bowling pins on their heads... Imagine iPhones.

Nice.

Anyway, it's probably the Genesis, but it almost looks like a Panastar without a mag. I'm thinking from the handle looking piece in the photo. A little bit different angle and I could tell for sure. In any case, I'd bet on Genesis. I doubt they're shooting 35.

I wouldn't call that a jib either. It looks more like a technocrane.
