I've got a capacity of 26.4 gig on a 32 gig iPad Pro with 18gig available. I think that is just greed in the extreme. We should be insulted. What is 'Pro' about such a tiny capacity?

I'm thinking they probably are. They should have made sure they had the 64GB chips, but for some reason they didn't, so they stick us with the 32GB ones.

Not that i'm complaining with my 32GB. I'll just upgrade when the 64GB chips become available.

Or maybe the cloud will do it. Not sure.

Whoa. That's a smaller available amount than I would have guessed. I figured it'd be around 22 gb available or so.

26.4 GB is the "formatted" amount of space. It is not actually 32 GB in your iPad Pro just like there's not actually full 16 GB on iPhones (it's really 11.9 GB).
That with the space taken up by the iOS system files which is around 1-4 GB.

The rest of the space that is missing is your stuff. . .

You should be ashamed of yourself for buying the base model.

You mean you wanted a pro and didn't want to spend the extra for the 128? Damn, I wish there was a choice of models!

You knew full well what you were getting into. Own up to it.

Seeing as how huge this device is yeah 32gb seems comical. However if you are just a stream queen then it should be fine.

That's right, I don't have any music or movies on my desktops. I don't see the point. I'm not some kid who watches Terminator 50 times (although I did stream Genisys last week....awesome film BTW :D )

I would have gotten the 64GB, but alas..........

a 16GB iPhone really has 12GB of space. That's 75%.
a 32 GB iPad Pro really has 18GB of space. That's almost 50%.

Using past Apple products as a benchmark, no one here would expect the difference to be that much.

The OP said the actual capacity starting out was 26.4 GB which is 82%. The 18 GB available implies that he has apps and content on it already.
This is nothing new. All companies advertise a certain amount but the actual 'formatted' amount is lower.

Meanwhile, Amazon is selling $50 tablets with SD slots for expandable storage. I bought my younger kids two of them, and they're solid.

I'm not saying these $50 slabs are in the same galaxy of an iPad Pro, but I am saying that putting an SD slot on a tablet isn't exactly rocket science in late 2015, unless you want to squeeze every last nickel out of your customers.

Oh ok. I thought it was 18 GB out of the box!

I would just be happy 16GB isn't the standard. - I call it forward progress as much you call it baloney

I bought the base model but I had an iPad Air 2 64gb and still had 45gb left so I only use less than 20gb's of space with all my stuff so 32gb is plenty for me. You shouldn't tell anyone they should be "ashamed" of buying the base model,it's not peanuts we're talking about here. With tax and overnight shipping it was $890 that's a lot of money. Some of us just don't need a whole lot of space and I got what worked for me

I'm not knocking on you for buying the base model. I have a 16 GB iPhone 6 (leasing for two years) and 16 GB iPad Air 2. They fit my needs since everything is in the Cloud or Home Sharing with my Mac.
I'm just saying that he should have known that 32GB wasn't enough for 'his use.'

32GB base storage is greater than the base storage of all of the other iPads. People were clamoring for Apple to make 32GB the base storage. With the Pro they have.

Before you make reference to 4K video recording/editing, anyone intending to do much of that would most likely want even more than 64GB. Other than that, there shouldn't be a significant increase in storage usage that would make 32GB a relative step backward from 16GB on non-Pro iPads.

Apple knows EXACTLY what storage options to offer at what price point to get a significant number of people to ante up for the next storage capacity up. That is by design. That is not a secret. If people who don't like it, then do what Apple listens to most intently... purchase a competitive product. You bought the 32GB iPad Pro. They got money from you...why should Apple do anything differently?

I thought that there would be complaints about the $150 jump between storage options, not the 32GB baseline. I was a bit irritated by that myself.

I know. It's just pure unadulterated greed.
Unadulterated greed? That's quite the hyperbole.

why would someone buy a 'pro' device but only get the 32 gig base model? I ordered the 128, but with there was a higher capacity :)

Coming from a former GeekSquad agent, SD cards are the bane of customer service. Constantly dealt with people who lost data because the car became corrupted, or they stupidly just pulled it out.

No thanks, not worth the headache.

I got a 32gb as I don't keep media or games on the app. Only really use it to read and design/ work. Didn't use close to 64gb with my Air and doubt i will on this.

I can imagine the 32gb would be useful for artists who only really want to draw.

To the OP though, you bought it at the price they're selling it for. Doesn't that mean they set the price correctly? Don't forget, companies are supposed to make profits.

32GB should be base storage for a phone but for a Prosumer device that's marketed as being able to edit 4K videos it's a lame joke especially without SD card slot. It should have 128GB base like the same priced Surface Pro 4 that also has SD card slot that can take 200+ GB cards.

I would have saved money by not choosing overnight.
