The real question, is why Apple released the 32gb in the first place... Base model storage should have been 64gb, but that would have eaten into sales of the 128gb model.
20-odd gig of space on a "pro" device... Sigh.

Apple is pathetic to be honest, in this day and age for the price people are going to be paying for this "pro" device, I would expect 64 GB min. The surface 3 alone gets that as a min.

This is evidence again that Apple picked the right base storage size. They had 16GB as the base for the iPads, people complained wanting 32GB to be the base. Apple picked 32GB for the Pro, and people complaining want 64. In both cases, the complaints didn't stop people from buying them.

Hey, did you know that the iPad Pro has the word "pro" in the title? I learned that reading through this thread because every other person felt the need to condescendingly point out that it's an iPad "Pro". I wonder if these same people go to GameStop and stand at the counter and lecture every customer who buys a collector's edition that they aren't really collectors and should just be buying the regular edition.

For this model, however, it should have been 64gb.

Thank you for proving my point. :)

This isn't rocket science. The only thing that Apple listens to is $$$... if you think that 64GB should be the $799 model, contact Apple and tell them that is the reason why you haven't purchased one. It carries a lot more weight if you tell them you bought a competitor's product instead.

32GB should be base storage for a phone but for a Prosumer device that's marketed as being able to edit 4K videos it's a lame joke especially without SD card slot. It should have 128GB base like the same priced Surface Pro 4 that also has SD card slot that can take 200+ GB cards.
Yes, but the Surface Pro uses Windows 10, which takes up at least 12 gigs of storage off the top, versus the apparent 6 gigs that iOS takes up on the iPad Pro. Add to that, Windows apps tend to take up much more storage space that iOS apps. Therefore, 128 GB on a Surface Pro (or any other Windows laptop, since people tend to use the Surface Pro more like a laptop than a tablet) is NOT the same as 128 GB on an iPad.

I'm sure Apple know exactly what they are doing with storage size options.

I've got a 64GB iPad Air 2 and use about half that. A 64GB iPP would be ideal
but I will go with the 32GB version. Have a hard enough time convincing my
wife I should be getting one at all so cheapest is best! For what I'm likely to
use it for 32GB will suffice. Want a keyboard and pencil haha so that pushes
up the price.

Counter argument is Windows OS and software are full featured compared to limited blown up phone OS and apps. Even then disk usage taken by software or apps is relatively small compared to data, media, etc. files whose size are independent of OS.

Ummm.... That's the problem. Windows has fully featured apps that aren't optimized for the environment in which you are working.

How and why would a individual purchase a device that is called a Pro. With 32gb's. Then complain about having a limited storage capacity. I love macrumors. Always something to laugh about. Lol

And if you did. Why complain.
Because the were forced to buy something that they didn't want. Ever hear of Apple's reality distortion ray gun? Apple zapped 'em with it. ;)

Here's what it looks like:

I have a 64GB iPad Air 2 and I use about 9gb on it so the 32GB iPad Pro would work just fine. It depends on your usage. Apple shouldn't do something just because their cheapest option doesn't suit your usage scenario. That's why there are options.

I have the same but use about 30GB. However I think that a lot of that is
useless junk that could easily be ditched.

Apple make a 32GB pro so they obviously think there is a market fior it.
They are not stupid, I'm sure they know us better than we think!

I'm an Apple fan but I learned throughout the years not to buy their first generation product. This is when they normally bait people on paying more for what the cost of production really is because it's "new" and hyped but really lacks the needed component to justify the price. I tend to wait for at least third generation where they normally pack it with features that are more justifiable to spend money on.

Their cheapest option isn't really all that cheap, though, is it. Add a case and a pencil and you're looking at $1000. Add a warranty and you'll be spending even more.

I agree that if one chooses the 32gb model knowing it's probably not going to have enough space for their needs, they have only themselves to blame. But Apple shouldn't be selling a 32gb base for this product if the only other option is 128. The base should have been 64.

The good news is iPads tend to drop in price relatively quickly. In a couple months you'll probably be able to find some 128gb models for 850

Yeah, but Apple isn't forcing you into buying anything. Again saying "Apple shouldn't be doing....." becomes a moot point. My understanding is that Apple is a 'for profit' corporation so they would obviously make decisions that they feel is correct. If they are wrong the market will sort it out, no one will buy their products and they will adjust accordingly.

This is a valid point. Most people only use a handful of apps daily and keep tons of junk on their machines for posterity's sake. A little housekeeping makes a big difference. Some people like to store tons of media on their machines, this poses a different problem and for those people there is the 128GB model.

Actually, it's NOT because there's a market for it but because it makes the 128GB more appealing. This is why Apple continues to keep the base storage capacity of other iPads at 16GB... it allows them to keep a low advertised price while making the "effective" price for many $100-$200 higher.
