Battlestar Galactica 2003, 2005-2009
This ain't your childhood Galactica:

No it is is not. See above:

Whoa whoa whoa you mean to tell me Starbuck is a chick? Tigh is a white guy? Cylons look like...gulp...humans?!? Burn it! Burn it all down!

Just kidding, being a die-hard original BSG fan I swore off the modern series until a couple of years ago. Watched the first episode and binge watched the rest. I even sought out all the spin-offs. This thread is making me want to rewatch them!

She may be number 6, but she's number 1 in my book.

This may turn out to be the “iPhone” of Apple’s foray into television production and distribution.

Or it could be the “Ping”.

Even if it’s well done, it may only appeal to a select group of people. As evidenced by the fact that the reboot of BSG is something that many in the general public remain unaware of.

Apple wants to be Disney, meanwhile Disney just bought Fox.

"explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended,"

Hopefully its realistic, focused on exploration and discovery and cooperation, not dark pessimistic and militaristic where all the people are as awful as they can be and try to solve everything with a gun, like the fate of every other sci-fi series circling the drain.

Its sad Apple has dug themselves into a social justice corner, basically eliminating their own potential for great content. Unfortunately they are now only allowed to produce content that doesn't offend the echo chambers.

Netflix will continue to produce polarizing content while Apple does Carpool Karaoke.

Apple should just stay in the product and software production market. Stay out of the content creation business. The crap they have created, if anything, has ruined a franchise (like carpool karaoke). I don't have confidence that they are going to be able to produce good content that is engaging.

I love battlestar but don't have hopes for something new. I would rather see them partnering with Netflix studio and announce a collaboration with Netflix studios, Apple and this guy. My confidence level would go way up.
BTW I really gave the Apple carpool karaoke a try but somehow they ruined it.
Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps were rudimentary 'get your feet wet' baby steps.

With the seasoned talents of Van Amburg and Erlicht now on board, and the backing of Apple's huge war chest, with the initial $1Billion set aside, things are likely to improve dramatically in the near future.

But to produce and to continue offering blockbuster content takes time and commitment, and will take a lot more than that initial $1Billion, so resource-wise, Apple is definitely in a position to do this right as long as their resolve to see this thru remains. It would be a shame if they threw in the towel after a few lacklustre years.

Don’t you dare to touch my Netflix, space wars have been started over less!

It’s an American show, their normal is not your normal. One man’s dystopian nightmare is another man’s best country on earth. Think about what you’re asking them to do, to be realistic?

This is the first time that there has been a glimmer of hope in the whole content creation wing of Apple. If they can pull in a solid, must-see show, it will change everything. Of course, they need more content, but it will jumpstart the money flow.

I, for one, would love to be able to have a single location to view my video content and stream music instead of amazon, Netflix, Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music. I have dabbled with all of them. It will be a long time before Apple could get all these things up,running, and of any good quality...but each service has goods and bads. If Apple did this well enough, I could consider dropping all the rest.

As long as other companies are still around to compete, and push Apple, this could be great for everyone.

Such utter nonsense. Why don’t you wait and see what they actually do.

Every sane person knows software division has nothing to do with tv shows. We also know they have plenty of resources. Apple’s software is a poorly designed mess not out of lack for such things, but because all those resources are replete with morons.

Excellent.

Now maybe they can spend even MORE time not fixing their buggy software before wide release.

Seriously, quit while you're ahead with the knockoff carpool karaoke no one already watches.

They have software engineers working on the acquisitions for TV? I'm surprised by that, but you sound like you know what you're talking about.

Oh, and we watch Carpool Karaoke - I suppose the idea that other people might watch stuff you don't like must be too difficult for you to get your head around? :p

So far Apple's target market for shows is 15-18 year old teenage girls and 45-55 year old single men.

So far your posts in this thread are aimed at making the most sweeping of generalisations about people. :p

Gee, lemmee guess ....
A woman will be the lead tech ....
A woman will be the best pilot ....
A woman will be the commanding officer ....
A woman will be President of both countries ....

Just look at the picture accompanying this artice, ffs ....

Golly, I hope expressing my free will isn't called "hate speech" ....

Yeah, because men are never cast in lead roles in anything ever.

Yeah, that promo picture isn't sexist at all. I don't have a problem with it but how times quickly change.

It all started out quite rationally and then somehow in the end just lept to an over generalized conjecture presented as some sort of fact.

Seems to a degree represent the type of characters that are in the story.

I love Spielberg, Moore, etc. But what I don't get is... why does Apple which is not able to deliver one polished product in all of 2017 see the need to diversify their portfolio even more and risking even more problems in the future?

What? iPhone X is polished. iPhone and 8 and 8 Plus are solid. The AirPods, from late 2016, continue to get rave reviews.

Their hardware is doing OK. (Laptop keyboards aside.) The software does appear to need some better QA or slower feature cycles.
