Galaxy demo units DO HAVE OLED displays. Is there anything that suggests the OLED displays on demo units are prone to burns but the ones that are sold are not? And of course is great indicator of quality, don't be dump! That's why they are there, so people can make a sens of what the heck they are paying for. A display technology that have screen burns at shop can also have screen burns at home, unless they use a different tech display for the ones you buy.

So yeah. they are still prone to burs, regardless if they are in the shop or in somebody's pocket.

What I'm saying is that a demo unit is always on , that is not normal operating behaviour for a mobile phone.

They have probably found a way past the problems with OLED, Apple usually does this with a technology which is why they are not usually the first to do something, they usually wait until the technology matures and work on solving problems.

Apple has nothing to do with these screens. It's all innovation and tech from Samsung.

Hip Hip Hooray, thats a good Apple!

Loving the fact Apple is trying to get more units out for launch of the anniversary edition! I'll be getting one for sure. I don't like the concept MR is using in its current OLED stories, though. UGLY!

When the original iPhone was introduced at Macworld Expo January 9th 2007, and the rumours from 2 days ago say the iPhone 8 may not ship until November, how on earth can it be an anniversary iPhone? If it indeed ships in November (I doubt it) it will be 3/4 closer to an 11 year iPhone. Anniversaries mean nothing to Apple.

Curved glass contribute almost nothing to the experience. Its just something new and different. How about a screen that does not have touch desease?

And what I am saying that regardless of how it is used, the display is still prone to burns. How you use the phone is totally irrelevant and I don't think there is any right or wrong way. Some people could use the phone as a side bed clock when sleeping. I am not saying it will happen but the issue with burning doesn't seem to have been resolved, at least not till last year.

Nice for sure, but necessary on such a small screen? Worth it at such a high price? And just how fragile will these things be?

There seem to be no rumors about the 7s/7s+. Everyone expects them to be a spec bump only?

I'm starting to wonder if they'll exist like the Series 1 Apple Watches. iPhone 8 will be the new iPhone, and the 7S will replace the 7 completely but have the latest processor so it can still run the AR platform.

What AR platform?

I have seen a Galaxy 7 edge in the Carphone warehouse (demo) full of ghostly burns on it. So it kind of still is, unless it have vastly improved from last year.
No duh, it's a demo unit constantly replaying the same images on the screen, for months at end. Such things don't/rarely happens a to a modern SAMOLED(Samsung) display. Samsung is selling Apple OLED screens, not the ones you would find in a current Samsung flagship.

Seems that oled is subject to burn in?

Did you read the post you quoted, or just skim through it looking for points of contention?

It seems some OLEDs are subject to burn in. That's not the same as OLED is subject to burn in. I can say this with confidence, as I own an LG OLED, and it isn't subject to burn in. Or even image retention. I should know all about image retention, as I've owned a few very good plasma sets which did suffer.

I have absolutely no doubt that some OLED panels, particularly early ones, do suffer from at least some IR. That does not mean they all do, and it certainly doesn't mean that the iPhone will. It might, but we won't know until it's in the hands of consumers.

Are you saying Samsung is selling Apple better screens than those that they use themselves? Because according to:

http://bgr.com/2017/04/04/galaxy-s8-vs-iphone-8-oled-display-review/

the Samsung S8 ("current Samsung flagship", your words) has the best screen ever.

They type of OLED scream Samsung uses in there phones, are different from anybody else's. Samsung uses SAMOLED displays, the best you can get. They make the best you can get in the industry right now. And are the only ones producing a curved SAMOLED display at any kind of reasonable yield. What Samsung is selling Apple is not, what they have in their current phones(S8). Or what other companies may use. What Samsung uses and sells are two different things.

No Samsung is selling Apple just that OLED screens, not what they use in their phones(SAMOLED).

I'm confused. I keep seeing iPhone 8 assuming we are talking about it's release in 2018.

Isn't the next release the iPhone 7S? Or did I miss something.

Oh, I think I get it, but if for instance (and we don't know) the iPhone 8 used a curved edge would that require a SAMOLED display?

So either oled is subject to burn in or not and how do you if yours is or isn't? Whatever Samsung is using on the galaxy s7 is subject to burn in. It's been reported LG oled tvs are subject to burn in. Http://fudzilla.com/news/42511-oled-suffers-from-burn-in-effect

This is one of the funniest frenemy relationships in tech right now. I bet it just burns Apple every time they realize they still need Samsung to make enough parts for their iPhone to keep up with the demand. In the meantime Apple is passive aggressive suing Samsung as much as they can, and just enough to not piss off Samsung and have them sever ties completely with Apple . Of course the way things have been going for Samsung lately they really can't afford to piss off Apple right now either and lose that business. This catch-22 dance between them is simply amazing.

Note how this conflict applies to "us" consumers too. How often have you read consumer proclamations of "I'll never buy anything made by Samsung again" only to be evolved into "I mean Samsung-branded products" so "we" can reconcile buying an Apple product with key components made by Samsung. In fact, most of the time, it's pretty hard to buy almost anything from Apple that doesn't have something made by Samsung in it. So "we' hate all things from Samsung except the things Apple chooses to weave into Apple products.

Or worse: more than a few times, we've had products from Apple where Apple split the component orders between Samsung and a Samsung competitor(s). Issues arise (yellowing screens for example) and then individuals are returning the product and "hoping I get the Samsung one this time."

It appears that both we consumers and Apple knows where our bread is buttered yet hate on them anyway... but gobble up select slices of that bread if Apple chooses to spread their butter for us.

To quote the great modern philosophers (Sonny & Cher): The beat goes on. ;)

Since this is rumor "we", unless you're an insider don't know exactly the part number Apple is alleged to be buying.

Or hoping one gets the TMSC chip. o_O

And what does that have to do with anything? All I am saying is that it is still prone to burns and the potential to get burned is still there. You gonna coach people how to use it and not letting it on for hours on some particular app while is charging? I don't see LCD display units that are playing demo for months and moths having the same issue, do you? I would still buy OLED because they look beautiful, since I don't keep my phone for more then 2 years, max 3 but if the issue is still there, it is still there.

This means that about 30% of iPhone devices shipped in 2017 will come with curved OLED panels

No, this does not mean that, as Samsung is not the world's only OLED supplier.

But still only Samsung have 6th gen OLED factory. LGD is still in test running. Other providers are 4th gen yet.

I just got an iPhone 7 Plus. What I like about it is that it is kind of a third generation of the iPhone 6. The design has been refined and problems have been corrected. With iPhone Edition this year, I consider it to be a generation 1 design that will in my opinion need refinements. No doubt iPhone Edition is going to be amazing, but I'll wait a few iterations :D

Samsung never sells its latest amoled screen technology to other vendors......and since Apple is all about profit.... I'm sure they purchased a older generation of amoled curved technology but will present it to fanboys as something brand new and innovative with true tone.
