Yea SAMOLED is just a type of OLED technology/display. So Samsung would just make Apple a OLED curved screen.Oh, I think I get it, but if for instance (and we don't know) the iPhone 8 used a curved edge would that require a SAMOLED display?

What a load of hyperbole. Nobody could possibly know the alleged part number in this rumored story.Samsung never sells its latest amoled screen technology to other vendors......and since Apple is all about profit.... I'm sure they purchased a older generation of amoled curved technology but will present it to fanboys as something brand new and innovative with true tone.

They do have the opportunity to order custom changes to specs within Samsung's ability. Hopefully theyre going to pay for the best that can be produced (within reason).
Oh ok, i just wondered if Apple has the ability to tweak the displays themselves, they usually have great displays on their devices (the iPhone, iPad and iMac all have great displays) and i wondered whether that is down to something Apple does or if it's just where they get the displays from.
Sounds like you have actually never had you hands on a curved screen. I'm not a huge fan but certainly not as bad as you are making them out to be.If its a curved screen like the one on the Galaxy S8 then you can keep it. Don't want a curved screen that wastes space, distorts pictures and makes it hard to do anything at the corners on! WTF already, stop with all these pointless curved screens!!!

92 million ordered. 100,000 available at launch.
There will have been negotiations, and Samsung will have said something like "We can sell this cheap and nasty display for $X, there is this one in reasonable quality for $Y, we can sell you the same that we use in the S8 for $Z, we can add improvement A for $A, improvement B for $B, and improvement C for $C. But if you want 92 million, then we can only do this, this and that in those numbers. You choose". That's the starting point, then Apple will ask for something better at a lower price, and in the end they agree to something.
So Apple won't do any tweaking themselves, but they surely will ask Samsung to do some tweaking for them.
But let's say some displays when manufactured come with uneven colours, and some don't. Then Samsung will offer "you can take all the displays as they come for $X, or you take only the better ones for $Y, and we'll sell the rest to some company that is willing to pay $Z even if the colours are not that even". A lot of "quality" is just testing and rejecting those that are low quality.
And what I am saying that regardless of how it is used, the display is still prone to burns. How you use the phone is totally irrelevant and I don't think there is any right or wrong way. Some people could use the phone as a side bed clock when sleeping. I am not saying it will happen but the issue with burning doesn't seem to have been resolved, at least not till last year.
So either oled is subject to burn in or not and how do you if yours is or isn't? Whatever Samsung is using on the galaxy s7 is subject to burn in. It's been reported LG oled tvs are subject to burn in. Http://fudzilla.com/news/42511-oled-suffers-from-burn-in-effect
You can use a screwdriver as a hammer.... a phone display is not designed to be always stay on.
Nothing wrong with explaining your point of view based on your anecdotal experience. Have a good day also.I've explained my point of view quite clearly. I've also shared my actual experiences. If you choose to disagree then that's fine. Have a good day![]()
Name calling and sweeping generalizations do not an argument make.It has been proven time and time again that when Samsung supplies amoled screens...they never give the other company the greatest. It does not matter if I don't have a part number. This happens every year with other phone vendors too. Most likely Apple may have purchased the curved screen technology that was in the s6 edge which would be far cheaper and increase overall profits. Apple also has not had a quadHD screen ever and they can just use the s6 edge screen technology and make the fanboys glow with amazement that they finally have quadHD and a amoled curved screen instead of the 1080p LCD screen the fanboys are accustomed to.
However, according to the MR article, Samsung will be "its sole OLED supplier for the upcoming phone".This means that about 30% of iPhone devices shipped in 2017 will come with curved OLED panels
No, this does not mean that, as Samsung is not the world's only OLED supplier.
It is more then just a phone. It is a pocked computer and there are millions of apps designed to be used on all different ways, some of them designed to be ON for quite a long time. In an ideal world there should be absolutely no limit as to how you use your phones display. You kind of remind me SJ with "you are holding it wrong" Screen burn is an OLED issue mainly but not exclusively and it extends far more then you think. Trying to pretend that it does not exist does not help.
I'm saying burn in has been an issue for decades. If u look after your gear, you mitigate it.
It's a mobile phone......that is it's critical function.
Look , once apple goes OLED u will be praising them big time. Enjoy ur Samsung bashing
Not anecdotal but a fact. Samsung's OLEDs are used all over the Android ecosystem and not a single one measures up to the quality of the displays they use on their own phones. And in fact even the Google Pixel display (which is a Samsung panel) isn't anywhere close to the S7 Edge display(proven by Anandtech). So if Apple does this they will have set a precedent with Samsung. But I doubt it because just as how CPUs are Apple's forte in smartphones, when it comes to displays its Samsung and they are unlikely to sell their secret sauce to their competitionNothing wrong with explaining your point of view based on your anecdotal experience. Have a good day also.

Other than that there is nothing to substantiate your point of view.(which is expected because it's a rumored story)
Would be funny if its the same quality panel as on the S6 Edge. I have been enjoying the iPhone 8 display for years thenSamsung never sells its latest amoled screen technology to other vendors......and since Apple is all about profit.... I'm sure they purchased a older generation of amoled curved technology but will present it to fanboys as something brand new and innovative with true tone.

It could be anything, given it's a rumor.Would be funny if its the same quality panel as on the S6 Edge. I have been enjoying the iPhone 8 display for years then
Its already all over the Internet. Try finding a phone with the S7 Edge panel. Read the display analysis of any phone which uses a Samsung panel. No smartphone on Android has the same panel as that of the S7. Even Google failed to get that same displayProve it.

What AR platform?
The internet(or google hits for that matter) isnt proof of anything. You can't prove your statement, which means it's hyperbole. Its already all over the Internet. There is no proof of the part number of what allegedly Samsung is supplying Apple for the alleged rumored iPhone 8.Not google hits. Detailed analysis by display experts have shown the S7 panel is not being used on any Android phone. Read Anandtech's review of the Pixel. It's using a Samsung panel but the reviewer states it's not close to the panel of the S7 as proven scientifically
It's a rumour thread posted on a rumour site which mentions they will be the sole supplier.
Other rumours posted here have also confidently predicted Samsung will be the only supplier of OLED panels.

As much as LCD is good enough on my 7 plus I badly want OLED..one think i do miss from going from a my S7 edgeYou can use a screwdriver as a hammer.... a phone display is not designed to be always stay on. Burn in on displays has been around for a very long time , and people who left thier displays on twenty four hours a day , have no right to complain about burn in... please this is not an OLED issue .... never heard of plasma displays ? Mine is going great...I'm no stupid enough to leave it running for extended period of time still...... common sense.
How you use you phone is very relevant, it's designed to be used as a phone, if you bought one to use as a side bed clock , don't complain that you are experiencing issues, it's not what it was designed for.
Nothing wrong with OLED, as soon as apple uses it in the next iPhone you will be telling how great it is.
No its not, I've a 18 month old oled galaxy device, the screen is perfect. No over saturation, no burn in, no dead pixels. Just as it came out the box...Screen burn still concerns me. I work with 2nd hand phones and OLED screen burn is a huge issue, still.
So a phone that has the screen on 8hrs a day minimum constantly is the same as one that turned on and off periodically. Mmm. Talk about chalk and cheese.... 2 completely different useage scenarios...I have seen a Galaxy 7 edge in the Carphone warehouse (demo) full of ghostly burns on it. So it kind of still is, unless it have vastly improved from last year.
If you held a hairdryer on your skin for 8 hrs solid, would that be the same effect than if you turned it on a for a few seconds at a time then turned it away!!! The skin is always prone to burning, but only with constant exposure. Your pathetic propaganda agenda is getting tiresome. These displays are the best in the world. Nit pick all you want, doesn't change a thing. And what I am saying that regardless of how it is used, the display is still prone to burns. So a lg tv that could be on for 15 hrs solid is comparable to a Samsung phone that is on for potentially minutes at a time.. once again.. these petty arguments are stale. Apple has decided that the best screen maker in the world is making their screens next. If they can deal with it, why can't you?Seems that oled is subject to burn in.In addition there is article by pcworld about people returning their lg tv due to burn in. I can dig it up if you want to see it.
