Selling expensive phones in non-standard sizes seems to be a niche business, whether the size is bigger or smaller than the usual. I really wish that Apple would try iPhone SE in a 12/13 mini size in the coming years. In addition to people like me who prefer their portability, this would increase the share of Apple phones bought for kids as the first phone. Currently cheap Androids dominate this market, and it's always a hassle to switch systems later on.

Inflation made Apple’s prices surpass the sweet point. Inflation makes newer models expensive than the just-as-good model it replaces. It seems that applying the MacRumors buyers guide inversely makes more sense these days. Just buy the previous model at the lowest price. “Don’t buy” becomes “Buy now”.
The inflation excuse made international Apple prices into ridiculously way beyond their intended price segments. The regular non Pro iPhone has been already around $1000 in many markets. Apple’s insistent in maintaining their margins have pushed those international prices into the stratosphere.

In Singapore, the regular iPhone 14 is priced at almost $920, while the 14 Plus is at $1020. The original draw of the 14 Plus, which was a large iPhone for less than $1000 no longer applies. It’s just another expensive iPhone that uses last year’s hardware.

I don't work for Apple Sales or Marketing, so I don't know why they have cut orders. It might be that they expected more sales, or it might be that they ramped it up early to prevent people from having to wait for orders in case they didn't correctly anticipate higher-than-expected sales.

People will complain if they have to wait too long, and they complain if Apple were ahead of the curve and had to cut production. 🤷‍♂️

I am not an expert on these things.

The problem isn't the size but the price. If Apple had priced the iPhone 14 at $699 instead of $799 and the 14 Plus instead of $899 then the plus would have sold really well. Also using the same chipset as the iPhone 13 and lack of other new big features is another reason why the 14s are not selling well.

I agree! The price of the iPhone is the problem not the size. I wanted to buy the pro max but once the prices in europe got revealed i ended up buying the iPhone 14 plus instead, and even though i could afford the pro max it just didn’t seem right to pay that much. The good thing is that the iPhone 14 plus turned out to be a very good phone for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

The mini might not have sold as well as expected, but it was a smaller size and filled a niche.
The plus makes the entry model only more expensive and it competes with the standard pro. So if you're in the market for a new iPhone right now, you have to consider that the plus doesn't have anything better than the previous generation other than it being bigger. But the standard size pro has a better screen, better processor, the new island, etc., etc. I think that most prospective buyers choose the standard pro over the plus.

I think that with rising prices the plus has gone past an acceptable price point for many customers.

Interesting article I just traded in my iPhone SE 2 for the new iPhone 14 and I like the phone nice size lots of features which i probably will use here and there lol but overall I think the 14 is pretty good the size is good for me but the + is just to big for me and not worth the price 🤨

This was an obvious failure. The 13 Pro Max is a smarter buy over it. If you’re not getting the 14 Pro or Pro Max, there’s no reason to get the 14 regular or plus over the 13 lineup.
This is only because it's overpriced. If it were cheaper, the fact that's it's lighter would be a selling point for someone who isn't bothered about having the latest and greatest camera.

A $999 iPhone 14 Pro costs $1560 in India. WTF is this Apple? Apple can go suck on a sugarcane and I still won't care.

I think it's still the phone people will buy throughout the next 10-11 months but it's not the one they rush out to get right at release. Pro models most popular from day 1 with enthusiastic buyers then standard models steady sales from avg users over the course of the year.

It’s not the product that’s lacking demand due to what it offers in regards to specification, it’s the £949 price tag. The target market for the standard iPhones simply don’t want to pay close to £1k for a phone and especially during an economic downturn. It has nothing to do with a phone using last years chip or being too big and everything to do with a price sensitive market.
To be honest I’ve been surprised at how many non tech people I know, family/friends/colleagues, have mentioned that the iPhone 14 sucks because it uses “an old chip”, anecdotal but it’s been mentioned several times to me in person so I do think it’s had a bit of an effect.

Obviously a15>a16 isn’t a big difference but I don’t think that’s the point, the point is more than even in weak s years the MINIMUM we can expect is a new processor for a bit of long term future proofing/ios. No one upgrades for it but we expect it as a bare minimum. When apple can’t even upgrade the processor on top of the other lack of upgrades then you know it’s bad.

Then add the price rise on top of last years chip and it’s just a bad deal overall. A15 with a big price cut would be OK.

It hasn’t happened in my circles and I doubt the non tech people that are airing that complaint have any idea what the differences between those chips is. Judging by how long iPhones last, I don’t think it’s going to make any difference to longevity. The A15 is still a current chip and is still being manufactured in 2022, so the notion it’s ‘old’ is completely false.
