Apple Slashes iPhone 14 Plus Orders With Supply Chain Makers

I'm glad this is happening. They shouldn't get away with that lazy and greedy approach. Especially yesterday's iPad announcements were a slap in the face for every customer. It became crystal clear that they aren't making the best possible products for consumers anymore but rather products for the sole purpose of upselling and profit maximization.
If you actually read the article you’d know that Apple expects to still sell the same amount of iPhones which means they’ll sell more Pro phones instead of the Plus; which means more cash.

Tim Cook right now: 🤑

The negative headline is to get clicks. It doesn’t represent what’s going on. The last paragraph reveals the truth. They are expected to sell the same total iphone 14 series after production ratio adjustments.

This means what is presented as a negative is a huge positive. It means Apple’s target markets aren’t feeling the too broke to buy. They just prefer to buy the iPhone that is at least $400 more expensive. So each of the entry level phones they cut, they add one that brings in 40% more revenue.

I think Apple did misjudge the market. They leaned into the inflation story and made way more non pro models than they would normally. People buy what they want, regardless. They want the top of the line.

Yeah. I remember how Steve would go up and say how they tried to make the best possible products. I’ve never saw him making halfway products just to maximize profits. Anyway, it’s a good thing they make this things so we don’t have to spend our money every year :)

Apple believed the terrible economy lie. The focus on inflation and gas is short sighted. In the last year we have added more jobs than ever to the economy, so 10s of millions of Americans are making 100% more than they were a year ago and while inflation is up, wages are too though at a slower pace. What has not increased is cell phone service prices, in fact deals are improving and since most people aren’t paying cash for thier iphone They are choosing the pro incase the economy does crash and they have to keep their phone for a lot longer than usual.

Just hoping they don’t blame it on the plus size. I have some hopes from iPhone 15 Plus.
Good news: if Apple’s latest announce are any indication, you can basically buy your 15 Plus today already.

I mean, sure, Apple will find a way to gimp some minor details in iOS 17 on today’s models to distinguish them from the next generation - but it won’t meaningfully differ from the 14 Pro Max, will it?

Apple management should sit down and fix the whole product line up... Its a mess!

Air vs Pro vs Non-Pro vs whatever...

There should be two iPhones... iPhone and iPhone Plus (having the same "Pro" features)

And keep the previous model year iPhone as the cheaper alternative (like they do now)... with maybe new colors maybe

The SE stays as the even cheaper entry model.

iPhone 14 Plus in China is providing 20% discount in the some popular online-shops.
If Apple allows this for other market, it will save the iPhone 14+ but harm its own iPhone 14 pro max

Large phones make perfect sense for any Asian markets, in other parts of the world - so-so. As a mini user, I will not personally go any higher than 6.1”, provided there is nothing smaller. If Apple were not selling 13 mini and I needed a new iPhone now, I would rather get a 4.7” SE.

Why so?

The 14 and 14 Plus would struggle to even justify being a 13 S and a 13 S Plus back when Apple did that type of cycle.

From a short term money perspective it may have paid for Apple to keep all the new features on the more expensive 14 Pro so more buy that model, but from a brand image point of view it stinks and makes your product line up just look a mess. All the 14's at the very least should have moved to dynamic island to at least justify the model over a 13 / 13 Plus.

A company the size of Apple should be able to cater for a large range of customers needs from low cost to mini to Pro with every bleeding edge feature possible and still keep the product lineup well structured.

Apple needs somebody at board level who keeps an eye on brand and product consistency to point out the things everybody else seems to spot a mile away. Like the iPad mess this week, iPad 10th Gen bad unless it directly replaces the 9th Gen at price point. Now the whole 5th/6th/7th/8th/9th consistency in the iPad lineup has gone and it makes me mad.

Same , I intend to get a 13 mini in the next 10 months just incase no 15 mini appears. I would downgrade my phone to an inferior SE to get a smaller phone before having these stupidly large devices.

Some of us just want a phone that you won't notice in your pocket that can be used with one had with ease. Apple just seem to think everyone wants an iPad in their pocket.

Apple delayed the 14 Plus release.
Was it truly supply constraint issues or Apple decided to sell the more expensive 14 Pro Max since it generates more profit for it?
If the 14 Plus was released with the other 14 iPhone models on release date, many consumers may have bought the Plus over the Pro model due to the lower price and not many would've wanted all the features. The Plus' price is overpriced. Then again, lots of Apple products are overpriced.
But no one would ever know since it never happened so it's a mute point for discussion.

Since consumers didn't have a choice on release date, those wanting the larger sized iPhone only had the choice to buy the 14 Pro Max model at a higher price as the 13 Pro/Max models were removed.
Now Apple can blame poor sales on the Plus model to justify production cuts.
The 14 Plus model should've been the 13 Plus model instead.
Apple should've had the iPhone 13 and 13 Plus and the 14 Pro/Max models instead but got greedy and deceptive with selling the Non-pro models at higher prices.

Chinese consumers live far more digitally connected lifestyles. Only 20% transactions use cash or credit card, the remainder is all digital. Rest of the world, not so much. Take for example, livestream shopping. That’s a category China invented and is worth $500B this year vs. only $10B in the U.S.

In short, there is much higher screen time in China meaning demand for larger displays.

Still remain a disgruntled Mini fan here but....when one stretches out payments over 24 or 36 months (as many people do with these ridiculous phone contracts), it really isn't that much of a difference between the 14 Plus and the 14 Pro Max, so I would guess that's the reason for the slow sales on the former. If ten or fifteen bucks a month is going to torpedo your budget, you probably wouldn't be upgrading to one of these higher-end devices anyway.

This is a good point. Everybody here keeps looking at the MSRP, and complaining how they can’t believe people are buying these phones given how expensive they are. But they neglect to acknowledge that basically nobody is paying full retail price out the door — they’re getting a trade-in deal with their carrier that’s easily worth $600-1000 and then financing the remainder of the cost over 24-36 months.

So if your option is a “free” iPhone 13 after trade-in/promo, paying $4/mo for a 14 Plus, or just spend an extra $3/mo on top of that for a 14 Pro Max; most people likely reason that they’ll just spend $7/mo and get the good one.

I knew this thing would be a total flop the moment I saw it. The product line is too wide. Just make an iPhone, iPhone Max and a budget iPhone that's the same size as the standard phone.

This year's launch showed there's really no need to make a regular iPhone and a "Pro" model. The people that are buying the Pro are the early adopters that would have bought a new phone anyway.

The whole product lineup and marketing scheme is a mess.

2022 is definitely the downfall of apple

That's Junior Varsity bait, fella. Up your game, this is Mac Rumors, not Fark....
