It really depends on what you use it for. Right now my family already uses drop box to back up our photos (we have a six mint old so we taken hundreds of photos a month of just him). For is, iCloud drive would make a ton of sense because it's an easier solution for photo sharing and the bandwidth is already in use.

On a 10gb plan shared by three people we have yet to even hit 5gb and we generally hover between 3-4.

Of course it's how you use it. But even in your case, you're likely paying a LOT for that 10GB plan and that won't be a typical plan for the average user. Even paying the Apple on-board storage premium for getting more on-board storage than the 16GB he was advocating would probably save money for most. Sync instead of stream and have all that media you want to play when away from wifi. iCloud would still be accessible if you wanted something you didn't sync but that would be a fall-back option instead of a primary.

Then, you might get a cheaper data plan because you'll use less cellular data and end up saving more money- perhaps much more money- than paying for data and buying a small (on board) memory iDevice. To go from 16GB on board to 64GB or 128GB is about $100 times 2 or 3 at Apple prices. $300/<monthly savings by dropping to a smaller data plan> should yield a relatively small number of months before the "sync more" option makes more sense (financially). Would this work for everyone? No, there's always the guy who's company or parents is paying for their plan but where someone has to pay for their own plan and aren't getting a unique deal not available to the masses, I would (very) generally suggest that "sync more" rather than "stream everything from the cloud" will prove to be better-to-much-better option for almost anyone who cares about not streaming more and more cash from their wallets.

Whaterver they do, they should release both at the same time! So as a consumer I can choose which one I want to buy, instead of waiting for this magical 5.5 iPhone.

agreed. I rather wait a few extra months and I know its coming rather then just going on the rumors.

Arrrgh... I'm betting they won't offer a gold model, but my wife will be thrilled to get my gold when I get my 4.7.

This gets the front page, while a story about Apple changing its flagship programming language for the first time in a couple decades gets stuck in the iOS Blog.

FWIW, that was actually an error on our part. We posted everything to the blogs during the keynote so that the live blog stayed at the top, and then moved the bigger stories to the front page after the event was over.

On the SDK/Swift article, we mistakenly forgot to uncheck the "iOS Blog" box when we checked the "Front Page" box, and so it stayed on the blog even though when you visited the article directly it had the layout of a front page article. I've fixed the issue, and it now appears on the front page where it belongs.

5.5" phone? Might as well put an iPad up to your face. /s

What's it going to take to make people realize that holding a large iPhone (or any enormous smartphone) is pretty much a non-existent use case for the people who want them.
For the rare phone call they'll use Bluetooth, earbuds or speaker.
The person who wants this wants full cellular features on a bigger device.
I'm not one of them, but there a plenty of people for whom this will be their only computing device.
The 'holding it up to your face' criticism is silly, folks.

It's either going to be a 5.5" iPhone 6, or a Samsung Note 4 (with S5 features). . . . . maybe, MAYBE the S5.

Come on Apple. I am very glad that you're taking pages out of the book of Google and Windows 8 not take a page from Samsung, and bring me back to the iPhone camp with a 5.5" iPhone.

I'm sure AT&T, Verizon, etc would LOVE more people thinking like you.

Why, because of data usage? I'm on an AT&T Mobile Share Value family data plan. My wife and I share 10GB/month for less money than we were paying on our old grandfathered unlimited plans. We stream music, YouTube as anyone else would and never approach the 10GB cap.

I also have the S5 - And it most certainly can not charge to 100% in an hour and battery life is as crappy as on my iPhone 5S - But it's okay. It's a mean machine.

My 1520 stays charged for days though...

I didn't say an hour, I said a little over an hour. Though typically I am charging from 10-15% and not fully discharged, so that will shrink the time down.

And you need to get your S5 looked at. I'm at 17hrs 22min since last charge with 6.5hrs of screen time. Mind you this is after watching the WWDC keynote and the latest episode of "game of thrones", in additional to all the daily use.

however, I wouldn't jump to 5.5". That's too big for pockets, one hand, etc.

Please let me know how big/small my hands and pockets are.

Seriously, I think people need to stop projecting themselves onto the entirety of the Apple ecosystem.

How dare you make the iPhone look bad!

I agree though, this and the waterproofing, and the screen, and the features, and the design are what make me want the S5 . . . . or the Note 4 that borrows heavily from it.

A 5.5" iPhone 6 may pull me away from it though . . . . depending.

This might be the first iPhone that I don't try and preorder/buy one day one. I think I need to see them in person to see how they feel in my own hand. As long as they're similarly spec'd except for screen size (as seen in iPad Air vs iPad Mini Retina), I don't know which I'll lean toward.

Good luck getting your phone by February with that strategy. New design + loaded iOS enhancements means you won't be able to stroll into an Apple Store and buy one for many months.

I'll be setting my alarm for 3AM EST yet again.;)

Best way to decide what size you want is to go into an MSFT store and play w/ the Lumias. They have everything from 4" to 6" right there next to each other.

Yeah, but who wants to be spotted in there? :p

Hang on. Apparently a solution has been found. Lines are forming outside:

I see the normal "I don't want a bigger phone so therefor NOONE should have one" people are out.

Or 7.9 inches. ;)

Sarcasm noted! But I am still surprised to see how much smaller a 5.5 inch screen size is compared to the iPad mini.

Sigh, you're right. I am sure when the time comes I'll probably just go for it. :D I am leaning toward the 4.7", but we'll see. Are you all decided?

Here's hoping we are able to preorder for release day delivery like the iPhone 5. No preorders for the 5S last year was a bummer.

Something about the 5.5" iPhone 6 rumors I just can't buy into. Maybe just the fact that there seems to be more "hard" evidence of a 4.7" phone right now and not constant mumbles of "it being delayed."

Whatever it is I'd expect Apple to announce both at the same time and if they aren't on sale at the same time I'd expect it to be closely afterwards. I don't see Apple announcing it and then waiting until almost December or even 2015 to release it. I would just think if Apple was releasing this they would absolutely want it to be ready to go for major production before the Holidays.

So with that said when the iPhone event comes up I will just watch it not expecting to see a 5.5" phone and if they do so happen to unveil one I'll just majorly surprised.

I'll buy into a 4.7".
I will not buy into a 5.5" iPhone, mostly because it breaks the iPhone paradigm of being able to use one hand.

Also it doesn't make sense when you look at the Apple product line.
One professional desktop (MacPro)
Two sizes of all-in-one (iMac)
One small desktop (Mac Mini)
Two versions of Macbook Air
Two sizes of Macboo Pro

So they will be making 5 different phone versions?
iPhone 4, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 (4.7 and 5.5)?
I think it's just wishful thinking by some idiot analyst.
I see them dumping the 5c since it's a poor seller and.

They will keep the iPhone 4 for emerging markets like they do now.
They might keep the 5c (doubtful) to offer a free phone.
Then they will have the 5s and the iPhone 6 (4.7).

Apple over the years has sought to minimize the number of products they manufacture within a category.
My predictions.

I'm amazed at how much smaller my 4s is .

I can sort of understand. After all, if the phone is actually too big it is effectively the end of the product line for them (unless they release a smaller one alongside it).

Of course, the world does revolve around them and their tiny little hands after all. /s

Thanks for that comparison. It's just about right for me, a space right between the 5s and the iPad mini. Saves me the trouble have having to get both just to do the same thing on a bigger screen.

And 5.5" for me . . . . . I really do have my fingers crossed for that.

I have a feeling Apple will give us a normal, small 4" iPhone 6 or our choice between a tiny 4" screen, an average 4.7" screen, and the phablet 5.5" screen that heavy users desire.

I find it interesting that iOS8 is not compatible with the iPhone 4 though. I guess that upgrade ability isn't a concern for emerging markets? Still, seems strange to continue selling the phone though.
