They really should have hired Benioff and Weiss instead of Netflix...

...obviously I'm kidding...(or maybe not?!)

This streaming service from Apple seems like a bit too late, and with too many bad content at the start. They however have a constant and increasing flow of earned money from their services, so theoretically they could improve upon that as time goes by.

But their very conservative approach to story telling is gonna bore a lot of people, therefore I still see more subscribing to Netflix or Disney (especially for the announced price).

If Netflix is going to continue to increase prices though, I don't see a future for them, if they cannot bring very good content constantly and that will be a real test for them (content is expensive after all).

I’m just happy that i sold all my stocks. I would do this now if I haven’t already.

What other content will they have? Seems like another service I sign up for to watch the new show then cancel until the next show starts.
According to the article, Apple may eschew the Netflix-style, full season binge-friendly scheduling, instead releasing three episodes at once, followed by weekly installments.

These comments will be funny to read next year :)

It's funny that people in here think they know better than Apple and all the professional movie and tv directors and Everyone else what they should do :D

Why don't we just wait and see how it goes? Is it really that hard?

Seriously we haven't even seen one episode of any of the shows and yet is worst ever and flop and all the typical words which we have seen countless times with everything related to Apple and let's look where they are now.

I can't wait to pirate all these shows.

I pay for Netflix, Prime, and Hulu no ads, any other services beyond them either don't warrant my attention, or deserve to get pirated.
You really justify stealing things due to your inability to afford them? Yikes.

Does it work the same way at the grocery store? Once your wallet’s empty, everything else you want “deserves” to be stolen?

Couldn’t agree more. 8 pages of negative comments. I’m sure the same members will not be so quick to say they were wrong once they start enjoying the shows when the service actually begins. As usual members here slate everything before they have a chance to actually experience it themselves. I’ll look forward to seeing, “I love See and The Morning Show” comments from these users so they can be reminded of their negativity come November.

So, I always thought the principle of a subscription is to receive content on a regular basis, meaning continuously.
With Apple offering only 5 shows, how does that model work (with that in mind the quality of the show doesn't even matter)?
If they would have just put it on iTunes as a one-off payment for each single show, fair enough. This model just seems to be the wrong approach. It's like offering Apple Music with just 5 albums.

I can't wrap my mind around it...

Like Apple Music, lets say that they will have 60 million subscribers right after the launch.. so it means $600 million per month, meaning in 10 months Apple will have $6 billion.

Do consider that there are a lot of Apple fans out there... millions of them :) however bad or not interesting the movies are a lot of Apple fans out there will no doubt subscribe to it :) like the Apple Card a lot of people are so hyped about it :)
and that my friend is what is Apple milking...

None of the descriptions I’ve read for these seem appealing.

Apple, get David Kelley and James Spader to do an Alan Shore spinoff of Boston Legal!

I’m going to wait and look at it for a month or so and judge Apple, the service and it’s content, based on what I get. That’s what everyone should do. You can’t do that right now, based on what we know right now.

I always knew Apple had their heads in the clouds. To otherwise pass the "production" of not as much as Netflix is offering to pay for content, as "generous payments" ... makes it sounds we're getting something special here.

God almighty. I know people on welfare who deserve a better life, and yet, they are more honest and trustworthy than what you show us here.

The difference between music and TV subscriptions is that with music, you get it all, everything, all of the time. With TV, you get a tiny slice of what is there.

I guarantee Apple fans will subscribe, but intermittently. If they release their 5 exclusives on launch, millions of Apple fans will binge in the free trial.....or wait until they can.

The iPhone will fail.
The iPad will fail.
The Apple Watch will fail.
The AirPods will fail.
Apple Music will fail.
Everything Apple does is gonna fail!!!!

Ping can't possibly fail with 160 million accounts available.
$10k Apple Watches will be family heirlooms.
Apple News+ won't fail.
The HomePod won't fail.
AirPower will be released soon.
Apple Maps coming to your city in 2053.

$10 a month for 5 shows is a very hard pill to swallow.

I can't see anyone signing up? And if they offer a free trial, many will sign up, rinse through it and cancel.

Also if this is restricted to a tiny subsect of streaming devices, phones and consoles then I just don't understand how this is a good idea?

In order to truly take on Netflix, Disney, Amazon, Hulu etc you need to be on every device.

Just not sure I get it. This is a pure hope-for-profit play in an area way outside AAPL's wheelhouse in an attempt to continue to add shareholder value when your main business has truly flattened out.

The same was said for the iPod, the iTunes Music Store, iTunes movie and TV show rental, the Apple Store, the iPhone, the App Store (online software retailing?), etc., and many other things. That is not to say this is a guaranteed hit, it is also not a guaranteed failure.

What great hardware/software could have come out of a $6bn investment there?

Apple is producing as much hardware and software as it thinks it can, so I would guess not much would have come out of adding $6 Billion to R&D there. Even with this spending, Apple does not lack capital to do anything it wants to do.

And why spend his money on something that will be forgotten in 10 years? Great hardware and software can be revolutionary and life-changing, but television shows always die and fade over time.

This has to be the funniest statement I have read in this thread. What hardware that is 10 years old is still being produced? Hardware and Software have a very limited shelf life. Great content lives much longer. Shows like Friends, Star Trek (all versions) and The Office will be bringing in money for decades after people will have long since forgotten every computer and gadget that was released the same years they were.

I have no idea whether any of the shows or movies that Apple is producing will be successful, but your argument against if is completely wrong.

It’s really to be expected, happens literally every time Apple launches a new product or service. After all, really... what would forum posters in general—and the Apple-hate crowd in particular—know about the TV/movie industry, the music business, the payments and credit card industry, or even gaming?

Those that spew auto-hate here are so blinded by their anti-Apple rage that they can hardly see straight, let alone see into the future. These naysaying non-visionaries tend to be very selfish and egocentric, with little ability or desire to articulate a thoughtful, reasoned and/or logical comment that extends beyond their personal bubble.

Apple takes into account the opinions and desires of a billion+ users. It’s not just about that one individual person who posts about how none of the thirty or so projects Apple’s announced are any good—as if they could possibly know in the first place. But Apple probably doesn’t expect them to like anything. They can’t please everyone, and they know that quite well.

But Apple knows they have content that a sufficient number of customers will like, and be willing to pay for. The more subscribers the better, obviously, but Apple’s under no illusion that the service will appeal to everyone, or even a majority. I’m sure they believe, as usual, that if they make a good product, people will like it and want it. And pay for it.

I predict by the end of the first year, people will be saying something quite different. Netflix has no other business but streaming. The have thousands of films. They will find that when all the majors have major streaming efforts running, and they've found already, they aren't getting the pictures they want. So they have spent $15 billion mostly making originals. The percentage of their originals that are actually good is getting lower. They've been around for a while, but they already lost some subscribers. They're in a brand new world now. I think the old studios will have difficulty. Paying four different streaming companies per month doesn't make good sense. Sooner or later, films will appear in the theaters and on the Internet. at the same time. Box office will crumble.
