Once again we see the same old "it will flop" comments. The Apple Watch came out and people said it would flop (it's now the number one smartwatch on the market), Apple Music came out, the same people said it would flop, (it's doing really well), AirPods came out and yet again it was said that would flop. How about we actually wait and see what happens.

I think the content will start off small, but over time it will grow. There will be a free trial period, over that time i think more content will be added. The bonus with Apple is that it will be integrated into the devices (iPad, iPhone, Mac). I'm already interested in Apple Arcade, i have Apple Music (yearly £99 subscription), i just hope they do a bundle (Apple Arcade, Apple Music, Apple TV+).

The difference between music and TV subscriptions is that with music, you get it all, everything, all of the time. With TV, you get a tiny slice of what is there.

I guarantee Apple fans will subscribe, but intermittently. If they release their 5 exclusives on launch, millions of Apple fans will binge in the free trial.....or wait until they can.

Well, I am very skeptical also that they can pull this off... specially with Disney Plus coming soon.
Good luck to Apple :) and it's fans :)

You're forgetting that Apple Music, Apple Watch etc launched with little competition.

Spotify is still the only major competitor to Apple Music and it's been that way since the beginning. It's a two horse race.

Apple Watch started slow but it became popular due to the fact that it was better than every other wearable available.

Apple TV+ is launching when everyone is suffering from subscription fatigue. Off the top of my head I have subscriptions to Office 365, Adobe CC, Amazon Prime, Netflix 4K, Sky TV (full package inc Sports), BT Sport, PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live and at least a dozen apps that have annual subscription costs. I then have my contract with Vodafone & separate data plan for my iPad. It's getting too much.

Apple should bundle Music & TV+ together, or at least make it a cost incentive option for existing customers.

I’m going to wait and look at it for a month or so and judge Apple, the service and it’s content, based on what I get. That’s what everyone should do. You can’t do that right now, based on what we know right now.
In August 2007, a month or so after the iPhone's release, how well would we have been able to judge its eventual success?

I'm sure that Apple is committed to this for the long term - - not to do so would be leaving money on the table in this emerging entertainment industry model.

Steve jobs would never allow this
Based on his own early investment in Pixar, I believe he would indeed have allowed it.

Once again we see someone defending Apple saying remember the watch, homepods, iphone, etc. They said they would flop too. Lol

Let’s remember Apple had to hire a couple to do this since they have no experience. This isn’t an Apple made product. There’s no software + hardware story here. It’s just a desperate attempt at a revenue stream spending money they otherwise seemingly have no clue how to spend elsewhere. A panic reaction from slowing iPhone sales.

I’m reluctant to do subs. Sorry Apple. Atv wasn’t broken. But now atv becomes a bloated app trying to sell me stuff. It’s a downgrade in experience.

This is the project that will doom Apple; history repeating.
The problem Apple has is that there is no Steve Jobs to come back and save it.

Tim Cook and the people around him are shortsighted as they come. Invest that 6 billion in R&D; in graphene batteries or graphene research to have the screens we see in Sci-Fi; or minimum to increase battery life of Apple Watch so I can track my sleep (reason why I have a FitBit)

There's an overflow of streaming services (HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Fox, NBC...) from companies that their business is creating content. Apple is hardware/software.

It's so sad to see people with those salaries, in those leadership positions making such DUMB, STUPID moves.

The iPhone will fail.
The iPad will fail.
The Apple Watch will fail.
The AirPods will fail.
Apple Music will fail.
Everything Apple does is gonna fail!!!!
Nobody said the iPhone would flop, except for the competition who badly needed it to flop. In fact the iPhone keynote even made it into Germany’s main evening news of that day. No other company announcement before or ever since raised to this level of importance. And this for a product which even at its jaw-dropping price wouldn’t be up for sale for months in the US and years in the rest of the world. Everyone instantly knew, we had entered a new era of mobile computing. Now tell me about this Netflix clone they are building today!?

Exactly, I avoid the ATV app at all costs.. feels like going into a Blockbuster

Very different buying it from LucasFilm, renaming it Pixar, managing it as a a separate entity
Tim Cook is creating a whole new revenue model that is not linked to their main USP as a business.

billions and billions and billions and billions
and billions and billions
and billions and billions and billions and billions

btw, still waiting for Amazon Prime to release Season 3 of Billions to us Prime members (I'm in EU).

Too much for something that will have a fraction of Netflix content. Not to mention all creative restrictions that will probably make most of the content quite boring.

I am curious though: how could they spend on the Morning show (that looks crap) the same if not more than HBO spent on game of thrones (that might have been disappointing plot wise but you can really see high quality visuals, which costs a lot to do)?

Allied services reinforce the Apple ecosystem.

I haven't seen one compelling Apple produced show yet. Carpool karaoke sounded like a novelty that's about as interesting as animoji's. Fun for about a week. Then no one uses it anymore. The show about the space race that never ended? Sounds boring. A post-apocalyptic blind world? Uh not really interested. A show staring reese witherspoon and jennifer aniston? Don't care. Apple seems to have nothing edgy or compelling. Just more packaged, mainstream, vanilla content. No thanks.

You lost us at the beginning when you critiqued Carpool Karaoke. CK is so successful that it was just renewed for a third season! Many millions of monthly viewers.

Will it succeed...good. It means that it will be worth the cost therefore something interesting to spend time with. Will it be a flop? Well, there’s already so much content available, more than any reasonable customer would wish for. Only AAPL owners are worried or excited. Me, as a single consumer, I’m only curious.

No. But if you knew anything about the topic, you'd know that they're only producing family-friendly content.

Does that clear things up for you?
Do you have any interest in hearing from someone who actually knows what Apple is producing?

Cue says that Apple is aiming to create shows for everyone, from children to mature adults. "We're going to do a lot of different shows," he said. Apple will have television shows that aren't family friendly, such as "The Morning Show" with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

"The Reese Witherspoon-Jennifer Aniston show [The Morning Show is a workplace drama set behind the scenes of breakfast TV]. It's a show about women in the workplace and some of the issues that happen to them are definitely not appropriate for you to watch with an eight-year-old."

They would have been better off taking a large investment in Netflix. Bad move by Cook and these things happen when you have cash to burn.

Actually it doesn’t work that way. They would need to own Netflix to be able to have access to their original content, and Netflix’s licensing deals, many of which are ending, don’t transfer anyways. Finally, Netflix financials have always been poor and are getting worse as they are trapped with massively increasing costs with no effective way to raise prices to keep up with those costs.

Sell TV+Music for $9.99 and it’ll be a massive hit. Apple Music will become the new market leader, taking TV+ along for the ride.

Totally agree with this. Especially as Apple won't have that much TV content at launch (unless they include other services within the TV+ package).

IMO comes down to price. If Apple charges too much, it might be a disaster. They have to be the same as Netflix. $12p/m.
Another idea is a master subscription plan with Music, ATV+, storage, News, etc at $30 for a family of 4. That one might be enticing.

A packaged subscription is something Apple would do and you're probably spot on with the price, but I wouldn't pay that much as it simply isn't worth that much to me. I suspect it isn't worth that much to most individuals – especially when it's likely that you would have other subscriptions elsewhere that would overlap (like OneDrive if you have Office 365). It reminds me of Adobe CC which bundles all apps but the majority of people wouldn't have a need to use all apps.

You are right. But the problem with bundling Music is the same as the one they faced during the initial free trials during the rollout; they still have to pay royalties, regardless of the end-price to the consumer.

I presumed that one of the reasons the production costs are so high is that it includes worldwide licensing - possibly with royalties included? (I have no basis for this, just a presumption).

Netflix is about to go in the toilet with Disney and Apple+ if this price is true. I could get both for cheaper than the Netflix UHD plan, and I am sure the quality of content will smash Netflix.
