On Thursday I noticed score updates were delayed or stopped on the hockey game I was watching. End of each period worked. It did that before all this as well.

Apple sports live activities notifications

Yeah, nothing. I'm having the same issue, but with a different app. iOS 26.2 didn't help the situation either. Hopefully it's fixed by iOS 27...
Not having that issue but there are delays in end of period notifications sometimes. Also remember that it may not be an Apple issue. It may be the source of the scores and info itself. But the other scores seem to be working fine. Maybe do an uninstall and reinstall. Also, an Apple Sports updated was issued today.
It's a transit app, but its live activity hasn't worked for the last 14 months or so... at least on apple watch.
Thanks for the tip on an app update… I will see if that helps. As far as the source,!I would think Apple would have made contact with them after all the feedback I’ve sent them recently.
Latest sports app update did not fix the problem with NHL hockey score notifications.

I watched that game on NHL network. So are you saying that when goals were scored you got a push notification each time? That’s been the issue for me.
I deleted the Sports app, restarted my iPhone, installed the app again and it still did not give notifications for score updates.
I also used the Sports Alert app and it has worked fine for all sports including hockey when scores change using live activities.
Just spit balling here.
What type of phone are you using? Do you get live activities on the lock screen and the dynamic island?
And when you team is playing, have you checked to see if the little clock icon is illuminated on the games page inside of Apple Sports? I've had a few games start and that clock wasn't lit up all white. It needs to be to get the live activities and notifications as far as I understand. Just tap on it and it will start.
As for last night, yes, I received updates to the live activity on my 17 Pro lock screen when goals were scored (unfortunately...my team got crushed). It was also updating other play by play events from the game on the lock screen and in the app itself when I went into the Apple Sports app and tapped on the game and then tapped on Play by Play. Now, hockey moves pretty fast so it doesn't list every pass and shot. But it's close enough. I've read through the thread and didn't see your phone model listed. What phone are you using?
Also, I only use the app for my favorite teams (NFL, NCAA Men's BB & Football, and MLB). And it generally works fine on both the phone and my series 10 AW.
Do you have a favorite team set up in the NHL? Maybe pick one for one of tonight's games to test.
Maybe you have another app installed that is conflicting with the Sports app somehow?
Do you have something funky under the settings in Sounds & Haptics? Maybe check your settings there.
If all else fails, maybe do a restore from backup just to get a cleaner install? I know that is a pain but maybe something is corrupted?

Let me cover the issue more clearly…
For all you mention above I do get the same updates for all sports. But for NHL hockey games, when a score changes, I do not get an audible notification… not on the iPhone when unlocked, locked, or on my ultra 2 watch.
For other sports, like last night Mia vs Pit NFL game, for each score i got an audible notification along with all the updates on the lock screen and dynamic island.
The other app does not interfere with the Sports app because it’s not using live activities at the same time. Besides I only installed it cause I don’t get audible score notifications for hockey on the Sports app.
I do have teams that I favorite and they auto start in the Sports app with an audible notification but not when a score changes for hockey Only.
Hope I made this clear as others in this thread have had the same issue for hockey; no audible notification for score changes. Maybe you can see if you get an audible notification next time for hockey.
Thanks for clarifying that. I guess I didn’t completely understand what your issue was. I will have to check the next time I watch my favorite hockey team play and see if I get any audible alerts when there is a score. Off the top of my head, I think it’s hit or miss. But generally I’m watching the game and don’t notice whether there’s an audible alert at the time of a score. I know I generally do get one at the end and beginning of the periods.
Thanks. I too get end of period audible notifications but not scores. If you want you can choose any hockey game tonight and press the follow button for live activities.
All right, I started the Blackhawks/Maple Leafs game to see if I would get any audible notification or haptics upon a goal being scored. And I am not getting either on my watch or on the phone. The goal that was just scored by Chicago shows on my watch and phone’s lock screen. So I am seeing the same problem you are experiencing.

So with Sports Alerts I got an audible notification that a goal had been scored in the Edmonton/Pittsburgh game but that came on my phone and watch. Interesting. Maybe there is an installation issue with Apple sports where it’s not showing up in the notification settings of either the phone or the watch. I have no idea. But it seems to be working with Sports Alerts even though it doesn’t look nearly as nice as the Apple sports live activities.
Totally agree. Glad you tried it to confirm what I have been seeing. I have sent numerous feedback reports to Apple but nothing seems to come of it. Of all the sports apps with live activities, none look as good as Apple.
Here’s a strange happening… one of my favorite hockey teams Flyers playing Habs and after the 3rd goal with 53 seconds left I got an audible notification on my watch. That hasn’t happened before and then I got the end of period notification like it has been.
Seems like something is getting suppressed from getting the notification. I do know that the ESPN app with live activities Does Not send an audible notification on score changes. Strange behavior.
Edit: well the empty net goal of that game did not send an audible notification, only end of period. Crazy..

What’s weird is I do not find the Apple sports app anywhere in the settings sections for either the watch or the phone. It’s the only app I have that is not listed anywhere in the settings. I don’t know what that means other than you can’t make adjustments to the notifications. I’ll submit some feedback to Apple on this tomorrow.
I will try again tonight during my team's NCAA basketball games for both the men and women's games and see what I get from Apple Sports. I will also set up the Panthers/Kings game as well.
