I'm thinking of doing that but the home button is a bit wonky on mine. It double presses even though I single press it. And sometimes it takes two presses to get it to work. I'm not sure I want to pass that along.

Just wait till it stops working & bricks your phone.

That's always fun :D

By the time you figure that out...that price will have dropped significantly. :D

Very true. I bit the bullet in August 20th with gazelle. It was $200 for a Verizon 32 GB iPhone 4. Later that day I got an email saying they extended the 30 day window to 10/1 for iPhone trades. By the next day had dropped about $20.

Why don't you Reset your phone. It may erase everything but will correct your home button problem. You can use iCloud to back up your old information. It worked for me when I had home button problem. I did take it to apple genius bar. They could not fix it! They wanted to replace the phone for $149.00
I came back home without replacing the phone and used Reset to correct the problem. Now my iPhone is working great!

Post event would be awesome, but if it follows previous patterns for iPhone releases then Friday seems like the day.

Just hope the servers don't crash before I get miy pre-order in.

Everytime prior to launch of new apple product there is this sense of urgency created on sites like this and media in general. I understand that there are many who pisvinegar over iphone but I for one will not be buying if it looks like iphone 4.

There is actually a software reset that you can perform to recalibrate the home button sensor without resetting the entire device.

  1. Open an Apple app (Mail).
  2. Hold the power button until the "slide to power off" screen comes up.
  3. Release the power button. Press and hold the home button until you see an animation and it exits to the home screen.
Update - Myth: http://www.marco.org/2012/01/08/drang-home-button-calibration-voodoo

Also recommend using a dry toothbrush around the home button. The bristles will slip inside and jar any dust/grime.

Nah. The home button problem is because of some buildup beneath it. I hold it upside down and rapidly press it and all is well. Eventually it goes back to being a nuisance.

This is good and bad... It's good because it will give me time to check out the phone, watch the keynote when I get home, compare the 2 colors etc... before placing the pre-order...... Bad because I really wanted to pre-order right after the keynote, and hopefully launch day would then be a few days sooner

The reset is a myth. I've tried the bristles route. I need to get a finer bristled brush because a toothbrush wouldn't fit.

That doesn't always work, though. I for one had to replace both mine and my wife's buttons. Very glad they changed that design with the 4S!

This makes a LOT of sense. I was worried because I wouldn't have enough in my account to preorder tomorrow, but since Friday is a payday, it will work. It would make sense that Apple would wait until a payday to open up preorders.

Am I able to preorder, but wait in line at the apple store and pick it up? I ask that based on past launches of iPhones and iPads

I sure hope so. They only allowed delivery for the new iPad. I prefer the reserve and pick-up in store method.

Pre-order and sell your previous phone on eBay, with the end auction date on the same day you pick up your new phone. It's the best way to do it, and you'll get more for your old phone. Trade-in programs are a ripoff.

I'm looking to make an auction for my phone today.
Should I start the auction at a lower amount and let it work it's way up? Or should I just do a BIN for the amount I want?

I plan to keep my phone until launch day next week.

So yet again on another product launch, they don't have the product for release on the day?

Only Apple could get away with this.

Online pre-orders already do a great job of stopping the hoarding and scalping.

No matter what they do, it will always be an issue. Their goal is to minimize it enough so that general customers don't feel as wronged. I think the online pre-order system is designed to do just that.

Did anyone that pre-ordered a 4s on day 1 last year not get one?

That will stop scalping.

Did this quote really say 'china-men' at first? I hope not.
