Apple Staffing Up for iPhone 5 Pre-orders Beginning on Morning of Friday, September 14?

My guess is that they'll do preorders starting Friday, as in the past, and that in the meantime they'll also be releasing iOS6 for downloading, possibly as early as tomorrow but I would't be surprised if it is Thursday. The latter will get all of us out of the way who need to get iOS6 up and running on our iPads and current iPhones before the launch of the new iPhone.

I like the idea of Friday preorders, and I hope they let you reserve one in the store and pick it up there. I really hope it's out the same day over here in the UK as the US, but there are rumours it won't be.

The iPhone 4S went up for pre-order at 3:45 AM (Eastern) and I stood up until then to order it. The next morning I had class, told my Aunt to order it (this was at about 10AM) and she got it the same day as me (launch day). So it was more than a couple of hours. Almost an entire day.

I am 100% sure that iOS 6 will not come out tomorrow. They still haven't given developers the GM and we still cannot submit apps using iOS 6 APIs until they give us the GM. If anything, iOS 6 will come out next Wednesday the 19th at the earliest.

This makes a LOT of sense. I was worried because I wouldn't have enough in my account to preorder tomorrow, but since Friday is a payday, it will work. It would make sense that Apple would wait until a payday to open up preorders.

3:45 am to 10:00 am is 6 h 15 m. With 24 hours in a day, I don't think 6 h 15 m qualifies as "almost an entire day." Unless you mean you ordered at 3:45 am one day and the very next day your Aunt ordered ... in that case it was more than one whole day (24 hours).

She ordered it 6 hours and 15 minutes after it went up for pre-order, doesn't mean that pre-orders ended at 10AM. At 10 AM they were still accepting them for launch day. I think they finally stopped later that evening.

Definitely wait. The new iPhone should be very easy to get once you narrow down your optimal resale price.

Everytime prior to launch of new apple product there is this sense of urgency created on sites like this and media in general. I understand that there are many who pisvinegar over iphone but I for one will not be buying if it looks like iphone 4.

Why would anyone NEED to get ios6 up and running on their iPad or iPhone prior to launch?

I'm thinking of doing that but the home button is a bit wonky on mine. It double presses even though I single press it. And sometimes it takes two presses to get it to work. I'm not sure I want to pass that along.

Is it a 4S? If so, it's under warranty. Just take it to the Genius Bar and they'll give you a new one. If it's not under warranty, take it anyway. It'll be a cheap fix and make it well worth selling on eBay.
