Apple Starts Early Production on Next-Generation iPhones With Force Touch

If they're keeping the poor design, then I'll stick with my iPhone 5.

I'm actually more tempted by a '6C' if it ends up being a retooled 5S

The 5c was a retooled 5 so the logical assumption would be that the "6c" would be a retooled 6, not 5s.

Having never skipped an Apple iteration (note, not just iphone). I think I'll skip this one. Apple stuff has been too buggy lately and not sure I want to put up with another feature that has the potential to break something else and make the phone even buggier.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Don't buy anything with new features because it might have bugs. Why do you have any electronics at all in the first place?

Probably the first iPhone I'll skip (which of course I say every year). I think the 6 is great.

Force Touch on my AW doesn't really do too much for me. I never think to use it, either. Some sort of secret UI element based on a harder touch doesn't scream user friendly to me.

This is actually a pretty big turning point for Apple's mobile division, not because of Force Touch, but because of RAM. We are already seeing a feature in iOS9 that will be exclusive to next generation devices with multitasking, and iOS10 will most likely see some UI elements exclusive to 2GB devices. Now that 2GB of RAM is needed for multitasking, I would be surprised if the 6s came with any less than 2GB.

The 6s will not necessarily be a huge upgrade over the 6 in the short term though. It is kind of a catch 22, but an upgrade from the 6 to the 6s would only be advantageous if you weren't planning on upgrading to the 7, as most of the benefits of the 6s will not be realized until late 2016.

The new camera could be interesting. But I'm more interested to see what Apple engineering has up its sleeve for their new A series ARM processor chip. Last year's A8 chip was as fast as the x86 on some 5 year older Macbooks. It will be interesting to see if Mansfield's team can close that gap so the iPhone is a lesser number of years behind the Mac in raw performance.

Wow even if they do about 50k units a day bw now and end of sept that is only about 4-5MM units not sure if that is enough if they want to launch in china the same day.

Still use my 4s as a daily driver. Bought new 3.5 years ago. Still looks like it just came out of the box. Still has original battery. Best part though - it's still jailbroken. So I've skipped the 5, 5S, 6, 6+ and will continue to skip over the 6S, and 7. Maybe I'll be ready by the 7S. Maybe not.

5s owner who is looking forward to upgrading to the 6s... when the 7 comes out.

#s models are always superior and will last a solid three years from their inception, so getting them a year late for $100 less and enjoying them for two years, wash, rinse, repeat, seems like the way forward to me.

Please, get rid of the home button.

That may happen with the 2016 model iPhone, which will not only get rid of the Home button but also turn (probably) the entire bottom fourth of the touchscreeen into a big Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

No 4", no sale.

There are rumors that Apple is considering a smaller 4" 2016 model iPhone that may look like a reduced-size iPhone 6, though it will not have the visible antenna marks.

i think you've missed the whole point of what's coming: improved OS X/OS9, more RAM, titanium/aluminum (with hidden antennae bands), AND force touch..

how could this be the one to skip?? this is the first one i've been this excited about since the 4

I agree, I think that Apple has realized that they really need to hold their horses on their new features and such and really focus on bug fixes and polishing what they already have out in the wild. I don't see myself upgrading from the 6+ to a 6S+ (??) because it's one of the first phones in a very long time that I've actually not had many complaints about. However, more RAM would be quite the amazing feature because it'll be just like the iPad Air 2 was, overpowered for what's currently offered, but down the road it'll be great!

My Verizon contract is up on Sep 25th, so after that day I will be ready to upgrade from my 5S to 6S+ 64GB or whatever the new bigger iPhone will be. If the new iPhone turns out to be a minor upgrade over the existing 6+, I might jump ship on the Windows 10 phone platform once more is known about the new windows 10 flagship phone.

I honestly wouldn't do it, Windows Phone hasn't established itself enough yet to the point where I would feel 100% confident about using that phone for 2 years or until it's all paid off. Generally, app developers develop for Windows Phone last. After Windows 10, your guess is as good as mine, but Apple's app store has way more selection than Windows app store could ever dream of having.

This is shaping up to be a monster update,

- A9
- Series 7000 Aluminum
- ForceTouch
- Improved camera
- Upgraded FaceTime camera
- 2 GB RAM

+ iOS 9

This is going to bring a world of hurt to Samsung and Andriod

Lmao what? ForceTouch is legit (albeit most people won't care), and the improved camera should be legit too. The rest of it are under the hood things you likely won't notice. That's all the phone has to offer. I'm sorely disappointed.

We don't even know if this will be all. They still have 3 months and they work behind closed doors so they may have something no one is expecting!

Personally for me though, 2 GB of RAM is enough of a reason to upgrade. Add the A9 chip, Force Touch, and improved cameras, and that's just icing on the cake.
