Ups?

Just a comment. I could have sworn when I preordered, it said it would be delivered via FedEX, and even gave the FedEx customer service number to call to see if Saturday delivery was available in your area. Now people are getting shipment notices for UPS? Whatever. I need sleep. I hope I get my notification soon so I can go to bed :p

I'm not going to be around on Sat. for Easter. I hope they reattempt delivery on Monday. The sorting facility is 45 minutes one way to pick up.

Hope there are no thieves... with all these Apple packages going out and people away visiting relatives. They would just have to sit in your yard pretending to tend the bushes or something.

thats an excellent idea! unfortunately, i'm not in america. lol. maybe route the family gathering to your place?

First comes the excitement for a new product. Then come all the negativity about the iPad not working as promised. Those people who buy new technology sure are brave.

Got my tracking number a couple hours ago. About 15 ago, I received a tracking update - "Origin Scan: Shenzhen, CN"

Next Stop: Anchorage, AK!

(32GB iPad order placed 0537, 3/12)

Stoked!!

I ordered mine @ 8:34 on March 12. Got my shipment notification! It's in Shenzhen, China, quickly moving towards my front door... I can't wait!! :D:apple:

Hm...

If it's just a big iPod Touch like many pundits say it is... then it's been properly tested by millions of users already.

I on the other hand, have always been happy with the products I've bought from Apple:apple:; even my first gen. iPhone. It was the best phone I've ever had- until I picked up the 3G- and then the 3GS after that;)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the 4th gen. iPhone will be the best phone I'll ever have- until the 5th gen; :D

part of me is jealous of all of you and the other part of me is blissfully happy i didn't order one without a front facing camera ;)

I dunno about that. I've had a really good run with Apple.

I ordered the first gen intel macbook pro and mac pro as soon as they went on sale, same with the 1st gen iphone and 3GS. All of which are all still running strong today - and I couldn't have been happier with them. I think it's a pretty good bet I'll be more than happy with the iPad.

But I think the people who wouldn't be happy with the iPad would be smart enough to not have ordered one.

I guess there's a risk of a major recall because of a hardware issue with first gen electronics. But I'm willing to live with that, and as I mentioned, Apple has a great track record in my eyes.

I ordered at 5:33am and still no confirmation. No worries...

Yep, I ordered at 5:33 AM too, and mine is just prepared for shipment. You can log in and check your order status — it's probably ready to go out at the very least.

I ordered mine within the first 10 minutes they were available, and mine is still being help for shipping.

Don't believe everything you read -- I think some people are getting creative with e-mails and apple.com shipping notices :)

I got my order in and confirm back at 8:31am EST and got the shipping email last night.

I agree. I think there has been too much hype. It will be a good media consumption device for books and video. For those expecting it to replace a MBP there will most likely be a nasty surprise.

Although there are a lot of orders that means there will be a lot of disappointment too. Expect a lot of returns and iPad eBay auctions when the new MBPs come out.

I severely doubt that there are large numbers of people who are looking to replace a macbook pro with an iPad. Most people probably realize the limitations of the device, and unless there are major technical problems most people will be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.

Am I right in thinking that UPS won't deliver until Saturday (even if its been dispatched). They'll hold the package at the local delivery office until the 3rd.

I should have specified that they would try to replace a MBP for traveling. Having to travel with fragile iPad and balky keyboard dock would be a deal killer alone for me. At least a 13" MBP folds shut and stores nicely.

There are a lot of people caught up in the hype. Hence all the preorders for a device they haven't even seen or held. There is bound to be a lot of disappointment. It's just natural.

Have you used an iPad to determine if it's fragile? Of course there are a lot of people who are caught up in the hype, but I believe most people are fully aware of what they are getting into. Also, I would never underestimate the importance of saving anywhere from $300-$700 and almost 3 lbs of weight.

I'm an idiot, that has been well established on multiple occasions. Anyone want my SS #?

I already have it along with all your credit card numbers. Now you are getting 3 iPads...but not to your home address. :D (just joking)

Has anyone that ordered two of these been given two separate tracking numbers?

Yes! I ordered two and received two unique tracking #s. Both originate in Shenzen China. People were talking about Apple shipping them in bulk to US and I thought that was wrong, but couldn't be sure until I got my shipping notification. I just may have to put a chaise lounge outside the front door of my building for an iPad watch party next Saturday.

So I just got the shipment notification email as well, but my debit card still hasn't been charged.. Is this normal? Anyone else in the same boat as me? I hope nothing went wrong  :(

Your card has been authorized or they wouldn't be shipping. I charged mine on a VISA and my available limit is down by the cost of 2 iPads with shipping, but the transaction doesn't show on my online transactions yet. It usually takes a couple "business" days for the actual charge to show up with all the description information.

It seems like most people have either had it marked as "shipped" or at least "prepared for shipment." Should I be concerned that mine (32GB WiFi, ordered within the first 5 minutes of pre-order, east coast delivery) still shows "not yet shipped"? The credit card shows the reduction in available balance and I haven't received any word of problems about payment from Apple or the credit card company.

Yes, yes, this is foolish worrying and all, but I have a family event planned for this Sunday and I was hoping to have the iPad in hand to show off some old pictures and slides that I've been scanning.

This debate came up with the 3GS. If they all don't at least go into "prepared for shipment" sometime today, then they're probably shipping some from US and some from China. I ordered 2 3GS for launch day. Mine shipped a week early from China. My wife's shipped a day before delivery from Georgia.
