Can anyone comment on why the Fall release Pro model would only come in 12.9" and not 11"? I read somewhere that the mini LED is difficult to implement on smaller screens but the article is suggesting that the tech could be used on a iPad mini as well...so that seems irrelevant.

The 11” model with OLED isn't far fetched.

The rumor could be wrong, or if true, maybe Apple doesn’t think it would be cost effective to offer it in more than two sizes. Maybe they don’t think they could sell enough 11” models. Maybe they’re trying to funnel customers to the 12.9”. Hard to say, really.

Not really, the battery life will be worse by using Mini-LED and won't be better than OLED in brightness, contrast and cost more to produce but won't affect the product price.
Not sure where you have this information from but Mini LED can be a lot brighter than OLED and why Apple won’t use one in a iPad or MacBook.

I highly doubt there is any power consumption difference in driving a miniLED and OLED to the same peak brightness other than you’d be slowly killing the OLED panel.

Considering the length of time people keep iPads and MacBooks and the amount of time we sit in from if them, a degenerative technology like OLED will be a terrible decision for consumers in my opinion.

Nah, I don’t buy this rumour. I don’t expect mini-LED until 2021.

I’m more inclined to believe the rumour that 5G plus A14X will come in Q4 2020 in the cellular models, but without mini-LED.

OLED lifespan is something like 100,000 hours for TVs, not sure about phone/tablet sizes but surely something similar to that? They are still constantly working on improving OLED and you hear about breakthroughs all the time

I think this all makes sense. The update this week was so weak that even Apple didn't really advertise it (except the bloody keyboard).
Usually they show speed improvements etc. and they boast about these things on the website. This time? Nothing
It really is just a small bump to shorten the wait for the big thing to come this fall. If nothing was coming this fall then this update would be bigger than this. So yeah, lets not get fooled :)

You mean charging $1000 for a monitor stand is reasonably priced? No!
Not to those who are blindly true to the force (of Apple)...

But yeah these stand/wheels/iPad keyboard/etc pricing truly qualifies as either a religious test or pledging to the frat of Apple

Nah. The only things that were really missing from the release this week were A14X and 5G. Mini-LED doesn't count as I don't expect that until 2021, despite the DigiTimes claim.

In the iOS/iPadOS I can't do even basic tasks like:

- Change the extension of a file, in the Files app
- Set the Files app to always show the extension of all files
- In the Contacts app, change the group of a contact or create a new group
- See the list of all wifi "preferred networks" and manage them using "drag networks into the order you prefer" and the "+ -" buttons
- Format an external hard drive
- I can't even connect an external portable hard drive in my lightning (non-USB-C) iPad 6th 9.7" because "this accessory requires too much power"
- iPad's Safari is still worse quality than macOS's Safari
- etc

I could write a huge list here telling what basic tasks the iOS/iPadOS isn't capable of, compared to macOS.

Add to that the huge list of desktop apps like Terminal, Xcode, Matlab, Handbrake (don't forget Boot Camp!) that I cannot run on iOS/iPadOS.

So iPad for me is just for reading, watching and fun.

iPad Pro for me is just a pretty and very expensive toy, which I would buy if I was rich.😂

EDIT: ...and the RAM, which is ridiculously low compared to a Mac.

EDIT 2: let's not forget this huge one: in iOS/iPadOS I cannot set the default app to automatically open each file extension!!!

Apple's claim that the iPad can replace a Mac is laughble.

I usually order at every iPad refresh but I don’t see many benefits over the 3rd gen iPad Pro. If it would have had 5G I would have ordered but I’ll wait for the fall.

I like the 5G, for a streaming junkie who uses Safari with a dozen tabs, will the A14X or 5G help me? For me, does the 5G just mean better coverage, does it make its way around and through walls better, or provide better coverage at the beach? The A14X won't help me on streaming or browsing right? I just ordered the 11" A12Z Cellular 512GB with 6GB ram, arriving next week.

We all kind of understood that this was going to be a speed bump. Especially given all the rumors surrounding the impending releasing of the 4th generation iPP. And the reason Apple heavily advertise the Magic Keyboard for the iPad is the fact it's a new invention. I definitely want it... but I'm not planning on buying it.

this is the way for Apple to increase again the base price for an ipad ? Now 12.9" starting from 1099$

This will be the ipad ultra pro

We have a kids 2015 iMac that they share with multiple logins/accounts, and I have a 2019 iMac. My wife and I each have a 2019 Mac book Air, she has a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" and I just ordered 2020 iPad Pro 11". I think she is waiting for the Fall 2020 refresh to buy a replacement iPad Pro, but she loves what she has and doesn't feel like she is missing much except maybe Face ID and slimmer bezels.

We all have apple watches, 1x 3rd for our high schooler and 2x 4th gen for wife and I.
the little kids in elementary have two 2019 iPad airs with cellular.

TV’s don’t display static content for hours on end and at their peak brightness like many tablet and laptop users do.

Additionally, TV’s also use ABL technology to reduce brightness over time and I’m not sure I’d want that tech in my tablet or laptop if I was doing any serious work with it.

LED, MiniLED and MicroLED are much better suited to these devices.

2020 IPP is a nice incremental upgrade, maybe very nice when we get benchmarks. Paired with the Magic Keyboard will provide Apple a test balloon of the notion of an interesting laptop replacement. My sense is that market will go for it in a big way, especially if typing on the MK is compelling. Cannot wait for my my 1TB 12.9 to arrive. I haven’t bought myself a new laptop in years - have a big iPhone and tricked out iMac. Just wasn’t interested in a laptop too. Until now!

It doesn't seem likely that you would get an A14X + 2 additional GB of RAM + Mini LED for only $100 more than an A12Z iPad Pro. That doesn't really make any sense from a cost perspective. More likely: 1TB iPP with Mini LED and 8GB of RAM (same A12Z processor).
The reason I would disagree is that is it's too much more than that, the pricing is beginning to inflate out of reasonable competitive territory. Consider the additional price of the Keyboard and pencil and you're really edging towards 16" MBP territory. So there's not a lot of room to inflate prices further, but what they can do is increase the price of admission by making this more premium and sitting it above the existing model. That means adding in additional features to entice as many as possible to pay more over and above just the extra storage, though. The A14X is a cost they can amortise by using it more broadly in the future, the RAM will help with the multitasking of ever more complex apps.

benchmark for 2020 iPad Pro:

Better than OLED? How is that possible, isn’t miniled still LCD with thicker layer/glass compared with OLED?
I think there is a difference of better power consumption, higher refresh rates and lack of burn-in

Makes complete sense. The iPad is basically repacked 2018 model with just new cam and nothing more.
Also, goes to show that all the rumours so far were correct so lets stick to that. :)

"...a high-end option..." ???

No thanks. The iPad Pro is pricey enough, and as far as I'm concerned the screen looks just fine. I don't want to spend another $$$ for a "high-end option".
