I dream of a 2-in-1. Looks like a MBP and runs MacOS, but when you detach the screen, it pops into iPadOS and is essentially an iPad.

So waiting 2 months until May to get ipad Pro with a magic keyboard at the same time. 5 months later a newer ipad pro coming? So don't buy now, got it. 🤷‍♂️

The new keyboard doesn’t even launch until Q2. But Apple is going to release a second, higher end 12.9 iPad Pro by Q4, shortly before a Q1 2021 update timeline? Seems unlikely.

I bet iPad Pro is updated in March, 2021, with mini LED, A14X, and 5G connectivity.
…who said that anything is coming in Q1 2021? Why would Apple wait months to bring 5G to the iPad? The iPad actually got LTE before the iPhone back in 2012.

I’d almost be surprised if the iPad Pro lineup doesn’t see a second refresh for the year this fall.

Apple trying to pull another iPad 4 on us.
I prefer a stream of frequent and insignificant upgrades.

The 12.9 variant would only serve as a ‘desktop application’ for me, in terms of mobility, it’s just too unwieldy and large for everyday portability with holding. But this will be the perfect iPad paired with the Apple keyboard for a stationary device for me.
It’s an Apple Pencil device. Not a media tablet. In creative, Engineering, and premium education markets, it’s the best of the best. It’s almost the standard in STEM fields in universities because typing doesn’t work well in STEM. It’s also the standard in most private schools, in conjunction with Macs.

Just want a A13 4GB-RAM 128GB 12" iPad Air for US$ 650.

I am glad they are skipping OLED for the iPads. Given how long the screens (at least mine) are on I think burn in and breakdown would be a real concern.

Hopefully mini LED -> better mini LED -> eventually Micro LED

Am I the only one who read "lighter"? The 3rd gen 12.9" is amazing now that they got it down to the size of a notepad. My only wish is that it was a little bit lighter-- tough ask with all the glass and aluminum, but the weight and the leverage of the larger panel can make it a little bit tiring to hold...

just this rumor made me refrain from buying an iPad Pro... I wasn't convinced with A12Z CPU, doesn't make sense it ships with an older CPU than iPhone 11...especially that it is the PRO model

Agreed. 8GB RAM is a minimum standard!

I really genuinely want to know how pros such as photographers can use an iPad Pro in their workflow instead of a laptop. I can’t figure out how to streamline my workflow not to depend on external drives and a multitude of IO, but if it’s possible would like to learn more.

Lots of YouTube videos of people trying to use their iPad pros as a replacement of a Macbook. You can use external drives on the iPad Pro, I think SSDs though need to connect via the USD-C port.

I've had this mindset as soon as I had the first generation 12.9" iPad Pro. I've had every 12.9" iPP from the 1st to 3rd generation (planning on skipping this 4th generation). And after years traveling with it... I've grown accustomed to the size. I always purchase the LTE model... so whenever I go out, I always take it with me. It's my favorite Apple device... and I'll most certainly buy the mini-LED model. However, I highly doubt it comes in fall 2020. I envision a Spring 2021 release...

Complete agreement. I think this is the next evolution but 2 iPad Pros in 1 year after waiting this long for even 1 refresh... LoL nah.

Apple has six mini-LED products in the works that are set to debut in 2020 and 2021, according to Kuo. Apple is said to be debuting the technology in the aforementioned 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 27-inch iMac Pro, a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch MacBook Pro, a 10.2-inch iPad, and a 7.9-inch iPad mini.

I realize this is just a rumor, but what about the 10.5-inch iPad Air, or the 11-inch iPad Pro? Seems odd that the smaller/cheaper iPads are mentioned, but not these two.

Amigos,

what if what IF ... this mini LED 5G iPad Pro is actually a new device. Perhaps an "iBook" with a surface book style detachable keyboard?

It's not a new device and price will not be affected due to change in the LED like the jump from TN to IPS does not increase the cost significantly for the consumer.

Well, as long as you want the 12.9" size as the 11" isn't meant to be updated again this year. Also as long as you're happy to pay towards the top end of the existing price range, if not a little more, as this is very likely to slot in as a high end model at first.

Or an Apple Watch Series 5. It's essentially the Series 4, plus always-on display.

Not the same issue. The iPad 3 was simply underpowered to drive its display.

The Watch Series 4 was a fine, great update on its own, and the 5 doesn’t invalidate that at all.

No, "we" figured it maybe would have a nice 15% bump or so, but not 1%.

Why?

The GPU is only showing 9% boost as well. That's just unacceptable...

Is the CPU in the 2018 “unacceptably” bad?

God dam, a more expensive iPad is coming?

Good. Bring us more iPads.

Bring us a 20-inch or more iPad to compete with the likes of Wacom Cintiq and Surface Studio.

Agreed. Qualcomm 5G already started mass production and can be found on Android smartphones by late 2019

Can’t wait for their performance to reach 2017 iPhone levels.
