Was not aware about that - so how many units does Apples charger support?
None. It doesn't exist!

I don't think that's where the frustration is coming from. Obviously people want it to be ready and released, but they could at least give an update or say "Hey, we're still working on this!".Astonishing how so many people would seem to rather have Apple release a product when it's clearly not ready.
Of course, there wouldn't be much to whine-n-moan about if the AirPower was ready and released.
It’s no guarantee it will properly work howeverTook Apple 4 years to refresh Mac Mini... so... please! Give Apple more time on this...![]()
I agree. Don't forget Apple was late releasing the first gen AirPods by several months. I was disappointed at the delay but I bought them when they were available and I have been very happy with them. Releasing AirPower along with 2nd gen AirPods makes a lot of sense, I think they just got ahead of themselves announcing the product earlier than they should have. As frustrating as waiting can be, if forced to choose, I would still rather buy new Apple products when they are ready rather than when they are promised. The wireless charging case for AirPods would make sense to release alongside AirPower, and the fact Apple hasn't updated the AirPods still leaves the door open for an AirPower launch.
It's probably too late at this point as many people have already purchased cheaper Qi chargers that will last them many years. I know I have.
If Apple can't even get their wireless charging pad off the ground, it really makes you wonder how many decades it will be until Apple can deliver true wireless charging.
Though I will say this whole thing makes me wonder if the AirPower thing was a red herring to throw the rest of the industry off while Apple actually works towards releasing truly wireless AirPower, and perhaps that's why it's so late? I mean, after all, didn't they buy some (for real) wireless charging company a while back? But that is probably just my wishful thinking and fantasy getting the best of me. Would be epic, though.
Not if you count Apple in the 90s. There was so much garbage that never came out that was announced. There was a TV thing, a video phone thing, and some kind of tablet thing. Also Steve Jobs announced that FaceTime would be open source on stage but that never happened. John Gruber said he heard from a friend that Jobs decided to do that on the spot during rehearsal without consulting with the team, who was really confused because parts of FaceTime had licensed software that they couldn't open source. Kinda funny. Jobs was so arrogant, lol.I don’t think so. I think this is another TouchID under the glass situation. Apple wanted it but abandoned it in favor of face recognition and it’s worked out well for them. I don’t know about right now but when it launched no Android phone’s facial recognition could match Apple’s tech not be as secure.
I think Apple should’ve just made a regular 3 zone Qi pad for the 1st generation to at least have an AirPower for sale! Now they’re over a year behind. Sometimes things work and products like the AirPods just work beyond your wildest dreams and other times you hit road blocks. Apple has to have a backup plan. This AirPower is Apple’s first Vaporware at this point.
That's 3 separate zones. That's not what AirPower is trying to accomplish. AirPower is trying to be a zoneless pad... place device anywhere.
Those students Apple wants to employ should not only be skilled but also be blastingly fast to ready their prototypes, put it into production and distribute it before Christmas/NY.I’m not sure apple is trying with AirPower anymore, And regrets announcing a product before the hardware department could confirm it was possible . Wonder if there even was a working prototype.
$149 was 2017, taking into account falling unit sales and Tim Cooks pricing, by the time it launches it will be $999.Is anyone really going to buy this anyway when it's released at $149 minimum and the alternatives are $12?
With the student fees for the listed developer positions and some stocking fees, then there will be only $800 left as gross revenue/unit.$149 was 2017, taking into account falling unit sales and Tim Cooks pricing, by the time it launches it will be $999.
Mac Pro came out December 30th 2013.3 weeks to go on the calendar, let's safely say the last week of the year is effectively out of the commercial release plan - I'm not going to mention that corporations typically don't bother to release products after Thanksgiving in the US as it's too late in the Xmas holiday game plan.
So 14 days to go and counting, good thing they're looking for an engineer now, s/he may have just enough time to step in the office before the year is over.![]()
We must pray there are some exceptional junior geniuses coming in to save those loaded seniors at Apple who failed miserably.3 weeks to go on the calendar, let's safely say the last week of the year is effectively out of the commercial release plan - I'm not going to mention that corporations typically don't bother to release products after Thanksgiving in the US as it's too late in the Xmas holiday game plan.

Airpower will likely play a more prominent role with wearables. Imagine a giant airpower mat where you can simply throw all your apple wearable devices (eg: Apple Watch, AR glasses, AirPods, plus any other health trackers Apple does release) on and they will all charge automatically without you having to contend with cables or placement.I’m not sure apple is trying with AirPower anymore, And regrets announcing a product before the hardware department could confirm it was possible . Apple continues to mention its unreleased wireless charging mat AirPower in recent job listings in the United States and New Zealand.

The openings range from student co-op positions to hardware engineers on Apple's Wireless Power Technology team in its hometown of Cupertino, California as well as Auckland, New Zealand, where wireless charging company PowerbyProxi remains based following its acquisition by Apple in October 2017.

The job description for the openings, posted between late October and early December, each refer to the AirPower a single time:Apple first previewed the AirPower at its September 2017 event. At the time, the company's marketing chief Phil Schiller said the accessory was coming in 2018, as did a few Apple press releases.
Apple Newsroom:At this point, it's not entirely clear if Apple still plans to release the AirPower, which has reportedly faced technical challenges. Apple has not commented on the AirPower for many months, and there are just three weeks remaining for the company to deliver on its promise of releasing the accessory in 2018.
Following its September 2018 event, though, Apple removed all but a few references to the AirPower from its website.
Apple's recent job listings could be an indication that the company is still developing the AirPower, or they could be a simple oversight. There are also AirPower references in the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR user guides.
In late October, in a research note obtained by MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote that "Apple may launch new AirPods and AirPower in late 4Q18 or early 1Q19," without providing further details. If accurate, then the AirPower is alive and well and could be released within the next few months.
The delayed or canceled release of the AirPower is believed to be the reason why Apple has yet to release its optional wireless charging case for AirPods, which is listed as "currently unavailable" on Apple's website. Like the AirPower, Kuo expects the wireless case to be released by early 2019.

Why would customers spend crazy amounts of $$$ while they can buy chargers anywhere for $29 ?Airpower will likely play a more prominent role with wearables. I don't see Apple giving up on this endeavour just yet.
They missed a word from the descriptionIt's never coming. Ever.
I am currently using a wireless charger with my iPhone 8+, and I will say that the whole experience could use some refinement. I still need to place the phone right on top of the charger, and the slightest nudge could move it out of position and result in an uncharged phone (I believe it has happened to me a couple of times). Why would customers spend crazy amounts of $$$ while they can buy chargers anywhere for $29 ?
Charging as such isn’t regarded the mind-blowing high-tech area like Apple wants markets to believe.
Multiply that by 3 products, and that's already $90 with three plugs and a larger footprint. If you travel, this becomes even more inconvenient. Why would customers spend crazy amounts of $$$ while they can buy chargers anywhere for $29 ?

And another thing Apple used to belittleCharging as such isn’t regarded the mind-blowing high-tech area like Apple wants markets to believe.

The idea with airpower is that say I have an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. At the end of the day, I simply toss all of them on the airpower charging mat and don't have to contend with placement or wires. It would be pretty handy for travel as well, given the size (smaller than 3 wireless chargers glued together).
As I also mentioned above, I believe its true value will be found once Apple releases more wearables and the design of their chargers get more unconventional. I don't expect a pair of AR glasses to have a traditional USB port, for one.
