In which case, you maybe missing the point of Airpower, it does away with zones, you will still have positional issues like you do today , where you are trying to charge your 8+ on one zone . Air power will not fix his putting the 8+ in the wrong position , part of the problem is the 8+ , it needs to be in the right position......u experience that issue today.
I think you are missing the point of AirPower.

The problem you describe is exactly what AirPower is designed to overcome, with different charging positions of different sizes overlapping each other. The problem Apple is having is due to heat and bluetooth interference for the iPhone to communicate with the other devices to display their charging status.

Apple's proposed solution would allow you to put your iPhone 8+ anywhere on the mat at any angle.

I am currently using a wireless charger with my iPhone 8+, and I will say that the whole experience could use some refinement. I still need to place the phone right on top of the charger, and the slightest nudge could move it out of position and result in an uncharged phone (I believe it has happened to me a couple of times).
The idea with airpower is that say I have an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. At the end of the day, I simply toss all of them on the airpower charging mat and don't have to contend with placement or wires. It would be pretty handy for travel as well, given the size (smaller than 3 wireless chargers glued together).
As I also mentioned above, I believe its true value will be found once Apple releases more wearables and the design of their chargers get more unconventional. I don't expect a pair of AR glasses to have a traditional USB port, for one.
By the time AirPower arrives, we will have iPhone 17 made by a visioneer who found out that a larger coil will prevent that (which will probably have Phil rolling off stage by excitement and Tim’s eyes deforming his head with dollar signs)

I don't agree, but I have to say I did get a chuckle thinking of Phil rolling off stage.

Well, they support the Qi wireless standard with their devices (I've got a Samsung charger at my desk), so I don't think you can give Apple to hard of a time on their wireless standards. Now whether you'll be able to charge anything with wireless (or at certain speeds) on an AirPower Pad is another question. However, Google has some proprietary features (just due to the way the Qi standard currently works) on their Pixel charging pad, so I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did too.

I'm not talking about Qi charging. I'm talking about completely wireless. Power, Data, peripherals, wireless display separate from the computer base. If apple wants a wireless future, how much of their vision will be proprietary.

LOL ok...

The overlapping charging coils allow a device to be placed anywhere on the mat. Apple is reported to be working on issues due to heat and interference.

Once Apple eventually works it out, other companies will copy Apple's solution and sell imitations for less, but that hasn't happened yet.

I was not aware AirPower could charge a badly positioned device, meaning rhe center of the device would need to fill be over AirPower, just like current pads, the middle of the phone needs to be about on the middle of the pad.

With AirPower, as described, the middle of the phone can be anywhere on the pad.

Hence my point , how is that different from single zone pads now . The middle of the phone still needs to be over the pad.

I get the benefit of a larger pad, where it’s not separated into three zones, but as long as the middle of the device is over the pad.

My point was that an iPhone 8 still needs its middle over an AirPower , or they will have the same issues as today’s single zone pads .

Do you expect to charge your phone by just putting the top corner on a pad?

Do I need to remind everyone that there are still 3 weeks left in 2018? So, Apple technically hasn't failed to deliver on this yet, despite the FUD I see everywhere.

Multiple insiders have leaked to the press that the original design is a complete failure and they've never been able to engineer out the problems with it. They've had to start completely over with a new design at least once, and there's no guarantee that the new one won't have fundamental problems as well. Some have said the project has had "multiple resets". As recently as September one insider reportedly said it is "doomed to failure".

So while you are correct that Apple isn't technically late yet, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that they will be.

Can you share the link of some good ones that reliably do both the phone and AW Series 4 at the same time? I've tried 3 different ones and they all stopped working or never worked consistently

Beacoo 2-in-1 works for me. The phone and the watch charger both have adjustable positioning so that you can tweak them for various different models, sizes, or cases that might change the location of the charging spot.

It does not include the watch charging puck/cable, so you will have to add yours to it or get an additional one.

I bought a black one, but I can't find it anywhere so I linked to the white one.

The Belkin one does 3 in 1 with wireless ports for phone and watch and a 3rd port for as USB A cable. It is £139 though but worth the money for me and there is no light so no bright light at night.

Not if you count Apple in the 90s. There was so much garbage that never came out that was announced. There was a TV thing, a video phone thing, and some kind of tablet thing. Also Steve Jobs announced that FaceTime would be open source on stage but that never happened. John Gruber said he heard from a friend that Jobs decided to do that on the spot during rehearsal without consulting with the team, who was really confused because parts of FaceTime had licensed software that they couldn't open source. Kinda funny. Jobs was so arrogant, lol.

I remember those days lol! Sure they reneged on open sourcing FaceTime but at least they actually delivered it on schedule. Actually they delivered it without anyone of us knowing it was coming. I was totally surprised when I saw the demo at the end of the iPhone 4 keynote. We had all been using Skype for years but this was much more refined!

What's hilarious is Microsoft bought them past their peak for like nearly 10 billion dollars or something ridiculous. I hardly know anyone who uses Skype any more and haven't used it in many years. The only person I know who uses it is my mother-in-law who is deaf and likes using it on a bigger laptop screen because she can see sign language better. She doesn't have a Mac or a large iPad.

It was great software but I just feel more comfortable using 1st party stuff. I do use WhatsApp with friends and family who don’t have an Apple device and it’s fine but I always try to use FaceTime with anyone who has it. I love that Apple lets you know which of your contacts is using an iPhone or iPad when you enter either their phone number or e-mail address.

You know what would’ve been even better for her? Skype on the Xbox One. It requires the Kinect camera which is discontinued but it doesn’t get more convenient than Skype on the couch! Microsoft also has/had media remotes so you don’t have to use a game controller to turn it on. Actually the Kinect even had voice commands like Xbox On, Launch Skype, etc.

Well when she needs to actually call a place, which is what she uses video for the most, she uses a video relay service and that is setup in her living room and that person translates what she signs to speech so she can talk to a company. She usually texts and only Skypes her son who lives in Thailand or rarely my wife if they need to figure out some more complex plans. Funny, I recently traded in my Xbox One and Kinect for a One X a couple months ago, lol. Never once used the Kinect except to pause the TV at our old house and the only game was some short demo. What a waste including that.

Yeah, I just bought a One X with RDR2 for $343 no tax on Cyber Monday and it’s really a great console. Probably the best console ever made. It lacks the best exclusive games like TLOU 2, God of War HDR (gorgeous), Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn,Spiderman, Yakuza, etc. which you’ll only find on PS4 but it makes up for that with sheer horsepower.

While my PS4 can sound like a jet engine, the One X doesn’t make a peep even with RDR2. The cooling solution is the best ever implemented and night and day compared to what the Xbox 360 had. This was what the Xbox One should’ve been at launch but sadly the smaller dies just weren’t available in 2013. It’s insane that a console has 12 GB of GDDR5 and 6 TFLOPS.

I honestly think that even when the Xbox Two is released, the One X will still be around. It’s even possible that we see exclusive One X games depending on the adoption rate or at least the ability to play Xbox Two games at a lower dynamic resolution for the first year or two of the next Xbox’s life.

It really is a next-gen console. It’s well ahead of the PS4 Pro and a huge difference compared to the 2013 models. If developers didn’t have to ensure Xbox One and S compatibility, performance would be even better than it is. With optimization and near GTX 1060/“RX 590” performance it could really perform better than it already does.

My whole thought process went like this: I’ve never liked the PlayStation controller, I did a special deal several months ago where I traded in my original One for the X and it only cost me $300 with PUBG after tax, I prefer the best graphics, I’ve always loved the Halo series, I like messing around with cheap early access indie games, and I have a limited amount of time to play games and also have a Switch so I’d never be able to get around to all the games on PlayStation anyway. Looking forward to playing Outer Worlds now, especially after the Fallout 76 cluster.
