Europe/EU should put 50% on Apple/Google/Amazon/Tesla/Meta....see how quickly *they will turn around.

*They= Is the state we are now in due to US politics.
Ironically Europe will suffer far less than the US when it comes to Apple products, since imports to Europe from Apple's manufacturing hubs in Asia are not affected by the new US tariffs.

But yes, placing costs (via tariffs or other means) on digital services from US companies like Google/Amazon/Meta would hit hard, because that's an area where the US has a trade surplus with the rest of the world ...

We don’t trade with penguins either…yet here we are.

Thank you …. that was sort of what I was getting at.

None of this is coherent policy -- it's mostly "vibes"

Where the "vibes" aren't being aimed does provide some data points.

oh, and also this 👇

As it turns out, I learned yesterday that we do trade with Russia, to the tune of $3 billion, for fertilizer and platinum. So the poor penguins are being shafted even more horribly than we thought.

I skipped the 16 Pro since it was the weakest upgrade since the 3GS. Looks like I'll be skipping the 17 Pro, as well.

You "skipped the 16 Pro", which suggests that you've been upgrading every year, yet you expect big noteable changes from one iteration to the next? That's not how this works... new versions are iterative each year.

If you look at the 3GS versus the 16 Pro, you'd see MASSIVE changes, right?

The 3GS was my first iPhone. Loved it. My 13 Pro continues to perform like new, 3 years on. Pretty much the only reason I'd upgrade would be to get USB-C, since Lightning has been a letdown and I can only charge via Qi now.

We don’t trade with Russia.
False.
According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, the US imported goods from Russia worth $3.5bn (£2.7bn) in 2024. It mainly consisted of fertilisers, nuclear fuel and some metals, according to Trading Economics and Russian media.

I’m beyond mesmerized that anybody thinks Trump has a grand plan here.
He’s been obsessed, irrationally so, with tariffs for decades.

That’s the end of his thought process on it.
Most importantly, real business owners on both sides are hurting here and today, right now, with no help or solution coming their way.

I get that these product aren't a necessity for anyone by any means. But since people want to buy his product, why shouldn't he be able to easily make more and earn decent profits without turning his operation on its head by being forced to move it to the U.S.?

Isn't that freedom in American, being able to sell whatever people want to buy and earn a good bit without getting taxed so hard that there are no profits and you end up losing money when all your expenses are paid?

Those $20K they have to pay are not profits, nor are they getting sent to China as profits for the factory. Those are money that the government swallows, taxes.

Since when are conservatives okay with a 34% tax increase on anything? Aren't we looking for tax cuts for that all businesses, big and small, and all working Americans to have more freedoms in their lives because of having to pay less taxes and have more to spend and invest???

Never said I “expect” notable changes. All I said was I skipped the 16 Pro and skipping the 17 Pro, as well.

Why didn’t this small business owner get their products manufactured in America. This is exactly what is wrong here.

So...how much more are apple products going to cost and how soon...cause im saving up for a new computer....apple stuff is allready too expensive...how much more am i looking at here across the board cause unlike trump, i am not a wealthy man! If i want a decent apple product, i got to save for months! At this rate i may have to save for years!

Maybe you can take a trip to Canada or Mexico since they don't have tariffs?

The M4 MacBook Air is one of the greatest products (and values) they've ever made/released... Why are you on an Apple forum if you seemingly hate the company? Weird behavior.
I'm on an Apple forum because I have used Apple products for since the 80s. And up until about 5 years ago, I was a happy user of such products. Then, things have just been going downhill ever since.

I'll agree that the one advancement with the m-series of chips was a great move. While it also was a bad one when it comes to the horrible support and route they chose to use for supporting things such as external GPUs. GPUs aren't just for gaming.

Nonetheless, I own 2 Apple Silicon macs, and countless Intel, PPC and more, going back to my Apple IIc.

So I've been through all of the ups and downs when it comes to Apple. I've seen it all and used most of it. And throughout all of that time, my outlook on all-Apple-parts has never looked as bad as it is now.

Apple used to test before releasing. That's a fundamental part of a tech company that has products like Apple produces, both hardware and software related. In recent years and especially now, Apple does not do any worthwhile testing. Sure, they may put out 18 different betas for an iOS release, however clearly that strategy is not working for them. I'd go as far as saying that their tests are about as useful as fake news. I don't believe that they are ingesting the data that they should be from testing before releasing. Instead, they just release these days. And, then just seem to go with the flow - it either works or it doesn't.
Then months later we'll get another barely tested (fake-news test?) bunch of betas that have numerous reported issues, that stay in the mix throughout the betas, into the RCs and ignored and then released once again. Just piling on the code-trash that we all are dealing with these days.

Sadly, macOS is not the "Mac OS" that most of us long time users know and love anymore.

To answer your question, I'm on this forum because I'm a mac user, an iOS and iPadOS user.
Am I not allowed to express my opinions about Apple and their declining quality?

There is no way that you can possibly defend them at this point in time compared to how Apple used to operate. There is no comparison. Apple is not the Apple most of us (used) to love, anymore. I could point out a thousand different ways that they've screwed major things up over the past few years, but am not going to waste my time for the sake of a forum.

Stock prices are all that matter to them. Until they get gutted in the markets, nothing will change and quality will continue to decline.

As others here have mentioned, something major is going to have to happen to or at Apple.
Management changes in nearly all departments to start. Then, take a very close look at each department and project managers on-down and weed out the ones that are continuing these bad trends and fire them. The company clearly has a hiring issue and has been hiring from the wrong talent pool.

So yes, I belong on this forum just as much as you do. I'm just willing to take a realistic look at the company and am not afraid to raise my hand when I see a bad egg, let alone a whole company that's filling up with even worse eggs.

That's nostalgia speaking.

Do you have data on failure rates out of the box?

BTW, I remember the Macintosh O/S of the past. It has problems.
I remember when OSX was a new thing, it had problems.

MacBooks were notorious for issues - Butterfly keyboard anyone?

I would love to see your sources stating that home prices have gone up 30-80% in the past three years. That simply does not comport with reality. I'm sure there are certain markets that have - for many reasons - seen outsized inflation. There always are, and they tend to be unique to those markets. Just like there are always markets that show little to no inflation. Nationwide housing inflation was 4.2% year over year in February, a decrease over the same numbers since 2021. Housing inflation peaked at around 8% two years ago and it has been cooling since.

And of course with the just-announced tariffs sparking this stock market turmoil, experts are saying that inflation is only going to get worse.

So inflation has been rocky and looks like it will be getting worse. And if unemployment surges (gov't firings have obviously taken off, and private corporations such as car manufacturers have already announced layoffs), then we'll have stagflation. A word we're going to see a lot more of.
Umm just look at any home value pre pandemic. Some markets are up well over 100 percent but that’s more rare. 30 percent easily. Homes that were 200k in 2020 are now well over 300k. Only think keeping people from selling are interest rates.

Yesterday’s announcement was about tariffs, not about who would be exempt from them. I get that some people can’t resist gloating that Apple appears to have ended up donating $1 million for nothing (not like it makes any difference to their bottom line), and it’s also still early days. Plenty of time for Apple to still engage with the Trump administration to get exemptions, as well as engage in other negotiations.

That said, if even Apple can’t get exemptions, it likely means that no one else can, and that means you have bigger issues to worry about than your next iPhone or MacBook costing more.

Hopefully, Trump reverses himself. Everyone will breathe a sigh of relief.

If I need it, I'll pay it (the increased price). If I don't need it, I'll go without. I don't upgrade my phone every other week like some people. I keep it until it either breaks (stops functioning properly) and I can't replace it (like my iPhone 5C), or the OS upgrades stop coming (like with the 6S I had previously). I'm debating about trying to get another iPhone SE (3rd Gen) before they're no longer available new... I really like my home button. But if I have to upgrade to the iPhone 16e, I'll learn the finger swipe gestures and the new buttons and whatnot. But the size is gonna be the worst part for me... I don't like big phones.

So now it's five years and not three, and you're discussing home values and not prices as you said. My home's value has increased, but the price has not (my home has zero $ price because it's not for sale!). Prices and market values are two different things. Price is what people actually pay for a thing (hence inflation). My home's value does not count in the inflation rate because it has not been sold. That's why the real number is very different from "home values."

Actual home prices reflected in inflation is what I linked in the CPI chart. That number is nowhere near the number you quoted, though, as we both mentioned, some markets have shown staggering increases which are generally more related to that specific market.
