1) Yes, Apple now has genuine competition in the smartphone market.

2) The NASDAQ dropped almost 2%; Apple's not alone in having a bad day.

3) The stock is likely being manipulated.

Let's look at the tale of the tape for 2013:

iPhone 5s: Will sale out for 2 months and then die quickly.

iPad 5: Will not sale out because of iPad mini. 7.9" is the new 9.7".

iPad mini: Retina model will be at least $400 or Apple will keep the same screen resolution. A $329 retina iPad mini will kill the 9.7" model. People don't want to pay $500 for a 9.7" iPad when a cheaper portable iPad mini is compatible with 9.7" iPad apps.

iOS 7: Will not be a major upgrade. Face it guys. Expect some gloss, polish and new switches. Nothing ground breaking.

Apple TV: Just a hobby.

Time to take the blinders off people. Apple can't keep up momentum. Apple is afraid of change. Apple ignores what's going on in the field and so do the people that fellow them.

Stock price this time next year: $300

I can see that you're very optimistic...

YES - some new, innovative product offerings that excite customers as they used to do.

Agreed.

They need to a) innovate, and b) release something new and useful, like upgrades to iWork and Logic Pro and FCP, etc., as well as a new Mac Pro and other computers.

Just those two things will help Apple.

Apple deserves this for relying on iToys and dumping the pro market. Any apple share holders want a life raft? Can through you a life vest (weighted down of course)

The biggest enemy of Apple is not Google but itself. Most of its profits come from iPhone but they refuse to give people different sizing options and so people like me have pre-ordered the Galaxy S4 because it has a 5" screen compared to my puny iPhones 5's 4" screen.

Why can't Apple just do a 4",4.5", and 5" screens? Give people options, small screen phones are so 2007. Also, redesign iOS, its so boring now.

Because 7 inch tablets are bigger. Because 10 inch tablets are bigger. Because... Bigger isn't better. iOS redesign is a given. Any other excuses?

Of course it's my opinion! What's your point?

I love a lot of the 80s stuff as well. Yet back then this was considered "cool"

Ooh, speaking of "considered cool"... War Games! Love that movie in the 80's.

Now this is a cool setup...

Maybe if Steve had the W.O.P.R., he could have really gone thermonuclear war on Samsung's ass! (pardon my French):apple:

In case I missed the boat ... "Apple is doomed"

/s

Slow news day I guess but I love that there are 11pages worth of discussions

Well come on, it's hardly surprising now is it, I mean, what was the last innovative product Apple brought us!

The words caught napping, resting on laurels, underestimating competitors and the limit of customer loyalty come to mind!

I say give us a true S4 ot HTC One competitor (or bring back the iPhone 3 casing!), reduce prices, put the optical drives back and start listening to customers; not doing what jobs used to do, that being telling people what they want and delivering sub spec products!

The Apple backlash predicted many years ago as started ... and ts all down to loosing focus through greed and bad management! The king is dead, Long live Microsoft!!!

Amen. You nailed it on the head "consumers are a fickle bunch" indeed.

No, the look has become stale to consumers as well. I see the evidence when walking down the street and paying attention to what phones folks are using. The proliferation of the more expensive android handsets cannot be ignored. Also, comparing the PC market to the mobile market is not the best analogy although I see the point you are making.

Is this the end of Apple, certainly not and in Ive I trust. However, it goes without question that the public's perception of Apple has shifted. The competitive landscape has changed and Apple (as well as its competitors) must constantly elevate to the challenge as consumers are a fickle bunch.

Only when it goes down or it is also stock manipulation when it was going up?

Technically this slow sales period (Q1) is the best time for Apple to let the stock drop ready for a hype frenzied lift at the end of the year when tech sales are high.
Just jokes :) I'd not say that anyone was stock manipulating.

Stock manipulation at it's finest.

Legalized gambling the stock market is.

Apple seriously needs to make itself private. F' all the goddam stock investors; they don't need to answer to anyone but consumers.

As idealistic as that may seem, even Apple, Google, and Microsoft combined don't have the funds to buy Apple out. Despite their public finances decline, Apple is still one of the most valuable companies in the world. And in reality the backlash from going private and the after effects of that change don't make it worth it. Despite the bad publicity, a falling stock price doesn't have enough real effect in itself to justify a buyout for privatization.

All of these are true, especially the third. The power the media has to magnify things like this Cirrus statement and the 'decreased demand' debacle back in Q1 is depressing. Although its more depressing that the media 'twists' the truth to get more publicity.

While previously loyal apple customers like myself have migrated to other devices (awesome Lumia 820), because Apple can't give me what I want or give me confidence in their staid and now boring products anymore, sites like this are filled with 'fanboys' who won't accept any criticism of Apple and continue to argue bigger screens, removable battery's, wireless charging, NFC, micro SD slots are just gimmicks; summed up in the words 'iPhones are awesome, the Galaxy S3/4 is plastic crap that doesn't fit in the pocket'.

Meanwhile in the real world, people have been voting with their wallets. Wake up people, but mst importantly, wake up Apple!

----------

Amen. You nailed it on the head "consumers are a fickle bunch" indeed.

No, I'd say loyal apple customers have now decided enough is enough and have voted with their wallets. It's nothing to do with being fickle; apple aren't giving people what they want (like they used to do), others are. Simple as that.

Eh? The facts are the share price is down. It's quite clear, in black and white.

Prepare yourself for the stock to go down even further if apple announces good profits.

Prepare for Apple stock to go down regardless of profits. They desperately need a "special event" - one where Cook is miraculously brought out of his coma!

Ive would make a worse CEO then Cook. Much worse. We all know the reasons why. And secondly, he need to be kept doing the job he does now. NO distractions. And gibe him anything he wants so he has no reason to leave Apple.

The problem is, most of the haters (like myself) are/were loyal apple buyers; now dissolutioned by apples inability to deliver, but more so, the constant berating of other manufacturers products by fanboys out of touch with reality! Apple don't give me what I've come to expect, what I want or what they promise, so yeah, I'll vent my frustration and spend my money on better stuff elsewhere. Apple seems to forget, ultimately, it's NOT about Apple, it's about the products they (used to) create! These no longer exist so of course the share price will drop!

...Next 6 months, a new iPhone. Six months after that, a new iPad. Six months after that, a new iPhone. Six months after that, a new iPad... Got it? Keep up the great work, Apple!

What exactly has Ive done for the past few years????? (other than do cheesy commercials and draw pretty products that OTHERS actually make a reality!) I do not understand all the hype around this guy!!!!

LOL - you have a reasonable argument. Glideslope did not.

As if the "pro" market drives apple stock. As I said before Apple could release a new MacPro tomorrow that was the best Mac or PC ever released and the stock wouldn't move one bit. Wall Street cares about iPhones, iPhones, iPhones, iPads, iPhones and something, anything new. Oh and did I say iPhones?

Having a bad day?

Just curious what revolutionary product we're getting from others (that are actually selling)? Sorry but tablets with pen input aren't new. And what's revolutionary about phones with bigger screen sizes? It's not like Apple couldn't make a 5" phone if they wanted to. Some would argue Windows 8 is innovative, yet PC sales are in the gutter and these convertible devices aren't exactly flying off the shelves.
