Apple Stock Price Marks All-Time Closing High Ahead of New iPhone Rollout[/url]

I don't get it. The implication is that the iPhone 5 is imminent and the all-time high close directly precedes it. Anything could happen to the stock between now and the iPhone 5 "rollout". This stock close is also "Ahead" of the new iMac rollout, the new Mac Pro rollout, etc.

Wording just a bit premature.

Let's start with Steam.

Steam is so buggy on macs that Valve dedicated an entire forum just for mac-related errors.

Let's start with your ignorance.

Steam is so buggy in general that they have an entire forum just for windows-related errors.

Don't know about you, but I'm a huge PC gamer. I mean, why bother upgrading a 10 year-old PC if you're not going to do resource-intensive activities?

The difference in dev support between windows and macs become even more apparent from 3rd party applications from companies, groups and individuals

CS: GO for Macbook Pro 2010 - Mac problem
Texture [BUG] - Mac problem
Blank screens, steam overlay failing, unresponsive screens - Mac problem

The list goes on.

Note that I didn't cherry-pick the topics. They were all on the front page. You should also note that mac users only make a tiny portion of Steam gamers yet make up the vast majority of bug-related complaints. One can safely arrive at the conclusion that Steam is more unstable on macs than it is on windows.

This. Steam is a gigantic leaning tower of ****.

As far as OSX v Windows goes. Each OS has pros and cons. Pick the one that works for you.

Choose the tools that suit their jobs the best.

It may have a lot to do with the fact that Steam has been on Windows since forever (2002) and has been introduced for OSX in 2010. Also the sheer number of people using Windows could be a reason for more feedback and faster resolutions for the Windows platform... Also since windows seems to be the bread and butter platform ofc Valve would dedicate more effort on resolving Windows issues asap...

Hard to believe that $200 was in 2010, just after the intro of the iPad.

I bought at $200, bought again at $210 (after it went to $280 or something then dropped), then sold at $277 or something. Sadly, Apple's tendency to go to $280 then drop ended after I sold. I got back in a few months ago.

It's still funny to remember my friends who said that I should sell on the day of the iPad release and that Facebook would be bought up like crazy. Well, I'm glad Facebook's IPO did not go well :p

Hey I just want Apple to do well because I have a lot of money invested in the ecosystem, and would rather they don't turn into the next RIM! It would be very inconvenient to have to change ecosystems.

A friend of mine is holding onto her blackberry til the end, refusing an iOS/Android switch. IF Apple were to ever be in a similar situation, I'm so invested that I'd sadly probably be the same way.

(Though I own both stock and Apple products)

Why would she switch ? BlackBerry phones can do things iOS can't, and I can give you 22.5 million reasons not to go Android. (With a BB I can add multiple attachments to an email, to include attachments that the phone can't open. I frequently work in remote areas of the world, and laptop Internet is not always reliable or available.)

Besides, with iPhone 5, Win 8, and BB OS10 phones coming out in the next few months, why would anyone buy a new phone today ?

I admit RIM is in a pickle, but they are not dead. They still have several billion in cash, zero debt, and income from BIS/BES and QNX.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The only reason it's up this high is because the overall market is up on better news from Europe.

Didn't help Facebook! FB is down to 19.87, busting below $20! LOL:D

I bought some AAPL when it was ~$125, had to sell all those shares years ago to cover some expenses and my next block was at double that price. Wish I'd been able to hold onto those shares till now!

Has anyone actually been issued their dividends? It was supposed to be paid today but I looked at my brokerage account and nada.

For me, my workflow, heavy lifting, high performance simulation software for work, and gaming. I use windows. Its just better for me in that area.

For my media center, and daily driver living room computer, I've always usef OSX, the most recent mac I have being a 27in 11 imac.

Choose the tools that suit their jobs the best.

As far as AAPL stock goes. I have a small number of shares, and when I sell ill probably make about 30 or so grand off them. So I'm happy about this news. I also hold MSFT stock, so I hope they also do well.

steam is great on windows brah

I hope the idiots who screamed "Short It" when the last quarter came out are having a nice meal of crow right now.

Or maybe they can't afford a meal given their brilliant insight into the stock market.

Idiots never eat crow. That's the beauty of being an idiot. You just go on the next stupid thing and repeat it.

Correction to the article: AAPL went ex-dividend on August 9, not Monday -- which means that an owner of shares on that date received the dividend when it was paid out.

----------

For those of you that are shareholders, due have any price in mind at which point you would consider selling at? 700? 1000? I got at a very good price and I'm not sure where to get out at. I feel like apple is such a fad thing right now. I go to school and people buy MacBooks to go on facebook and FaceTime. They don't get it that you can do the same thing on a 400 dollar laptop. I think eventually the fad will fade out. Apple will still be a strong company with all the stores and iTunes and apps but they will lose this "need to be seen with apple products" eventually.

An investor doesn't make such arbitrary buying or selling decisions. They determine what they should buy, sell or hold based on their own portfolio, investment goals (which should change with age), and their sense of whether they believe the company is in a good position to grow its earnings.

Correct.

Here's the language from Apple IR.

"The dividend is payable on August 16, 2012, to stockholders of record as of the close of business on August 13, 2012. The ex-dividend date is August 9, 2012."

In order to get the dividend, one would of had to purchase these shares on August 8 or before and at least keep them until August 14.

Interesting. Just logged into my etrade account and still don't have anything..

Me either. You did get paid today though. It'll be updated online tonight though. Log in tomorrow morning and it'll be there dated for today.

Does E*Trade have a habit of being late with dividend payouts?

If so, they might be withholding payouts to generate a day's worth of interest, just like banks not clearing large deposits for several days, in order to make a quick buck.

My guess is that this is legal. If E*Trade is the shareholder of record, then the dividend was paid to E*Trade on time, today. Whether or not E*Trade distributes the dividend payout to its customers today or tomorrow might really be their call.

The first thing to look at would be dividend payout dates for other stocks.

This is the reason I hate fanboys so much. Buy the best product on the market. Stop looking at the brand or how much money the company who made the product is making.
It's the same crap on the Systems Wars section on GameSpot.com. You have a hoard of xbox and PS fanboys who don't own either MSFT or SONY's stock, yet cheer for one of the company's financial downfall or the other's financial solvency. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I thought you buy gaming consoles to play games, not sales.

I love Apple's products, therefore I love Apple, therefore I want Apple to succeed as a company. I don't understand the ridiculousness in that logic.

As of the close of today's market AAPL is now worth more than Microsoft, Google, and Amazon combined. Not bad for a doomed company. ;)

Correct.

It should not be necessary to hold them until the 14th. By definition ex-dividend means that the shares were bearing dividends as of that date and whoever held the shares at the market close on that date receives the dividend, even if they sold the shares before the distribution.

My guess is that if E*Trade is anything like Charles Schwab and allows fractional shares and reinvestment even if the company doesn't have a DRIP they might need an overnight run to sort out all the dividends.

Keep in mind that Apple stock is also one of the largest components of any S&P 500 or NASDAQ index fund, not to mention any number of other ETFs and mutual funds. That's a lot of stuff to sort out during the trading day.

It can only stay that high for so long. There is an end to every good thing. Of course it won't rocket down - it just can't get much more expensive.

Of course it can. You'll see $700 after the announcement of the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini.

They are the best company in the world...it's still extremely undervalued.

At least reality is setting in on Wall Street about the latest 'Dot.com' fads like Facebook, Groupon, etc...

And in other news Google is @ $672.87:rolleyes:

It need to cost much more than that to be bigger than Apple.

Me think you just take the world too seriously. He might be sarcasm after all.

This is stupid. Are you only allowed to buy a MacBook when running heavy programs on it? That makes zero sense.

I think you're the one who doesn't get it. *Everything* you can do an a MacBook can be done easily one a $200 netbook. It's just slower and less usable, but it still can be done. Following your reasoning, everybody should buy a $200 netbook.
