The LG display is not sold anywhere else? Are you saying it was an Apple exclusive?

Yeah...I'm kind of steamed I can't buy a Toyota at a Ford dealership. But I do know where I can get one.

Again. Very clever. Try reading all the posts for improved context.

You'd rather have a less higher density display, or did I misinterpret what you wrote?
Yes, I'd rather have a slightly lower density display. Why? Because the lower the density, the larger the default font sizing.

I have both my 27" iMac and 30" Cinema Display (with Mac mini) on a corner desk. To compensate, I have my 27" iMac sitting closer to me, but that is not an ideal solution. It makes the space more cramped, and also, I find it harder to focus with my older eyes if the screen is too close, even with my progressive lenses. You can get computer-specific glasses, but that causes other problems.

Back in the day, Apple felt 100 ppi was the perfect (non-Retina) pixel density. I agreed. But then they went to 109 ppi in the 27" non-Retina iMac and then pixel quadrupled that to 218 ppi in the 27" Retina iMac. I have both of these machines (2010, 2017) BTW.

A workaround is to use scaled resolutions, but it affects text quality, and also the offered scaled resolutions aren't ideal.

tl;dr:

A lower pixel density means larger default fault sizes, allowing for placement of the screen further away, and easing focusing by the eyes of middle aged dudes like me. Presbyopia is a bitch, even with progressive lenses.

4K ultra fines haven't been sold for at least 3 years
Maybe in Apple Stores

But they are available on Amazon. I bought one last year.

Not sold by Amazon. What is Appario Retail Private Ltd?

EDIT:

They get 1.7 out 5 on Google reviews in India. Not too encouraging. For example:

I bought IPhone 12 pro from Amazon, but what I got is candles & some cottons in the package, I claimed for refund from amazon which was denied. Later I filed a case in consumers court. Nowadays shopping online is a nightmare. Overall package is really worst, & doesn't seems to be suitable for packing a Rs1.2lakh phone.

---

I had purchased an apple smart watch in Amazon and the seller is Appario, the product that i found in the box was completely fake, the serial number of the apple product indicates that the product was sold on 2nd December but I had placed my order only on 22nd December. Apple's warranty also states the same indicating the watch was purchased on 2nd December. And both the times it was the same seller, Appario. So same watch is being sold twice. I have proof from apple warranty stating this serial number was sold on 2nd December and my invoice is dated on 22nd December.
Do not buy apply products from Amazon & Appario

Here are some of the ways the Studio Display is superior to the UltraFine 5K
  • 600 nits of brightness (vs. 500 nits)
  • Aluminum design (vs. cheap looking black plastic)
  • Six speaker system (vs. two)
  • True Tone capable (vs. not)
  • USB-C ports are 3.1 Gen 2 (vs. 3.0)
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera with Center Stage (vs. 1080p)
  • Three microphone array (vs. one)
It's a really compelling product, although I do wish that it had ProMotion or mini-LED backlighting.
ProMotion, MiniLED—and XDR and Face-ID for me!

This is important. For example, you could buy a Logitech camera... for $100 and get a sub par experience, and you wouldn't get Center Stage either. The speakers are undoubtedly great on this thing too. For my 30" Cinema Display I have $200 worth of speakers and a small amplifier, taking up extra space.

However, I just wish it were bigger, at say 29", with the same resolution.

Those two options would simply triple the price. It will be at least 3-5 years before you'll have those in a 5k 27" monitor at this price.

If you take the $1300 that the UltraFine launched at in 2016 and adjust it along with U.S. inflation it's somewhere around $1560 today. The Studio Display is a also significantly better product.
Except the LG has a height adjustable stand. The new Studio Display needs another $300 to have that capability.

True Tone is actually supported on the UltraFine 5K.

Something nice about the LG UltraFine 5K Display: I was able to drive it at 5K with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). A laptop that served me very well until I replaced it with a M1 Pro laptop last fall. Finally a worthy successor! :)

Anyway, if you look at tech specs for that 2014 laptop on Apple's site and in various forums, driving at 5K should not have been possible. It should only have driven the UltraFine 5K at 4K or less resolution.

Since I unexpectedly had a UltraFine 5K, I decided that 4K was alright for me for the time being and tried it. Lo and behold, it drove it at 5K. And it drove it for 8 months, at which point I got the M1 Pro. The fan did run a good bit more in that 2014 laptop driving the 5K, but otherwise it did great. (There were just two anomalies. MacRumors, and one other website that I don't recall, had glitches when used in Safari with the UltraFine 5K. Brave or Chrome browsers were fine. All other websites were fine.)

I'm very glad with Apple's new monitor offering, but won't be able to justify it for myself for the time being because the UltraFine is working really well for me. The screen is beautiful. The hight adjustable screen is solid.

The Apple Studio Display is still using the same or very similar LG panel. I wonder if Apple and LG had some kind of business agreement and the term of the agreement lapsed. Just a hunch but I have got to imagine that the LG UltraFine 5K's privileged position in the Apple Store was part of an agreement Apple made to secure 5K panel supplies for their 27in iMac. Since Apple axed the 27in iMac, LG was happy to take a new contract for 5K panels to make this new standalone display.

Apple tried the LG monitor partnership and it failed miserably. So they went back to doing their own. Good.

I'd trade all those features for promotion and height adjustment. :)
Apple will exchange 400 USD for height adjustment.

Apple doesn't have a high refresh rate display in their lineup even if you spend 5000 dollars. So I imagine you'll have to exchange at least 5000 USD some unknown time in the future for promotion.

I think you are missing the point. I was just saying that LG is still selling Ultrafine 4k displays. I actually bought one. How is it important who the seller is?

LG website also lists this same product.

Maybe they will discontinue the 4K and release 24" version of Studio Display once Mini is updated? Like.. Studio Mini :D
(Remember the rumours about LG making new 24,27 and 32 inch screens for Apple?)
I don't have a case for a large 5K screen, a 4K cheaper version would be amazing..

Cheaper? Dell sells the 4K version for $1,509...

How likely is it that Apple will sell a Studio Display or Cinema XDR in Space Gray?
Unlikely because there is no Dark Mac Studio either. Maybe in future when the product line matures. Right now its in the middle territory where they are too powerful for most users and too under powered for people who want to upgrade from Mac Pro.
