Apple is insecure and heavy-handed. They seem threatened and offended that some people think their new software is crap and they’d rather go back.

iOS 11 adoption rates have been slower than 10 and judging by this behaviour 12 will be even slower still.

12 will be even slower and signing window will be even narrower!

Feels too soon. I know that Apple wants to push the narrative of the latest iOS being the best choice for all people and all devices, but it isn't, never has been, and surely they know that. I'm not saying they have to keep all versions of the OS around for all devices forever, but this feels too soon.

Any one who didn't just become an iPhone customer knows the drill

But being cautious could be construed as paranoid (rightly so)

Being an early adopter could be ambitious or placing a lot of trust in apple when they have a track record of going from mature iOS to sloppy iOS relatively speaking with every major leap

11.0 has been fine in my 12.9 gen 2 so I refuse to revisit the situation until 11.1 is out. Not gambling with 11.0.x builds. No way

Conveniently 11.0.2 is out and I can't revert to 11.0 if I wanted to and .2 ended up messing up more stuff than fixing

I have an iPad Pro that I'm keeping at 10 because it's still 32-bit compatible. If I need to restore it I guess I'm SOL because I'll only be able to install 11+? That sucks.

This is a hostile move.

Apple is hostile towards its users.

Walled garden starting to look like walled prison. No escape.
Such (feigned?) outrage over something that's basically the norm and has been happening for years and years now.

When Apple harangs you daily to update that's not choosing.
Delete the downloaded update. Install tvOS profile if you want to block it indefinitely.

No, as long as it's functional you can reset the device from the Settings app.

Are you sure? I'm having massive trouble getting my iPhone 5 - now relegated to Wifi only duty after I bought my 6s - to sign into iMessage. I tried to do a DFU restore just an hour ago and hopefully fix the trouble, and "The update is not available for this device".

I usually keep my iPhones but this one just might see the business end of a hammer after I get the X and my 6s becomes my alarm clock. Nothing but trouble from about iOS 9 onwards.

Well, that's how it works with iPhone 4s and older phones, for example, so I don't really see why it would be any different in this case.

You should try recovery mode to see if that works for you.
From what I saw on a signing check website, Apple stopped signing iOS 10.3.3 for ALL devices including iPhone 5. They started signing it for the A6/A6X devices again shortly after.

If Apple had the courage to stand behind their software they’d give people the option to downgrade. They don’t seem to like that some people are wanting to return their new goods as faulty and are absolving themselves of pleasing these users when they could quite easily do so.

These are users that gave Apple the benefit of the doubt and risked the usability of their devices by trying the new software. Apple repays these users with heavy-handed refusal to allow them to restore a previous version within mere weeks of release and without any clear timetable of when the permission would be revoked.

A poor reality that I and others here are arguing against yet you seek to deny us this choice.

Slavery was once reality (and to some extent still is).
Right, it's totally like that. Also, cars, since they make for good analogies too.

Just downgrade my 6s yesterday. 10.3.3 is so much smoother and faster.

Tell me about it. i downgraded 30 mintes before they stopped signing because i was getting apple logo bootloop when my battery was empty instead of showing that empty battery picture. Seems to be a common problem with ios 11 and iPhone 6. glad i'm back to 10. missing the control center though :(

As a Software Engineer I'm very glad it isn't possible for people to downgrade to older iOS versions. Nothing is more annoying to take older iOS versions into account when developing apps. It breaks innovation and costs a lot more time.
People also seem to forget that staying on older iOS versions is a big security risk, which shouldn't be underestimated. Nothing is more important than upgrading to the newest software version since a lot of exploits and security issues are fixed. I cannot stress this enough...
In my opinion iOS 11 runs perfectly fine on older devices like the iPhone 5s and 6.

This is not Android where many people are running ancient versions on a huge range of devices. Developers for iOS have it comparatively easy. Apple provides security updates for versions of macOS long after they’ve been superseded and I’m pretty sure they push important security updates to at least the previous major version of iOS too. They certainly don’t deny Gatekeeper support to those devices so your point is moot.

I’d be happy if Apple gave us a 3-6 month window to downgrade. And I’m not asking to be able to go from 11 to 9 either. You can’t handle that? How do you handle iPhone 5 owners that can’t even upgrade to iOS 11? Apple has cut the ability to downgrade within a few weeks of releasing new software. That is unprecedented behaviour in every other platform and extremely hostile to users, all for what? A metric they can gloat about on stage once a year? Well I think their behaviour is counterproductive to even that. I don’t hear developers crying because a few people want to downgrade Windows 10 to 8 or 7 for a while until Windows 10 improves (which it has).

[doublepost=1507198078][/doublepost]I want to upgrade(sic) to 11 but do not have the option. Standard procedure says 10.3.3 is the latest version and does not offer 11. Hooked up to my MacBook to go the iTunes route which runs fine for 30mins then throws up an error message.

After the third attempt I gave up and Apple support by phone do not have a solution. Upgraded my wife's 5S and both our iPads with no problem, but no joy with my 6S Plus.

Reality is the hyperbole is everywhere.
When we have home button delays and stutters animations everywhere, why was the access to 10.3.3 removed? Now those with devices stuck on iOS 10.3.3 can no longer test out the upgrades to see if they fix our issues. My 12.9 2nd gen is on 10.3.3 and runs like a hot knife through butter. How am i supposed to know how it runs on iOS 11 now?
