Are you serious is this really thunderbolt 3 only?!!
Having two screens really bothers me know I’m not even sure how good this MacBook Air will look on a 34 inch screen now unit 60 Hz I worry.
Yeah looking at the pricing not really the best thing it’s only seems like we’re paying for the higher minimum wage salary of the retail store employees just bothers me a bit
I was asking myself the opposite question. Why would anyone choose the new MBP? The screen and camera are inferior. I don’t understand why Apple even bothered to introduce it. Am I missing something?Disappointed with the lack of a new Mac Mini. New MBA looks more like a low end MBP, like the Aluminum MacBook:

$1,200 for 8GB is ridiculous though. Even more ridiculous given that Mac OS isn't exactly the most memory efficient operating system and will always be slightly slower than a monolithic kernel because it runs on Mach. And that 8GB is shared with the GPU, and the screen is very high definition. So, expect to run out of memory if you leave too many tabs/apps open. And the MBP starts at $1,300. The same spec'd MBP is the exact same price as the MBA. Why would anyone choose the MBA? For the lack of touchbar?
Good point. Everyone knows the 8GB is simply not enough for any of the M1 machines. They could bump it up to 12GB as the standard minimum, and it would solve the issues, and still leave people tempted to upgrade to 24GB as an optional extra.Agreed. They should have made it at minimum 12GB for the MBP
Right now the options are either 16GB or 24GB. To be honest, it's a either too expensive and have longer running device or cheap-out and perhaps upgrade sooner than expected.Good point. Yeah, and once you've added the actual RAM and SSD you need, at full Apple Tax Mega Rip Off Upgrade Prices, rather than the pathetically inadequate base specs, and then compare the M2 MBA with the M1 Pro 14" MBP prices, then you may as well get the 14" with the screen and audio quality, and all the other extras.Wow, I was about to buy this until I realized that these don't have HDR support (guess it is reserved for mini-LED) and that the entry price point is €1500 for 8 GB of RAM and 256 SSD. That is quite frankly insulting and embarrassing.
Seems to be an excellent machine, but inflation, supply chain issues and increased cost of chip production is real. €1500 for 8 GB of RAM is too much though. I was thinking of 16 or 24 and I'm looking at over €2000. Really shafting europeans.
Wow, the price in Sweden is even more insane. 2600 USD (including 25% VAT) for the 16 GB and 512 GB SSD config. Why would anyone buy this over the MacBook Pro? The MacBook Pro is actually cheaper at that point.
Edit: For context, the entry level Pro is at 23 995 SEK with 16 GB of RAM and 512 SSD. Which has an HDR screen and other goodies. Apple messed up the price points for the Air in Scandinavia. The value proposition is sort of whack.
24GiB of RAM is plenty enough. I would like to know what you could possibly be doing on a laptop to cause it to swap with 24GiB of RAM. The swapfile size is dynamic and is negligible compared to the rest of the files on your computer. It is normal for the memory manager to move some things to swap even when the RAM isn't full. Optimally, any bit of your RAM not being used for programs should be used to cache files. No it’s not plenty the less room you have the more storage swap occurs in the storage of your SST drops not a good idea 24 GB for a max is not good 32 would’ve been nice.
You’re missing the fans for sustained “Pro” 24/7 workloads. The Air is great at bursts, like everyday people use it, of power. It’s not meant to be pushed all day long at peak with video workflows. Can someone please explain to me why anyone would want to buy the new MacBook Pro? It seems inferior to a new MacBook Air. What am I missing?
After owning the base model M1 MacBook Air, I realized 256GB for storage and 8GB of RAM is not enough at all.
I can’t wait to rectify my decisions.
Especially with a custom orderAs usual upgrade options on RAM are costly. Also with preorders opening in July, seems like delivery may be even later.

How does everyone feel about it being fanless?
My old MacBook 12 is fanless and it drove me crazy for years because it would get scorching hot (yes, scorching hot; to a point where it would burn my hand if I touched it underneath).
I wonder if the newer chipset and components solve any of this.

inferior? HowCan someone please explain to me why anyone would want to buy the new MacBook Pro? It seems inferior to a new MacBook Air. What am I missing?
I definitely notice the extra display space on the 14" MacBook Pro. The menu bar and status icons fit nicely around the notch. It's almost like having a 3:2 display.inferior? How
Pro has:
2 hour extra battery life Bigger battery (58.2 vs 52.6-watt-hour vs the air)
base has 10gpu cores /$100 upsell cost option on air which makes the air and pro the same price…
slightly Higher performance (thicc chassis plus fan cooling to keep M2 temps low for higher sustained clocks)
67W power brick standard (30w on air/67w is $20 upsell on base spec airs)
no notch
Touchbar
It would be a smarter pick to get the pro over the overpriced air, the 10 gpu air is the same price as the pro anyway so to me the pro looks like a better deal as a pure performer as most of most of the air’s so called benefits are subjective:
revised thinner design, unique new colors – you might impress npc's at the coffee shop but that's still subjective ‘benefit’ over the pro
lighter – cant see a few ounces being a deal breaker
magsafe – nice but not a must have, need to pay more apple tax if the cable breaks vs usb-c on the pro
1080p web cam (720p on pro) – not a big deal if you don’t facetime
slightly bigger screen – difference will be virtually unnoticeable especially when most apps crop out the notch anyway so screen real estate will be identical to the pro
imo the pricing of the M2 air is all wrong, It’s too expensive. The M2 air should be under $1000 as an “everyday use” laptop. Apple should’ve kept this at $999 (there is zero justification for this being 20% more expensive, doesn’t even have mini-led, multi monitor support, pro motion or big performance gains from the ‘M1.5’ chip, standard storage bump or ram increase to justify a massive 20% price hike), M1 airs should be priced 849-899 to compete with the 8gb 256gb Surface Laptop 4 which now sell under $900 .
