It's obviously a way to build hype. Do you think that one of the most advanced technology companies in the world can't make a web page live immediately? That they don't test extensively on test servers before going live?

This is marketing.

Doesn't that explanation make more sense to you?

Its so 1990's. Kinda inexcusable for the most recognized tech company in the world - dont you think?

When apple would shut down the online store in the past to 'update' it, I would say its stupid - since sites like ESPN are making updates all day long without shutting down the site.
People here would claim its to "create anticipation".

Well obviously there's no secret or suspense to be had here, so that "create anticipation" argument is clearly wrong. It was a sumb argument anyway imo.

So it begs the question for real now: why in the hell does apple need to shut down their site for little updates when every news site in the world - (amazon, kroger (you name it) - does not?!?!
I guess it's the tradition at this point (even if it sounds dumb).

Hate to see the trade in price for those folks that want to trade in their devices including the newer MacBook pros M1 Pro etc

They likely get at least $5-10M(?) worth of "free advertisement" in the media every time they do it and they likely also sell a few thousand extra units on launch day because of it.

Free money is free money :)

It certainly did make more sense until they had to take it down the other day to launch a $50 AppleTV giftcard, now i'm thinking it's some kind of weird technical limitation linked to synchronising the launch of something at the same time in all territories.

So they wanted to build hype a few days ago for a $50 Gift Card with AppleTV purchase? They shut the store down just for that.
It is tradition and a way to build hype.

I said it above... Do you really think that one of the most advanced tech companies in the world does not have test servers and does not test on that before going live?

Probably has something to do with Apple using WebKit for everything ha

For a gift card with AppleTV purchase? That's ridiculous.

I am one of the biggest Apple fanboys, and I even can't defend them for that charade if so.

Exactly, that proved it to me and clearly others. Makes no sense to say that was for hype.

Bought it by 7:02, shipping time had already slipped a week. (Starlight, 512GB HD)

Midnight fully loaded, $2,499 (8 CPU 10 GPU 24GB RAM 2TB SSD). Order placed about 5:00:15 PST. Had the item saved, used Apple Store app on iPhone, used Apple Pay with everything already saved. Couldn't have been speedier.

Shipping says delivered by Aug 2-9.
