... we're just the tip of the spear). This is why they take the site offline first.
I would counter that us macrumors regulars pretty much are the entire spear. Normal humans dont sit around looking at the apple website or even give a crap if it goes down for an hour.
Only apple geeks like us even pay attention to it, and I would submit only a fraction of macrumors regulars even give a crap.

So from my perspective, this shutting down the site stuff is inconsequential, and lame 🤗

I wonder how many iPhones they sell per day just via their online store. Could easily be a six digit number. If the store is closed, most people will wait and buy the iPhone later, but some will take the time and look for iPhone alternatives.

Even if you have to test a new version of the store before it goes online, you could do that under a subdomain like eifjrfbwjkr7i2ir53t4i74723it24342o44o.apple.com that nobody will guess even with brute force without knowing it. If it works, you can publish it on store.apple.com or whatever the URL of the store is.

I remember when I looked at the MacBook Air M1 in the online store a few months ago the ram and hard drive upgrades were $50 less than they should have been. Maybe people hack the store when there's an update? It would have be interesting to see if Apple honored the $50 decrease.

Looks like at least a hundred sites or so if you search on Google for "apple store down" and look at results from the past 24h.
Umm I just googled the same thing and mostly what shows up are sites that tell you what popular websites are currently down. Not many actual news sites that average people would come across on a regular basis
