So is the base 15" Air gonna be 8GB/256GB? Because if it starts at like $1500 I'm not sure it's worth it in this day and age with those specs. My current Air is 16GB/512GB so that's like the floor for me in an upgrade and depending on the price it might be a better proposition to seek out a 14" MBP if the right deal can be had. I thought when the M2 Airs came out I'd jump on the Midnight one right away but I couldn't justify it... it just wasn't enough of an upgrade but the 15" could certainly peak my interest if the numbers are right.

I suspect after Apple probably rolls out a surprisingly high price- not the $1199-$1399 range most seem to be expecting- there will be a LOT of this "should just get a MBpro" in the next few days.

My best guess is $1499 but basically needing +$200 to overcome the overall slowdown driven by one SSD module vs. two... so $1699. Add at least one tier of RAM upgrade too and it's at $1899 at which BOTH sizes of MBpro can be had from third party sales.

I'll hope the very hopeful are right about $1199-$1399 but my gut says Apple will choose the extra profit opportunity on pent-up demand instead of pricing it based on working from the existing 13" price + about $200 for a bigger screen.

But won't that clash with MBpro pricing? Yes, just like upper spec Mini clashes with lower spec Studio for months now. Apple can "fix" this problem by jacking the M3 MBpros when they launch. A clue to that will be if Studio "fixes" the clash with Mini today if released/announced.

We're only hours from finding out.

They really, really, really, really, really need to announce a larger iMac.

Sooner or later, I think this happens... likely branded PRO and "starting at..." about TWICE the price we remember. How do I get that? They just rolled out iMac 27" MINUS the computer, keyboard and mouse and sold that for the FULL "starting at..." price of the former "whole" iMac... if not a bit more than that.

Now add IN the computer + keyboard + mouse and put the costs of those pieces on top of Studio Display. When I do that math, I get to about $3499 as the iMac Pro "starting at..." price, that goes north of $4K when nicely configured above minimal specs.

For all the people who post in all threads with this wish, I wonder how many are hoping for the relative "bargain" that was iMac 27" and if their want changes with the realization that price will likely be much higher?

Doubt it? Refer back to the prior incarnation of iMac Pro and check that pricing. If iMac "Bigger" rises from the dead, that's the template I 99% expect.

I’m curious if Apple has any idea how many of these headsets they’re going to sell. I wonder if pre-orders before mass production help gauge estimates so they don’t overshoot upon entering a new market.

I guess they do this as a hype thing, but one of these days I expect a trillon dollar company to not close down their store when it's a big event day.

was $3k leaked so $2k will look like more of a bargain?

Most interesting reveal in awhile. I am totally not a believer in VR taking off anytime soon. I don't mind mind being wrong. but I just don't see it.

Honestly, I’m really just looking forward to see a preview of iOS 17. The AR/VR headset doesn’t interest me in the least bit, but that’s just me.

From a prior rumor, something like half a million. As the rumored intent of this device is for companies to use to develop and produce content for an upcoming consumer priced device, that sounds about right.

Which makes no sense to me. Consumers aren’t going to avoid this device because they think a consumer priced device is coming later. That isn’t how Apple works.

The best moment in WWDC history. This Apple dude bumbling and stumbling after the crowd reacts to the bonkers pricing for the Mac Pro stand. So quintessentially Apple. I laughed so hard.

Maybe not today but - just as they don't sell 4GB/128GB Macs anymore - at some stage Apple will have to drop the 8/256 machines and start everything at 16/512. Apart from it looking bad compared to the competition (most comparable PC laptops, with LPDDR RAM and PCIe SSDS, start with 16/512 these days), as the rest of the industry stops using such small chips they'll end up disproportionately expensive c.f. larger ones (that's probably behind gimping the hard drive speed in the M2 MBA - cheaper to put a single 256GB chip than two 128GBs that would use the full bandwidth) - and with the larger RAM sizes on M2/M3 SoCs there will be a logistical saving if they only have to make 2 sizes of each SoC package rather than 3 or 4.

If you need the bigger screen, the only alternative is the 16" MBP starting at $2500, so there's plenty of space to fit in a price point the 15" Air.

The obvious slot for the 15" Air would be to "replace" the 13" M2 MBP (I put "replace" in quotes because the junior 13" MBP slot seems to have lead a charmed existence since 2016, so I wouldn't count it out).

The low/mid-end laptops sell by the truckload and Apple doubtless has a very nice margin on them, so this is all about strategic pricing and won't have a lot to do with the "bill of materials".

I'm so excited for a $5,000 device that lets me see stuff flying around. /s
Please note. Tim Apple. Timothy Leary got there first...no need for $3,000 hardware. :p

The more I thought about it this weekend the more I think Apple could really shake-up the bottom end of their laptop line-up. Think about the 13 inch MBP. It needs a major update, and WWDC would be a great place to announce one. We’ll know soon enough.

I've always thought that it makes Apple look incompetent to have to bring down the whole store to update it. Can't imagine why they can't have everything set up beforehand and then switch on the various new products as they are being announced on stage.
I think it’s all marketing to help build the hype for new products. They don’t have to bring the store down, but they do it to build anticipation.
