Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of Apple Event Today, Apple Silicon Macs Expected to Debut

Got all the Christmas shopping done with a little left over, so I'm also ready to buy if what they sell lives up to my relatively meager expectations

As someone who was there for the PowerPC to Intel transition, I am super excited to see what they’ve cooked up. I’ve no need to upgrade my 16” MBP just yet, but if Logic Pro X, my interface, and all my plug-ins would work day one, it would be tempting.

I'm surprised at the number of people who immediately want to order an ARM based Mac.

Unless people absolutely need it, I would wait for awhile to see if there are any major bugs with this major hardware redesign.

Apple has had 10+ years of ARM experience. I don't plan on using a new ARM Mac for any critical daily work. Think of it more as an opportunity to have a hands-on view of the future of computing, vs. being frustrated with random beach balls and random chassis heat-ups of the Intel-based Macs.

I think you really need to be there on day one for this.

Exactly right. I see no reason to be concerned about jumping on board this transition from day one. Apple know what they are doing, and they have more experience than anyone of successfully executing it.

Not happening.

13" pro and standard MacBooks.
Might see a minor A14 spec bump ipad Pro too.

Doubt we'll even see AirTags.
Something strange is Bloomberg confirmed 16" ARM today. They rarely get stuff wrong so I wonder if we'll get the 16".

I just look at the T2 fiasco.

The T2 is ARM and it took Apple a couple of years to iron out the issues.

I guess we will be able to order them today!
I was just trying to remember if they ever take the store down "just because" or if this means they are adding new products to order?

Leaks have been few & far between. The most recent rumours from Mark Gurman suggests we'll see Apple talk about two 13" laptops and a 16" one (which is behind the 13s in production).

Consensus is that we won't see any external design changes.

Gurman also mentioned Apple are working on a physically smaller version of the Mac Pro, based on the same design language as the current one.

MacBook Pros are currently on 1-2 week delivery time from Apple Stores whereas MacBook Airs are still available immediately.

New iMac is rumoured for next year and the transition will take two years to complete.

My outside hope is that there is a new design of laptop to mark the move to Apple Silicon, but that's looking less and less likely!

Not everything is about efficiency, not even at Apple. Sometimes companies keep some of their traditions. In this case I think it's a mix to prevent orders of other items, hype, and tradition.
Yes and I bet they also don't want to spoil whether there'll be a product that you can buy immediately.

Yeah, cause they had to bolt on T2 to the horse-and-buggy of Intel! :D

I have a couple of T2 Macs, and yes, I occasionally have issues. But it's because of integration with non-Apple designed components. My iPads/iPhones are really rock solid, and I expect that from ARM Macs.

Really curious on how the speed compares. Will probably order one just to do some tests and see how it holds up.

Today marks the beginning of the end of the Hackintosh era. I am a bit saddened by it. I am excited for the new hardware as Arm processors becoming mainstream for non-mobile devices. But as someone who has since 2007 been messing around with Hackintoshing, I'm gonna miss it when Apple decides to drop Intel support.

Considering Blackmagic have just released their new Davinci Resolve 17, I’m hoping they didn’t mention compatibility with Apple Silicon because Apple will show it running at the event. If not then I may just buy a new MacBook Pro 16” as DR17 looks amazing and no way I’m waiting potentially months/a year for them to make it AS friendly. If Apple showcase DR running then I’m ready to buy today.

If new Macs come out today and have better battery life I'm probably buying. I need a new machine for Logic and I'd be happy to have some of my iOS/iPadOS apps on my Mac.

I highly doubt that Apple will show off a competing product to Final Cut Pro or iMovie at this event.
