Does this mean a completely new redesign? The current MacBooks are still based on the 2007 (or 2008?) MacBook pros. I like all the revisions since then but it’d be interesting to see something new.

It will be an epic fail if battery life is not at least +50%

It will be called an epic fail if a lot of things don’t work the way some posters want:

Battery Life

Software Availability in ARM compatible format.

Lack of updated computer model styles.

No or limited VM capacity.

I didn’t go through the PowerPC to Intel transition, but I was following along because I intended to switch if the system seemed stable and programs worked. That was not the case at first, but I waited a year and a half before I bought my first Mac computer.

I will wait and see what the reaction is to these new computers, what they do well, what they don’t and what software is available and how well it works.

And if I don’t like where things are going I’ll start looking at Intel/AMD based systems and OS’s. I don’t expect to make a quick decision but if things aren’t considered better by experts and users well Apple isn’t paying me anything to remain locked to their philosophy.

no ipad pros...it is for sure the ipad pro will be for march event with mini-led and A14X (not the A14)
'Fraid to say, but I'm guessing yes. The 2020 iPP was available in the education offer with free airpods & as of yesterday shipping was 2/3 weeks on apple and amazon. Amazon UK is now out of stock. I'd said in another thread it could just be due to shortages in LiDAR modules, but I reckon the real reason it was held back is that the processor is the same beast that powers the new MacBooks due to be announced.

Again, this is nuts...IF they do not have something to order or pre-order....like they did with the first and second events..
Why shut down the store when you just add new pages for the new products that will be available to pre-order a week from now for example and then again, stores down

Likely because you're not aware of the larger picture.

The rumormongers say it will be the same design. Perhaps its Apple way of saying it does the same things your old one did just with different internals.

Its possible. However on a recent Linus Tech Tips episode they broke down the new Macbook Air. What they found was that the inside was incongruent for an Intel CPU. The way the thermals were set up left him to believe that the 2020 Macbook Air was designed for Apple Silicon.

Very excited to see some real world comparisons to intel. I hope they show that in the video. Would be pretty impactful I think.

It’s not like someone who wants to buy an iPhone 12 mini or pro max will go to samsung website to order galaxy phone instead because the apple store is down for 5 hours.

I'm surprised at the number of people who immediately want to order an ARM based Mac.

Unless people absolutely need it, I would wait for awhile to see if there are any major bugs with this major hardware redesign.
If everyone thinks the same like you do. There’ll be no sales at all, means no iphone 3g, ipad 2, watch series 2 etc and their successors.

Just let them be the guinea pigs and we sit back with popcorns on hand.

I’m in a similar boat to you. I ordered the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and LOVED it but returned it and preordered the iPhone 12 Pro Max as it makes sense to stay all Apple BUT if this arm max is the same design, similar performance and software isn’t easily made to work then I think I will be cancelling my 12 pro max preorder, reordering the fold 2 and looking at the new AMD 5950x and building myself a PC.

My ❤️ and my 💰 are ready but I hope to get all my apps updated to native immediately or real soon.

Any app that isn't updated in a reasonable timeframe should be abandoned. Devs can't expect customers to sit around and wait for too long. This transition is too important.

This whole taking the store offline thing is not because they need to, but because they want to.
Of course an IT company like Apple is capable of updating it's store without downtime.
They use this gimmick purely to draw attention to the event.

Not happening.

13" pro and standard MacBooks.
Might see a minor A14 spec bump ipad Pro too.

Doubt we'll even see AirTags.
LOL.

Bloomberg literally reported a week ago that 16" MBP was part of this first wave. And literally no one ever has said a spec bump iPad Pro was coming.

Apple showcased Microsoft Office at an event. They make their own equivalent (Pages, Keynote etc). Plus this isn’t like a usual event. Apple want people to jump to arm. I don’t think they are naive enough to not show a product and think that people don’t already know about that product anyway.

Not really the same, Apple gives away iWork and it doesn’t really compete with Microsoft Office the same way DaVinci competes with Final Cut. The Mac almost needs Office to be in most professional environments and higher education that’s why they showed it off running on Apple silicon. Not so much for DaVinci, that’s also why you see Apple showing off Photoshop but not Premier.
