In a bold move, Apple goes back to its roots to resurrect the PowerBook name and after almost 20 years, it’s finally happening, the PowerBook G5.

(I couldn’t help myself)
Yeah, because "EfficientBook" just doesn't have the same ring. :)

Personally, I'm hoping for "PowerBook 5G". (Both because it is funny and I desperately want the implied functionality.)

I'm surprised at the number of people who immediately want to order an ARM based Mac.

Unless people absolutely need it, I would wait for awhile to see if there are any major bugs with this major hardware redesign.
It also depends on circumstances.

I currently don’t have a laptop (I decided to try doing without one and using the iPad instead, but it hasn’t really worked).

If I had a laptop then I would probably wait until next year, but instead I have been putting off the purchase waiting for ARM Macs. I really don’t want to wait another 6+ months so will be ordering as soon as I can.

If they then release a really nice upgrade next year then I may end up taking a loss on this one and upgrading, but I still prefer that to waiting.

No last minute leaks as yet. Can Apple hold out for another 3 and a half hours before their day is torpedoed by whoever the insider is....

Again, this is nuts...IF they do not have something to order or pre-order....like they did with the first and second events..
Why shut down the store when you just add new pages for the new products that will be available to pre-order a week from now for example and then again, stores down
For the wow affect

I dunno about that. Apple may release these new products with a cheaper price tag as a way to draw in skeptics of the Intel to Apple Silicon move. We shall see.
I think the price is the real unknown to be revealed today. I don’t really have a clue how they are going to position then relative to the current lineup.

Hopefully they do as you say. :)

Something strange is Bloomberg confirmed 16" ARM today. They rarely get stuff wrong so I wonder if we'll get the 16".
While I really want to be able to purchase a new AS Mac today, I don't know if I'd be willing to invest so much $ in a day one 16" that most people probably keep for at least 4-5 years. It's going to be a bumpy road over the next year as we wait for all the 3rd party apps to trickle in, such as VLC, Handbrake, VPN Clients etc... Yes, Apple will have all their software ready, but I do think it'll take at least 6 more months to get all the small 3rd party apps we use ported over (Natively). That said, I will invest in a MB, Air or even a 13" Pro if one is released today. I work in the tech industry so I'm anxious to get my feet wet in AS and test things out.

I highly doubt that Apple will show off a competing product to Final Cut Pro or iMovie at this event.
Agree 100%. Apple isn't going to show off how great Davinci runs on AS lol... Final Cut and iMovie for sure. But I do use Davinci so hopefully it's not too long before we get a native copy on AS.

Possibly but perhaps they may want to show how good Apple Silicon is and how easy it is to take an amazing piece of software and get it working on AS in a matter of days/weeks?

Not surprised at all. There will most certainly be millions sold over the next few months. I mean, if there WEREN’T going to be, then there wouldn’t even be a release :)

Again, why would they show off a competing product? That would be like Adobe showing off Pixelmator.

Apple showcased Microsoft Office at an event. They make their own equivalent (Pages, Keynote etc). Plus this isn’t like a usual event. Apple want people to jump to arm. I don’t think they are naive enough to not show a product and think that people don’t already know about that product anyway.

Hey, I’m good with cellular wireless being on this thing!

Why not? Whether Final Cut Pro or Resolve, you’re buying a Mac to run it sooooo, I don’t think Apple would mind folks buying a Mac and running non-Apple products :)

UPDATE: Showed off DaVinci Resolve ;)
