I know it’s kind of a mean thing to say, but I wish they would decrease the hold time on the phones especially with the shortage. Just drop it from 14 days to 7 days.

That I was actually surprised about when I went to pick mine up. More than likely they don't want to create a mess if/when stock normalizes.

Very helpful, thanks!

My closest Apple Store has 512GB and 1TB now, I plan to continue checking until I can pick up a 256GB for both myself and my wife (13 Pro Max).

The 256GB seems to be the most difficult to find, but I'm not in any particular hurry.

By hold time, do you mean that if I grab one of the iPhones that my local store shows as available, then I have up to X number of days to pick it up? I didn't know that it could be up to 14 days, is that what it is currently?

Yes, if you do store pickup, they give you up to 14 days to pick up the phone.

Do you know - is there a difference in a new phone that is unlocked vs associated with AT&T or one of the other carriers?

I'm just wanting to give myself the best chance to grab one as it appears at one of the stores, and not sure if it makes any difference if I am searching for an 'AT&T phone' or an unlocked phone?

Thanks!

ATT phones are usually locked. If it's paid off, then they will unlock it for you. But they're the exact same when unlocked

Thanks. But to make sure I understand correctly - if I purchase from the Apple store rather than from AT&T, then I can pay it off to Apple and from the point of view of AT&T it is simply a paid off phone that I'm providing for my account. So I don't have any obligation for any period of time with AT&T and I could switch carriers at any time without having to pay off an AT&T balance. Is that correct?

Apple gives the choice of payment arrangement to Apple, or to AT&T. Or pay it off in cash all at once, of course.

Yes. If you're in anyway financing through the carrier, it essentially belongs to the carrier. But if you buy the phone in cash or via Apple Card, you can bring it to any carrier.

Now, the one caveat is that most carrier phones are in some way locked. Even if you buy it from T-Mobile, it'll be locked for 30-60 days.

When do you think the stock will be normalized? It's been over a month since the release day, and while the stock for the 13 and mini is somehow sufficient, I can't seem to find any Pro available in Miami. I was hoping a friend could buy me one since she is traveling to Miami in a week, but with this delay I'm afraid that's not going to be possible

With the exception of one 128GB Gold, it was all Sierra Blue last night.
It's funny because yesterday I was driving to target for an errand in the morning and I saw a Fedex Freight Truck, Since I know my place. it usually stops behind the Apple Store. Sure enough 30 minutes later, all the iPhone 13 models showed available for in-store pick up. But of course it was gone within couple of hours.

I didn’t see anything available at all using iphonechecker.herokuapp.com and the App Store app. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible that there were no T-Mobile specific phones?

I’m trying to buy an unlocked phone so that’s what my settings are on. I just keep hitting the check another store link and that’s how I’ve seen stock pop up.

They seem to be pumping out iPhone 13’s a lot faster that iPhone 13 Pro’s, even the delivery time is a lot shorter.

I meant to say Pro maxes. I seem to notice that they seem to pump out the 13 pro maxes more than just the pro’s.

Also I think that may have to do with lesser demand. I think most are going for the pro and pro maxes, which is why they are 4-5 weeks out oppose the the non pro’s 2-3 weeks.

I’m totally thanking you right now. I read your comment and I was switched back to the app to check on the Pro Max stock, and a Gold 256 Pro popped up.

Gold pops up mostly at World Trade Center, Grand Central or Williamsburg. The stock runs out in less than 10 minutes. Even the 1 TB ones.

I haven’t seen it pop up at any of the stores you listed, but I guess it depends on when we look.
