There is hardly anything open in Soho after 1pm - don't count on anything opening till about 10am, Regent Street is chaos on a Friday night - there is a high likelihood of being urinated on by passing drunks (not to mention the abuse that will be hurled at you) there won't be any public conveniences - the nearest loo closes about 11pm, there is a high likelihood of you getting arrested by police for loitering and you'll probably get filmed for the news with a whole bunch of geeks you really didn't want to associate with.

Cool, sounds good. You can definetly count me in then. Oh and you forgot to mention it'll be freezing cold too. Saying there will be "hardly anything open in Soho after 1pm" implies that there will be some things open.

The police won't do anything about loitering if the Apple crowd is well bahaved. They'll be more concerned with the passing drunks that will be throwing things and hurling abuse at the Apple gatherers. 😉

You know, if someone was planning on showing up on the Saturday morning and wanted to put people off queuing, this is just the sort of thing they ought to join the forums specifically to post... 'Cos it's either that, or you're *remarkably* pessimistic.

Heheh.. fair point... I may queue in the morning for a free shirt, but I'll be spending the night at home in a warm bed thx 🙂

Bad day, huh? 🙄

He he... I hope more posts like that are posted. 😀

I can't make it until Saturday.... 😉

Ah, well - do stop by to say hi and admire our collection of urine stains. 🙂

now how many items do you think will be in a bag, if we knew then we could work out the items that everyone must get.

Just came from the store. Iseenoevil is already queuing. I think he just arrived as while I was there the Apple top brass (one of the guys in the pics in the previous post) came out and spoke to him and took his picture. I'll be showing up some time tomorrow.

It's cold and very wet on Regent St at the moment. Tomorrow is likely to be at least 5 degrees colder, but hopefully dry.

been there

Just been talking to iseenoevil. (blob on the right)

Store looks great, and it is very wet out there

Well, we've done spreadsheets by price - if someone wants to figure out volumes, go right ahead... Any one know the comparative sizes of the iPod and iPod mini boxes? 🙂

Now that is dedication... I'll be there sometime around midnight on Friday night, so will be half camping out.

Seems there are plenty of people commited to camping out, just hope there aren't more than 300 of you there by 5am. If it wasn't the end of November I would probably have been there with you, I don't know how cold it is going to be for you guys! I am worried how cold it's going to be at 5am when I'm planning to get there. I think I'll wear my snowboard pants and jacket to keep warm!

Heya guys,
Long time lurker here, just checking in to say I'll see you in the queue somewhere around 4am. We're out partying around Soho just before then, so I'll try not to be too drunk 😱

Hi all. I'll be out after work nearby Friday having a few beers until closing time, then will probably rest up in my warm office 🙂 for a few hours, keeping an eye on the queue on thru ifostore/stormyshippy if I can. I can walk from my office to Regent St in about 15 minutes tops so I should be able to get in the holy grail of the first 300/lucky bag ok. Any of you youngsters coming up that don't know London, I am sure you will all be fine on Regent St, especially with an event like this going on. Regent St is not a Soho crack den, despite posts to the contrary!

We need more insane campers!!

Theres only about 8 of us at the moment plus iseenoevil whos theres already (think he should be given a medal!!)

Good to hear...i was getting a little worried!

Wow, its harsh.

It is quite harsh out here! I had to pack up my things at 5:00pm and head to Cafe Nero to go to the restroom and change into much much warmer clothes. Time sure does pass by slowly out here all by my lonesome. Hopefully Thomas will show up soon.

Well, you can check out my updates on http://www.stormyshippy.com/. Be warned though, that with the weather, I can only update intermittenly. If more people show up and I can take a break here and there I may be able to post more. Heres to hoping the rain stops!

i'm outside the apple store now and i can confirm there is a wireless netwark and it's damn fast T1 style 😀

hey iseenoevil where the hell are you?

edit: he's here now 😀

Camping equipment

I'm packing my bag ready for tomorrow. So far I have -

Bivy bag (for sleeping in)
Long underwear (bought today at M&S after reading the weather forecast)
Camera
Minidisc player +discs
Phone
Cushion (for sitting on)
Book: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (for reading or sitting on)
Book: Perdido Street Station (as above)
Wooly jumper
Wooly hat
Hooded Fleece
Small bottle of JD (for central heating)
Credit card (probably a good idea to remember that)
Cash (for coffee)
3 packs of Marlboro (like he said, time goes real slow when you're queuing)
Blanket
Washbag (just to freshen up in the morning)

I don't own a sleeping bag, but I've never had a problem falling asleep in worse conditions and if the worst comes to the worst I have friends who live a short distance away who I can call to bring a sleeping bag in an emergency.

Anyone think of anything else I should pack? I've probably forgotten something obvious.

My wife works 5 minutes away so she will be bringing food and drink regularly, and my office is only 1 Tube stop away so I guess some of my colleagues will come and gawk at my misery.
