Can I assume, the only people likely to get a chance at the lucky bags are the people that camp out. Think someone there at 10:00am would have a chance?

None whatsoever!

Not a hope in all probability - although you may get one by just turning up v early on Saturday morning. I believe in the past that you'd have had to be there by midnight in Japan and 5am in SF

you have to weight up the factors
1. British likes queues, we queue for everything....
2. It's rather cold and it's going to be colder, so less people will be queuing tonight, I think that around 3am ish and you will get a LB, but don't quote me on that and it may be earlier or later

According to ifoAppleStore there were 192 people in the queue for the Ginza store at 8am on the opening morning. By 9am there were 705 in the queue.

I'm planning on getting there at about 5:30-5:45am tomorrow, with my daughter, nephew and friends son to keep me company. If Hector has set up some MoH:AA multiplayer via the stores Airport network I'll join in and get myself killed a few times...

ok will look out for you, you look like che right?
do
you think you will be playing games then? rather than talking... I should have looked out a book to read. I would say look out for someone in a denim jacket with a 6 colour apple on the back, but since that will under a ski jacket, you won't see it. just look for the guy in a woolly hat with lamas on the side (peruvian lama, as opposed to dala lamas.

I thought it better to leave the mac at home tonight, I will bring a hd packed with music and audio books (so we could have a bedtime story, as we freeze various bits off, dreaming of our beds and being tucked up nice and cozy (hey who's idea was it to sit outside a store in london all night long?)
People think I am completely barmy!

we could have a mac quiz!

i dont particularly look like che, but i'm easy enough to spot i'll be wearing a green army type jacket (nato type) i'm eating lunch and then i'm leaveing

I'm just setting off from work now, should be there around 2-3 pm so I'll see everyone whos coming there. Have a good one!

1pm

Hello all,

I've just AIM'd the chap from ifoAppleStore. He reports about 18-20 people there at 1pm. He seems a thoroughly decent fellow, btw.

I'm going to try and be with all you intrepid overnighters between 4-5am. Fingers-crossed, that should still be early enough for a chance at a Lucky Bag.

Best wishes to all the revellers!

Al

Parking cheaply near Regent Street?

OK, so I park up at 3 or 4am and come and join the crowd. But where do I park? I'm OK on single yellows until 8.30 .... hmmm, that's not much good. What about parking meters? Does anyone know if the meters are intelligent enough to not start the clock until the parking restrictions are in force? How long can I park at a meter? What denomination coin do the meters take?

Lots of questions for my first post .... and completely un-Mac related! Thank you for any replies to these.

Anyway, hello, my name is Justin, thank you for allowing me to join this Mac addict support group group ;-) I'm a Linux-aholic who has just bought two Macs (well, one for the graphics dept at work and one for my wife) a dual 2Ghz G5 with 2GB RAM (I am *so* jealous) and an G4 iBook - the little one with the 12" screen.

What time GMT is it opening on the 21st

Are you serious?

The grand opening is the 20th (tomorrow) at 10am.
However it does open at 12 noon on the 21st.

You won't get a lucky bag on Sunday.

if you go to the uk store links on the apple site, they have 8 car parks listed, don't forget to pay the congestion charges (if applicable, don't know if it works on Sat)

If anyone is thinking of driving I had a look around today and found some free Saturday parking on meters not too far from Regent Street.

In the area around Petty France/Victoria Station/Scotland Yard there are several streets with meters that are free on Saturday, including Caxton Street, Queen Annes Gate and Old Queen Street. The nearest tube stations are St. James's Park and Westminster, but using either of those would involve a change at either Embankment or Victoria to get to Regent Street. Lower Regent Street is just a short walk across St James' Park though, so I'm going to walk it. I plan on parking up at about 5:45 am on Saturday.
😀

None of the parking on the Apple map will be free - you'll have to start paying at 08:30 on the meters and I think they charge £4.00 per hour with a limit of 2 hours. The car parks charge by the hour and are generally cheaper than meters but will charge you from the time you enter until the time you leave. If you're getting there early expect to pay for maybe 6 to 7 hours worth of parking.

I was aiming to get there at about 12 midnight but now I am thinking about going up now :O

Thing is a load of people may get there after work, which could push it over the 300 mark!

Was planning on leaving my house at around 6/7 am. Would that be tooooo late? 😕

I suspect that the campers and people catching 5am trains aren't going to come to that big a number. Whether 150 or 250 people all converge on the Store as the first trains start running is pure guesswork. But if I had *any* ability to get up that early in the morning, I'd probably be aiming for a train before 7 and expecting to have good odds of getting a bag. Might be wrong, though. 🙂

I'm getting paranoid of people reading this and going up now like I am!

With people getting out of work and the die hards already there you could hit the 300 before too long

Wow, jeez. Leaving already. Would be great if you had some way of keeping us updated with numbers. 😀

Anyway, what are the chances of all the bags having the 10% off card? My friend is planning on buying a powerbook and if there is a 10% card in it, she'll definitely go.
