I called a few northern NJ stores. They definitely got a shipment of iPads today, but the number and variety seemed to be quite limited. Everything sold out quickly. The number that are being delivered seems to be small and what would be expected for normal deliveries in a few months when interest dies down. They don't seem to be trying to replenish stock adequately to meet the current demand and obvious interest.

Bridgewater had them, apparently, but ran out of stock quickly. Menlo Park in Edison, NJ said they weren't getting a shipment today. I'm beginning to think I'll get mine in the mail before they get their next shipment.

I was in line this morning at the Polaris store in Columbus Ohio. It was at least 100 - 200 people deep by 9am. I was around 50th or more. By the time they got half way to me they already said they only had Verizon WiFi left. None in just WiFi or AT&T. I'll try my luck again tomorrow at the Easton store maybe..

I know it's against the free-market and all that crap, but it really annoys me when people buy something that everybody wants simply to resell it later. ps3, xbox, iphone, ipad, tickle-me-elmo, whatever.

I know they wont but they could have a line for people who are going to buy an ipad and have it setup in-store. Which means, opening the package and turning the ipad on. Which I imagine would make it harder to resell in another country, and I'd bet some resellers wouldn't be willing to do.

Again though, it'll never happen, money is money and apple doesn't care if you buy 5 ipads and light them on fire in front of the people in line waiting to buy ipads.

LOL so I left the Apple Store because they ran out. Randomly walked in a Target store and walked out with a 32gb AT&T model in white :)

Target seems like the most reliable place to score a lucky one mid-day. Got a 32GB Black Wi-Fi on Monday in Rockaway NJ.

I arrived at Willowbrook Mall (Wayne NJ) this morning to get in line behind 40 people at 8:45AM. They ran out of wi-fi models pretty quickly and had only a few Verizon models left by the time I got to the door.

I think I'll try Garden State Plaza tomorrow.

It's the most popular model with resellers since it is unlocked and can work almost anywhere in the world (GSM radio).

Yes, that explains why they would be sold out quickly, but the stores I've been to (Chicago Apple Stores) aren't even getting the stock in and I'm also wondering why. Lincoln Park store also had everything in today except for ATT.

I wonder why there are limited AT&T models.

It seems to me that the stores simply aren't getting many AT&T models shipped to them, rather than that they are the ones selling first. I would think that this is because Apple is trying to divert stock for the international releases. As someone mentioned, they're GSM and are actually usable outside of the US. As much as resellers may know this, so does Apple, and they'll have to have a large quantity of them set aside if they want to launch internationally in nine days.

I got to the Modesto,CA store at 6:30am and had 14 people ahead of me. Rep came out at 8:00 and started going down the line. They received no 32gb, no 64gb wifi and had maybe 10 16gb black wifi.

I really wish they would tell you what is available the night before. I called and they said they had stock but couldn't tell me what specifically they had. Seems like the big flaw in the release has been too many models to choose from. Still confused why they cannot open the shipment until the morning of.

Let the hunt continue......

Good idea, although they already have the 2 iPad limit - assuming this is to deal with the reseller issue.

Showed up at Sherman Oaks, CA store this morning around 8:45 (store opens at 9) and already about 25-30 people in line. The employees came out and told us they had limited supply and would hand out tickets for the models available. I was near the end and was able to snag a 16GB wifi black, all is good for me. :)

For more stock and selection, the employee recommended coming back tomorrow morning as they think they will get more shipment in today.

The employee that helped me today said they imposed a one-per-customer limit today and I assume for the rest of the mornings like this, which I think is good.

OOooo not good for me. Need to pick up one for my parents too. Now I'll have to choose.

I stopped by the UTC store in San Diego at around 8:20. Tickets were handed out at around 7:30 according to the guy opening the door.

It appears that there were many Verizon units because the tickets are being sold on craigslist.

if they want to launch internationally in nine days.

Wow I didn't realize the international launch was that close. Kind of makes you wonder they must be real low on inventory, there are tons of people who still haven't gotten their ipad, AND an international launch in 9 days? Makes sense in that I have seen what seems to be plenty of verizon and wifi only models and have 3 times waited in line and passed them up, but I have yet to see an ATT model in stock.

So what are the chances of stores actually getting shipments every night to sell in the morning? I really would rather not wait until April 15th for mine or pay a ridiculous amount on eBay.

Went to the NYC UWS (67th and Broadway) store this morning at 7:10am for the 9:00am open. About 50 people ahead of me and it was raining pretty hard. Around 8:30 they opened the doors early and started moving the line indoors to get people out of the rain. They also started checking people out at 8:30.

Original report was Verizon and wifi only as we were walking in…as I was waiting in line they continued to update everyone on what they had left. 16 and 32 gig wifi sold out quickly after. Every single person was buying two (except for one lady that walked out with what appeared to just be a mouse and keyboard).

By the time I reached the front I was able to grab a 32gb black Verizon 3G and a 16gb white Verizon 3G. The employee was extremely friendly and said they will expect to get additional shipments in each day, except Sunday. When I left there were a good 200-300 people still wrapped through the store and out the side of the building. I would guess about 30 more people were actually able to purchase one based on how the stock was draining.

I would say go a little before 6 if you want your choice of model. 7 if you are looking for anything. Good luck.

Whats the deal with F'n NY getting so many iPad's everyday?

Whats the deal with F'n NY getting so many iPad's everyday?

Its their main East coast store and in case you didn't know it, NYC is one really big city - probably getting less units per capita than most stores in the flyover parts of the country.
