I am starting to wonder if this is a giant hoax and whether or not there really is such a device known as the ipad2... I haven't seen one!

Yeah, once the stores sold out of the iPhone 4 they took a waiting list where they would e-mail / call you once they have one for you. I would think doing this would be easier then having hundreds of people line up everyday and keep coming into the store asking questions. Maybe because the shipments are so limited they don't want to bother though?

It's not Apple's fault that hundreds of people lined up today. This was all drummed up by the rumor mills. An earlier reply here from somebody even stated that after being told by the Apple Store employee that there would be no iPads today, he was going to stay because he didn't believe him. What's the big deal about getting one at the store? What a waste of time. It took me 3 minutes to order mine online through the Apple Store iPhone app.

only 9

went to my local apple store this morning(mall of GA in lawrenceville, Ga) store opens at 9am and was told they only received 9 iPad2 for today.

My local Apple store opened today at 9AM. They said they didn't have any iPads in stock and weren't getting any today. People were pissed so they handed out tickets to everyone to write their name, phone number, what model they wanted and e-mail and they said they would call us once our iPad arrived and then we had 24 hours to pick it up.

Stopped at Columbia, MD store on way to work. No one there when I got there, so I assumed I either got luck, or they're all gone. Woman at door said they only had 2 this morning, but more are coming today that will be for sale tomorrow. So I guess when they get stock, they save them for the next morning, instead of selling them that same day. She did say the people that got the 2 today were at the mall since before 6:00AM. Crazy. I'll just wait for the one I ordered Friday morning to ship.

Crabtree Apple Store had limited selection....

Was #3 in line this AM and about 720am, an employee popped out and said they had ZERO iPads for sale and that shipments could come at any time.

About an hour later a different employee came out and said they were taking only one customer at a time. The manager also said that even though they were set to open at 9am, that they would start taking care of people early so as to not waste anyone's time.

When I got in, they only had VERY, VERY limited quantities. NO 3G, NO 64GB, only 16 & 32GB WIFI.

The manager told the first person buying that the stock they had was left over from Friday's launch.

As an aside, the local Target had a couple in stock... makes me wish I didn't get up at 5am to wait in line at the Apple store!

Good luck everyone.

OH yeah, I'm in Raleigh, NC

I'm in line here at Fashion Valley (first). So far no one has come out to tell us there are no iPads. There's a sign but we are ignoring it :)
About 5 people in line as of 7:20PST

which store? how pissed? wondering how big of a scene has to be made to allow basically reservations like this...

Both stores in the Sacramento area (Arden and Roseville) are opening early, but Arden said it's "unlikely" they will have iPads and Roseville said it's "possible" but they may not know until 10 am.

I thought those were very odd answers. I decided I'm not taking two hours out of my busy work day based on this. They very well could have instituted an "open early regardless" policy with no idea whether they'd have anything to sell. Screw that. I've got one on order that delivers in four weeks or less and I'm just going to cool my heals and find some patience. Four weeks will go faster than I think.

In other words, I've found sanity (though I will still be checking stock status at my local Best Buy from time to time).

Anyone lining up at the Roseville Galleria store yet? I'm trying to gauge whether it would be too late if I headed down there around 8:30am.

Wow you people are insane. LMAO

Store puts up a sign "No iPads" and still you stand there in disbelief? LMAO

So much for the theory of evolution.

I know it's stupid to spend more money, but at least the 3G can function as a WiFi model. It's a solution for some, but I know the extra money makes it wasteful. Helps resell a bit, but not the entire $130.

Phoned this morning to the Broadway store in NY (08:30am), they told me they got a shipment in, but there was a huge line already, so wasnt worth for me to take chances...then I headed to the 5th avenue (09:00am), there was already a long line, and the clerk told me that they were expecting shipment to arrive but they were sold out at that time

Hope this helps

Anyone still in line in NY?..any word?

I probably would've gotten one if they'd been AT&T, that way if I didn't feel like I really needed the 3G after all, I'd sell it. It just doesn't seem like the Verizon ones are selling that well, and I didn't want to get stuck with it.

batching for next day

One of the apple employees at the store I was at essentially confirmed what everyone else has been saying...that the new policy is that they aren't selling as shipments come in. They are batching them for the following morning. This was mentioned as a "new policy".

Believe what you wish...but this came directly from an employee. So my strategy will be to call the night before they close, get an indication of whether or not a shipment came in, and go from there.

FedEx (Apple's main shipping company) delivers starting closer to 10am in most locations. Yes there may be a "No iPads" sign at 8 or 9 am but with a delivery coming within an hour or so, that can change.

Apple store employees freely admit they have no control over inventory and no idea what will come in the next shipment.
