My 8:30AM pickup was one of the orders delayed, I received the email from Apple at 12:23AM. No update since.

Interestingly, my Apple Watch order shipped, UPS says it will be delivered by “end of day”, but the tracking shows it left China today. Very weird.
I legit walked into Verizon at 8am in Jacksonville, FL and got a XS Max Silver 256gb. Only 2 people in line.

When the products were shipping from a country that got slammed by a terrible typhoon, yeah, I think that's pretty impressive. Sounds like most are still getting devices today, just a little delayed in shipping to the stores.

Except production of these products started over a month ago, so Apple had plenty of time to stage their distribution in the USA, which they would have done had they not wanted to sacrifice any of their precious profit margin.

Good thing Apple has a logistics expert as their CEO.

For sure on that. On a normal day, on average, Apple manufactures and ships roughly 600,000 iPhones, every day of the year.. Plus a boatload of Macs, iPads, Watches, Homepods, etc.

I suspect that number is far greater during a new product rollout.

A huge hat-tip to Mr. Cook for creating systems to handle those volumes.

This happened to me too. In-store pickup at 08:00-08:30.

It's on me for not checking my email before going to the appointment but the email came in after midnight.

It was kinda silly to be clapped into the store by a bunch of staff only to be told to come back after we get some sort of notification that our orders are ready.

Apple has emailed some customers who had an iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max scheduled for in-store pickup at an Apple Store today. The email says their orders "will not be ready for pickup" during their specified check-in time due to "last minute logistical issues," according to several MacRumors readers.

As a fluid situation, it's unclear how many customers are affected, how long orders may be delayed, or what the logistical issues are. We reached out to Apple for clarification, but didn't receive any new information to share.

It's certainly possible Apple may have enough in-store stock remaining later in the day to fulfill some or all of the delayed pickup orders.

There is some evidence to support last-minute logistical issues. Yesterday, some customers saw their order status updated to "Shipment to Hold" on Apple.com, while UPS indicated that some orders originally scheduled for Friday, September 21 delivery would be postponed until Monday, September 24.

For the most part, however, it seems iPhone deliveries are on schedule. MacRumors was informed that "Shipment to Hold" statuses were erroneous, while many UPS order delivery estimates have returned to Friday, September 21.

Still, it's possible that some percentage of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max shipments from China have not arrived to Apple Stores in time for today's launch, but our guess is as good as anyone's at this point. Apple apologizes in its email and says it is "working quickly to resolve the issue."

Apple says it will alert customers via email as soon as their orders are ready for pickup:Apple Stores and authorized resellers may still have the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 available to purchase in limited quantities for walk-in customers today, as an alternative solution. Online pre-orders can be returned to any Apple Store within 14 days of delivery.

[doublepost=1537545771][/doublepost]I got the email at 3am that my phone would not be ready. So I called apple support and the lady said that some items are being delayed because of the typhoons off the coast of china. She also said there is no estimate when it will arrive. But I was able to buy the phone I wanted 512G Xs Max. then just cancelled the pre ordered phone

Ordered 2 phones for pickup, minutes after orders went live last Friday;64 GB Black XS Max for myself and 64 GB Silver XS for the wife, 5:30-6 and 6-6:30 pm pickup windows, as we live about an hour and a half from the Apple Store and have to work today. Got the "logistical issues" email for my 64 GB XS Max around 3:30 am, but her phone was showing its already ready for pickup as of 6:30 am. This is all for Apple Store Northlake in Charlotte, North Carolina for reference.

The area is under flood watch from typhoon Manghut and I'm sure the flight routes out of Shenzhen where a mess from the high winds.

I’m not one for conspiracy theories but it’s easy to make the jump from China being hit with $200 Billion in tariffs and Chinese customs delaying some iPhones for a day or two.

Saw "Scheduled Delivery Friday 9/21" this morning, but now UPS can't find the tracking #.

Admittedly, same-day from China seems optimistic.
Seems there's a Customs delay.

UPS had this entry in my status - "A late flight has caused a delay. We will update the delivery date as soon as possible. / Delivery will be rescheduled." Then, it was upgraded to Saturday delivery, so I should have my wife's phone tomorrow.

I'm getting my Xs delivered today by UPS... ordered through the wireless company here (Rogers). No delay... sorry for those who have to wait. If it's any consolation I probably will have to pick it up from the UPS store this weekend as chances are they'll deliver it before I get home.

What I don't understand is why Apple makes this a sprint to the finish line every year.

Why can't the phones get shipped to all the country destinations on the Apple keynote day, in volumes appropriate to previous year's orders, so that those phones are local to those countries when pre-ordering begins? Then, you don't have to fight with customs at that point.

I mean, the fact that my phone and watch were both shipped on 9/19 (technically 9/18 in the US) and has to go through export customs, and then again via import customs is a lot to expect for guaranteed 9/21 delivery, given the numerous orders that were most likely placed.

I digress...

Right now I don't know if I will get either my watch or iphone today. UPS is showing delivery by the end of the day today for both the iphone and watch, but the watch doesn't show as having left China yet.

But they didn't, and life will go on if people get phones a few hours later. Better than in the past with debacles like the white iPhone 4, or how supply constrained early Plus models were.

Why even comment if you're just going to **** on people for being excited about a product? I myself need to test several apps for work on the thing, which is why I need my phone today otherwise I have no way of getting it for two weeks which also screws up the exchange of my old phone. It's a huge huge headache if I don't get it today. It's not a "status symbol" its for my job.

Because this appears to be a small issue with a handful of UPS/FedEx trucks having moved late and the delay is from morning until the afternoon, so to expect Apple to give out free product as a way to “make it right” is ridiculous. As for your very odd situation regarding needing it today for work or not having any access to the world for two weeks, and your putting all your eggs in one basket... how is that Apple’s fault?

I received the same message. Inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

Yeah, I got the same message about my watch series 4. Apple support told me it wouldn’t be available until Monday.

[doublepost=1537548520][/doublepost]For the most part the problem could be solved by using FedEx and not UPS.

So I didn’t get hit by this, but I did get a call from the Austin Texas CS facility asking to confirm my orders yesterday and they were a bit iffy about whether I would be getting my phones today.

I went to the Mission Viejo, CA store to do a pickup today for a 9am reservation. There was a walk in line but the reservations had no line, they were taking us immediately. One specialist managing the line said that stock was very bad today and referenced these logistics stories. The specialist who took my reservation didn’t say anything about not being able to fulfill all reservations, but she did say they had none for walk ins and had very limited stock.

I asked about Apple Watch series 4’s, they had the 40mm sport models in for purchase without a reservation, but 44mm models of any kind were for reservation only.
