My order was delayed as well. I was told by someone in "management" at the store that it was due to shipping issues because of Hurricane Florence... I gazed at him with a dumbfounded look on my face and asked him if he thought I was that stupid to believe that.

Meanwhile, my watch was delivered at 10am EST.

So I asked one of my friends who works at an Apple Store how the storm could affect the west coast. They said that Apple will actually rent these plans out for their launches, and for some reason, a lot of them are stationed on the east coast. He said a large number of them were grounded because of the hurricane.

So, stop being so aggressive to retail employees. Don’t be so proud of how poorly you treat people. It’s not a good look.

You have no idea on whether I was aggressive or not. Don't assume anything...you weren't there :). Good Day.

So after the saga, Apple told me to go to the Apple store near me and get an iPhone X’s and they cancel my order with ups
And one more thing, I didn’t expect that, but they gave me a leather case for free after that I didn’t get my iPhone yesterday as expected

I finally got my e-mail to pickup today. Because of the hassle, one of the store managers told me to pick out a case and he'd hook me up. I was thinking a discount of some sort. Well...there was a discount... a 100% discount. Totally not expected and to be honest, not really required. Crap happens, but thanks <name redacted>! Apple always makes up for issues in the seemingly simplest of ways.

Still no word on my 64 GB Verizon XS Max that I had for a 6-6:30 pm pickup at that Apple Store Northlake Mall in Charlotte. Apple Support said via chat Friday that I’d get it Friday, but no such luck, while chat today effectively said “it might be today, it might be Monday, but maybe not.” Meanwhile its a 3 hour round trip to the Apple Store and looking like I’ll have to take more time off work to get down to Charlotte and get my phone at some future time Apple can’t seem to decide on.

Yes, a notification from Apple or UPS would have been nice about the shipment delay for people who pre-ordered from the online store.
An update to my situation.... UPS tracking number now tells me that my iPhone is back in Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong....

Don't know what is going on...went from Louisville Kentucky back to HK... Anyone else? :(

I have xfinitymobile and I originally preordered my iPhone XS Max gold 256 on September 14, but come to find out my phone wasn’t shipping until Friday September 21 with was launch day. So I decided to take a chance and go to my local Xfinity store at 8am when they opened, I was the first and only customer. They only had one XS Max and it was space gray, I really wanted the gold, but I knew if I didn’t get this phone it will be awhile be I actually can. So I went on and got the Space Gray IPhone XS Max 256. And later that day my original preorder never shipped so I called in and canceled it.

But when I seen the gold in person I don’t like it, it’s cool looking but it’s not for me, so I guess everything worked out like it suppose to.

You aren't the only one. Mine was apparently in Louisville, KY on the morning of the 20th, then it was in-Transit, and the next thing I see its back to HK with a final ship date of the 26th.

Mine not only went to HK it missed it's flight in Anchorage Alaska (must have had one too many drinks at the bar) so another day delay added.

Yeah, it's probably how 95% of customers get their products on the correct date or even earlier in many cases.
It would be interesting to see what percentage of phones were delivered on-time vs volume ordered. I bet your estimate is in the ballpark, and imo perfectly acceptable.

Apple has emailed some customers who had an iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max scheduled for in-store pickup at an Apple Store today. The email says their orders "will not be ready for pickup" during their specified check-in time due to "last minute logistical issues," according to several MacRumors readers.

As a fluid situation, it's unclear how many customers are affected, how long orders may be delayed, or what the logistical issues are. We reached out to Apple for clarification, but didn't receive any new information to share.

It's certainly possible Apple may have enough in-store stock remaining later in the day to fulfill some or all of the delayed pickup orders.

There is some evidence to support last-minute logistical issues. Yesterday, some customers saw their order status updated to "Shipment to Hold" on Apple.com, while UPS indicated that some orders originally scheduled for Friday, September 21 delivery would be postponed until Monday, September 24.

For the most part, however, it seems iPhone deliveries are on schedule. MacRumors was informed that "Shipment to Hold" statuses were erroneous, while many UPS order delivery estimates have returned to Friday, September 21.

Still, it's possible that some percentage of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max shipments from China have not arrived to Apple Stores in time for today's launch, but our guess is as good as anyone's at this point. Apple apologizes in its email and says it is "working quickly to resolve the issue."

Apple says it will alert customers via email as soon as their orders are ready for pickup:Apple Stores and authorized resellers may still have the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 available to purchase in limited quantities for walk-in customers today, as an alternative solution. Online pre-orders can be returned to any Apple Store within 14 days of delivery.

I had a pickup of 6-6:30 pm Friday evening and I'm in the same boat; midday Monday and no one seems to be able to tell me where the $1300 phone I ordered is at or when I will get it.

Still waiting for my SS S4 watch that was supposed to be ready for pickup on Sep 21 at 5pm. No proactive communication from Apple since the delay email. I finally got a bit more info via chat. The rep said the watch is “at the Apple warehouse.” I asked where that warehouse is located, and the answer was China. I asked to switch to home delivery, and was told that’s not possible. So frustrating.

Senseotech - I'm hoping to hear back Today (Tuesday) . . . I went to the Apple store yesterday and was told I can call the store and as ask until an Email alert from Apple comes. The Apple store guy I spoke to said something about inventory coming in on Tuesday's and Thursday's . . . hoping that's true.

. . . in China. I guess that's better than no information.

Another day, another delay

After hearing nothing yesterday, I pulled the nuclear option and sent an email to Tim around lunch time, which triggered a call from the Executive Outreach Team yesterday afternoon. Jodie apologized profusely, then let me know she was overnighting a phone directly to my store and would let me know as soon as it arrived. She called back about an hour later to let me know that my original phone had actually just arrived and to be on the lookout for the pickup notification. Took the morning off work and ran the 1.5 hours down to Charlotte this morning and picked it up. Only issue now is that Jodie wanted me to follow back up with her and said she'd send an email with her contact info, but alas, that email never came yesterday evening. All in all, just glad to have my phone and I've learned for next year to have it delivered to my house; at least that way, I can see tracking info instead of being at the mercy of the Apple Store.
