If this delay creeps into Monday, there is nothing "last minute" about it. This is blatant incompetency by Apple's logistics team. They do this every year where they ship all new products 48 hours before launch direct from China. It is unrealistic to expect a timely delivery from UPS when you're shipping so close to launch. There is absolutely no contingency with the current system.

Received the email this morning about my watch not making the 6 PM pickup window. Just got another email at 3 PM EDT that it will be ready for pickup after all. We'll see what happens o_O but hoping others get it as well.

Received my Xs Max from AT&T via FedEx. The only problem is how long it takes to restore from my iCloud backup and download all my apps. Gonna. be. a. while. :-(

Indeed. Memories grow so distant so quickly in the mad dash for the shiny object on the hill. ;)

I know other people have experienced this issue in years past. This is the first time I have ever gotten up at 3am my time, got my order in, had release day delivery date, and not had my items delivered on that day. So, it is a first for me.

It won’t be you’re last unfortunately. :( This is what happens when today’s “Hyper Just in Time” supply logistics have a hiccup. Apple should have built up supply. No excuse for this. :apple:

Millions of deliveries in a single day and there was a slip up? Shocking.
wonder how many shipments per carrier. Seems only UPS is experiencing some delivery problems as FedEx customers are getting their deliveries given the feedback I have read.

Dowloading apps is taking a long time. I'm not even sure it's making any progress. Is something wrong or do I need to be more patient?

Edit: It's just taking a long time over wifi. With other new iPhones, I restored from an iTunes backup, and it was much faster. But since I'm at work, it's wifi from iCloud. Slow.

Delays in shipping because of the flooding in North and South Carolina. I'm lucky enough to accidentally order my iPhone XS Max to be delivered to my home instead of picking up at my local Apple Store which I forgot to do. :) Waiting for my delivery still. Its nearby though.

I read that too, but am not convinced of that. If you take a look at the flights, when the phones/watches left China, they were sent to Anchorage, Alaska. From Anchorage Alaska, they went to the international UPS hub in Kentucky and bypassed the east coast. I can understand delivery delays in those states, but do not believe weather incidents could explain the rest of the country.

What I don't understand is why Apple makes this a sprint to the finish line every year.

Leaks.

Apple is very secretive, not wanting devices revealed until they reveal at announcement.
There's likely some public hurdles they have to take for regulatory compliance, which they don't want to do until they can control the announcement. Don't want MacRumorsMT showing gov't filings before the big presentation.
Once revealed, customers want product ASAP.
All adds up to: fill manufacturing warehouse, announce product, make public filings, await expedited approvals, ship from warehouses to customers worldwide.

OK, so here is a question. Based on the UPS web site, Apple shipped i with UPS Worldwide Saver. That states: "International express shipments with guaranteed end of day delivery".
From locations in Asia to US it means 2 days, by end of day. As the package was shipped in time, but now not delivered based on the service (guaranteed 2 day delivery). Does this mean Apple will get a shipping refund from UPS?
Based on the following, they will:
" If we did not attempt to deliver your shipment by the guaranteed date or time, you can submit a request for a service refund by."

Apple is the one who would have an issue with UPS, not you with UPS. Our shipping was $0, so there is no shipping to refund. I am not saying Apple shouldn't compensate, I am just saying UPS won't to us, just Apple. And I bet UPS had a nice contract clause in place to protect them somewhat, since Apple is who wanted to ship and delivery millions of packages in a 48-72 hour window.

Really sorry to hear about those of you having shipping delays and other issues getting your phones.

T-mobile had completely hosed my Space Gray iPhone XS Max 512GB order. They had the wrong last name for my order and even though I'd pre-ordered with them just past midnight the device never seemed to be able to charge my card or ship out from their source. My Apple Watches have already shipped and are due to arrive Monday (again due to a stupid lack of information and options during the call center ordering process.). They forgot to offer the option to get Overnight delivery. After almost 6 years of doing this with T-mobile it's the first time they completely fudged a pre-order / launch.

Long story short, I walked into the Apple Store here in Newport Beach, CA and stood in line for about 30 minutes and they luckily had the exact same phone I planned to purchase in stock. (last one left at the time) I paid full price for it and walked out. Also traded in my old X and iPhone 8 Plus so that knocked the price down to just under 600 before taxes.

The process could not have been smoother, and I believe I will be doing all future pre-orders with Apple directly. For as much bad luck as they may have had during this launch with shipping logistics, they do get the details right and have this process down to a science far better than any carrier.

My order was delayed as well. I was told by someone in "management" at the store that it was due to shipping issues because of Hurricane Florence... I gazed at him with a dumbfounded look on my face and asked him if he thought I was that stupid to believe that.

Meanwhile, my watch was delivered at 10am EST.

Upper Canada Mall had super limited stock, lots of preorders were cancelled, store itself was really empty in general, not even empty for launch day.

Well, I called UPS and I requested Saturday service instead of Monday 9/24 by the end of the day. They approved it, so I will get it 2 days earlier.

Interesting! I preordered my 6s and had it ship to me via AT&T in 2015, and there was zero problems at all. My iPhone arrived perfectly on time.

I also got this email at 12:23 AM for an 8:30 AM pickup time. Was told by Apple Support that it is "temporary and should be resolved today." The specialist also said that he is "hearing Monday could be possibly the worst case scenario for pickup." Disappointing to say the least.
Just got an email from Apple saying my items are ready for pickup and to "please drop in at your earliest convenience and we will help you as soon as possible."

Where are you located? I’m hoping to get a similar email but nothing yet.

I’m just really hoping they get their shipment later today. Let me know if you hear anything.

Any luck yet? Nothing but crickets here.

For those who have had their order delayed, I feel for you guys.

Except production of these products started over a month ago, so Apple had plenty of time to stage their distribution in the USA, which they would have done had they not wanted to sacrifice any of their precious profit margin.
You're right, these products should have already been in the U.S. and ship from here and not directly from China. You would think those who pre-ordered, Apple would have made sure the products were already here to show their appreciation for their loyalty and/or enthusiasm to get it on Day 1.

Nope, nothing for me yet. Still waiting and hoping. A bunch of other people from around the country are seeming to get theirs later in the day, but I’m just getting more nervous with each passing hour.
