Thank you very much for your answer!
Currently using the 32“ Dell with 2880x1440 or slightly higher (30xx) density. While it looks ok I am asking myself if it will be such a high jump to the Studio Display. Unfortanetly there is no Apple Store in the near to see rhis Display in real. So you would recommend it for a Developer? Any things where a 5K display would be a bad choice? (Only using macs and I am no gamer) Thx, Lacos
I really like the monitor for work, absolutely no regrets. Another thing that stood out for me was the colour and vibrancy. It's just so much better than the previous monitor I was using and matches my work provided MacBook Pro which is nice. I don't watch films or play games on it so I'm certain it'll serve me well for a number of years.

The monitor is also quite close to a very large window so there can be a lot of natural light which isn't an issue at all because the screen automatically adjusts brightness to compensate. These small things are actually really handy in practice and just being able to use the keys on my keyboard to control the screen's brightness is nice.

The downsides would have to be the price, the camera (which really is awful) and the fact it only has 1 input.

I'm a developer. Must admit I'd say my previous monitor (LG 32" 4k) was better for development. I used the LG at native 4k. Text was tiny but I could easily read it. I had 3 IDE windows, a few simulators and my browser side by side. The Studio Display fits 2 IDE windows.
But it looks so much better! And when I need the extra space, I can always open my MacBook Pro instead of using it in clamshell mode.

When I first set up two Studio Displays next to each other I thought one was broken, because the color was off on one of them.

It turns out the True Tone setting checkbox is only visible for the main display.

I opened the 14” up as well, and once again the checkbox is only available for one of the three displays, and follows whatever display is set as the main display.

Is it really not possible to use True Tone on more than one monitor at once?

I have dual ASDs with my Mac Studio and True Tone check box is only visible on the Main display but if I check the True Tone box, both displays get True Tone.

Anyone using the Studio Display as a developer? Is that so much better compared to a 32" 4K Dell for example (text, IDE)? Do you see some benefits in darker rooms?
Yeah, but I'm coming from a 27" iMac so it feels the same (which isn't a bad thing for me).

For anyone using the Studio Display with a 2021 M1 Macbook Pro, how well do the screens match when using them side by side? I'm trying to decide whether to use the Macbook in clamshell mode, or to find a way to rearrange my desk to have two displays instead.

But, one thing that drives me crazy is mismatched color so I'm really curious about this. I realize the Macbook's display can do HDR and the Studio Display can't, but I'm wondering about non-HDR content.

Can a base model 14in M1 pro drive two studio displays?
Apple specs:
Display Support
Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at 1 billion
colors and:
Up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors (M1 Pro)
so yes

I want to verify that it will run both at 60hz. The specs seem to indicate yes, but I guess I'd like confirmation from someone who has done it. The base M1 Pro is the binned version.
The Studio Display is only 5K. Even a Mac Pro 2013 can power three 5K displays at 60 Hz and Billion colors.
If the M1 Pro can drive two 6K XDRs the 5K ASD is a given.
But of course it's your right to wait for a personal confirmation.

Yes you can. I have a 14" MBP M1 Pro and I can drive my pair of ASDs at full 5K/60Hz with it or even using my Satechi TB4 Dock with one TB4 cable from the 14" MBP M1 Pro to the dock and both ASDs plugged into the TB4 dock.

They're pretty close, even more so with TrueTone on. If you're fastidious about matching screen colour cast, your best bet is to pick up a screen calibrator and do both displays. For most people, I think they're close enough.

I've been using a 40" LG Ultrawide for the last day or so instead of Apple Studio Displays which has been interesting.

  • The extra screen real estate in one monitor rather than two, is nice. I still like the physical separation of two screens, but maybe I'd get used to a single one. The panel quality looks really good, but at its native resolution, its not got a high enough ppi to give me "retina-like" quality. I've had to drop it down to a lower resolution, which means much less space which kind of defeats the purpose for me.
  • It doesn't always wake from sleep and when it does, its very slow to do so. I've had to power cycle it on a couple of occasions in order to get the screen to wake (connected over Thunderbolt). I've had this issue with other LG screens ever since the Apple move to usb-c/thunderbolt back in 2015/2016.
  • The speakers aren't as good quality as on the ASD and there's obviously no inbuilt webcam which is very convenient.
  • It looks nice enough, but the build quality isn't as good as the ASD and its a much thicker unit.
  • Its about a similar price as a single ASD - £1500, but offers more screen-space with a nice curve to it.
In summary, its kind of reinforced the view held by some, that the price of the ASD is worth it, because they are designed from the ground up to work with Macs. They "just work", which is a cliche, but its still something which holds true and in my view is worth something.

Also, one of the team has said they've just noticed a company with stock of the VESA-mounted ones - "Insight UK" - so have placed an order for two which are due on Monday. If that actually happens, I guess there's still some making it out to retailers here and there.

Hi all, got mine yesterday. The 15.5 Update does not show up on my new Studio Display (currently 15.4 installed). I am using a Macbook Air M1 with MacOS 12.4 - but the software update center dies not show the new firmware for the studio display. Anyone hat this issue, too? What to do here? I have already rebooted several times, used the another port...

A few weeks in and I am getting driven crazy by the fact that every time I wake my ASD (and Mac Studio) back up, it momentarily shows all of the windows at the wrong size and then corrects itself.

Except that some apps don't correct themselves and I am constantly resizing their windows back to where I want them. This is ridiculous.

Is everyone having this issue or is this special to me?

Hi all.
I am considering buying a Studio Display ti pair with my MacBook Pro 14.
I will opt for the standard glass and standard stand.
Does any of you with this base configuration noticed any issues regarding the stand being crooked, similar to what happen to the 24 inch iMac? I’ve read at least 2 posts of users with that issue, curiously both have the stand with height adjustment . Dinah if you with the til stand have any issues with the display being slanted/crooked?

What VESA arm or arms are you using for those?

We're setting a pair up here and struggling with the Ergotron LX arm to try and get the two screens next to each other in landscape orientation.

Hi, connecting a Studio Display and a 4K Dell (via Display-Port) should work with the Satechi? I can get it for much less money as the Caldigit TS4 Dock and it would be sufficent for me. Can you confirm that it should work with one 5K and one 4K Display via one cable to my Macbook Pro?

I do see that, but not when I just wake up the ASD. I see it when I disconnect my Mac from it and later reconnect it.

One tip I have for this is to disable sleep when the machine is plugged in. Don't put the machine to sleep, just lock the screen.

Apple Silicon Macs use almost no power when idle. We're talking 2, maybe 3 watts at most. Having the machine stay awake not only avoids problems like this but also keeps network connections open and everything active so when you return it's instantly ready to go.

EDIT: Just re-read and I see you have a Mac Studio, not even a laptop. Even more reason not to sleep it unless you're going to be away for a long time. A lot of minor issues I had with my iMac went away when I stopped using sleep.

I have an Ergotron LX single tall pole but you have to also purchase the LX arm extension so that way you can have dual ASDs in landscape orientation.

I'll try that!
For some reason I swore I had that feature disabled already on my previous iMac but perhaps that setting didn't transfer over.

I still think it's an unreasonable bug and that Apple should fix it.

Are you using the BenQ Halo Lamps? Are you satisfied with them? Is the cam still usable of you place them on top?
