What MacBook stand is that?
It is from Grovemade.

Also, I got my desk pad to calm down and stay flat :p

Looks great and stylish but also warm with the wood and leather. Very nice.

And how did you calm down your desktop pad?
Thank you! Can't wait to get rid of the make-shift window covers on the side windows, lol!

Double-sided tape. I don't know why it started doing that so bad, as it was not curling like that originally. Maybe it is the humidity where we are.

Unfortunately work MacBook is in VPN, and universal control won't work.
Only if your IT folks haven't enabled split tunnelling. Very few environments have a security posture that actually requires full tunnelling, most just don't bother to configure things properly.

My work 16" M1 Pro is connected to the VPN via Cisco AnyConnect more or less permanently, and Universal Control works across my iPad pro and iPad mini without fail.

How loud are the fans on these? I was just in Best Buy today looking at one, it looks amazing and I want it, but I noticed constant air blowing out the top, even though it wasn't set particularly bright and the store was fairly cold. Sadly the store environment is too loud to really know how audible it would be in a quiet office.

They were out of stock, and also I can get an EDU discount on Apple, so I put in an order anyway; with the current lead time it'll be over a month that I can change my mind. :)

I can't hear mine.

If you lean over your ASD with your ear directly all the time you won't hear it.

I can’t hear mine at all.

The first studio display I returned also have this problem. The fan run at full speed all the time, and it's very loud, like the intel MacBook Pro fan running at 5000rpm. The replacement unit is absolute quiet, I can't feel any air blowing out even place my hand on top of it.

(Edit - after some more digging, it appears power cycling the display fixes the issue. Filed with Apple. We really need a way to reboot these displays in the OS.)

A crack in the armor... has anyone else had their speakers flake out? This morning when I connected to a Zoom call, my speakers worked for about 2-3 seconds and then there was a "pop" sound and they died. I can sometimes get them to work again if I switch outputs, but every time they only last a few seconds.

Does anyone else have this issue?

We all have had it. Unplug the monitor for about 20 seconds then plug back in. Has fixed it for us all.

Cheap solution:

one of the multiple ASD's randomly flickers, rather strobes then 75% of the time its perfectly fine. when I first received it, it wouldn't even turn on..the color on it is fantastic so it sucks there is either a hardware or OS glitch on this unit. No amount of cable swaps, trying on different outlets, different Macs with different OS version helps, a replacement is on backorder but hopefully the iOS/Silicon hybrid is not to blame and cause issues going forward.

That is super interesting! I've had fan noise issues since I got mine on Day 1 - and noticed as well the display is getting pretty warm, how did you go about getting a replacement? Was this via AppleCare?

I'm worried that they won't have any replacements in stock :(

Anyone using the Studio Display as a developer? Is that so much better compared to a 32" 4K Dell for example (text, IDE)? Do you see some benefits in darker rooms?

Most of my work is writing code and reading research. The text is extremely sharp, it's instantly noticeable and you get the screen real estate of a 1440p monitor, as opposed to using a 4k monitor with 2x scaling which give you the screen real estate of a 1080p monitor (which isn't enough).

Thank you very much for your answer!
Currently using the 32“ Dell with 2880x1440 or slightly higher (30xx) density. While it looks ok I am asking myself if it will be such a high jump to the Studio Display. Unfortanetly there is no Apple Store in the near to see rhis Display in real. So you would recommend it for a Developer? Any things where a 5K display would be a bad choice? (Only using macs and I am no gamer) Thx, Lacos

I switched from 4k 27 to ASD as Developer. No regrets. It's Joy to use ASD especially in remote working.
