Mine finally arrived!

Just noticed that being much lighter than my old iMac it is easy to move on the desk. It could even fall.

What do you guys use to make the base safer, stickier?
Hm, they have just the right friction on my laminate desk surface. If your desk is too slippery under the rubbery feet of the ASDs maybe a layer of cling film can help?

Anyone know how to 'encourage' the Studio Display firmware update? The software update system preference panel says I'm up to date. Granted I just installed the displays, though they both appear to be running firmware 15.4 (19E241).

Yeah, still running the official version of Monterey 12.5 specifically for that reason.
Then I'd expect the update to show up soon. Quitting and restarting the System Preferences and looking again might also nudge it to re-check.

Did anyone else's Macbook plugged into the Studio Display start playing music while the display updated? Mine started playing Abba, which was hilarious somehow. :)

Then the song stopped when the laptop and display rebooted. This is likely a bug, but I consider it a welcome one if it makes me smile.

If you're running Monterey try this: There's an easy way to force a refresh to "see" the update. Go into System Preferences, Software Update, click "Advanced", click the hopefully checked "check for updates". It will prompt for a password. Cancel, hit "OK", and then it should refresh and show the update.

Yeah. Did that. Nothing yet. Guess I’ll have to wait……

Cling film didn't do the trick, still too slippery and unsafe.

But I recycled an old mouse pad. It has a very adhesive surface in the back. I removed the upper cover (the part where the mouse is supposed to rest, which is VERY slippery) and use the mat to secure both the Studio display and the Mac Studio. No way to move these babies without real intention, now.

Thanks anyway, problem solved! :)

Hi,
Any of you tried to change the stand by having an appointment at the apple store. Im planning to buy to Studio Displays, but obviously VESA mounts are not available in store. The Apple stores here in London regularly have available studio displays with the regular stand. Would it be faster for me to purchase from the store and then get an Apple store appointment?
Ordering online with VESA mount shows Mid Oct delivery...

Very good! Just out of curiosity: What kind of surface does your desk have? The ASDs are quite solidly fixed in place on mine.

I would really order it outright with the stand or mount you actually want! Even in the store there can be some risk of damaging it during the change.

Shipping dates are not actually fixed: I got my Mac Studio way earlier than originally advised and my ASDs still several days earlier; So the shipping dates you get are more "worst case" estimates as far as I can tell, at least under current circumstances.

I was checking earlier and it was mid oct delivery, now it’s late September / early Oct.

As far as I've read, Apple is not yet changing stands/mounts in store yet. Several posts on Reddit have said that Apple store employees have no idea if or when such a service will be available.

Bought one of these, to raise up the ASD some, on Amazon. Love it.
There's many kinds and variations of similars. But I liked this in particular because of more variability, such as different hights settings, comparing to these kinds in wood for instance.
And it's Black!

Get it why people buy the Tilt- and height-adjustable stand. But as I had seen these kinds of display-raiser before I bought I figured they will also be good for: more than 1 display, and to organize other stuff on/around my desk in a great way. I have more stuff going on in my office/studio then just the Mac so I need other things near and around my workplace.

I am really satisfied with it.

Looks like wood, but probably it's a kind of Formica. I don't really know.
Ah, if the surface is basically ridged that reduces the contact surface; Then it's plausible that your mouse pad solution helps because it goes into the grooves of the surface to hold on to it.

VESA ones are out there, just in very limited stock. I managed to get two from a company called Insight about a month ago for next day delivery.

I did think about getting a normal one and then getting it swapped over, but I'm going to guess that will be a £300+ cost (total speculation). I have 100% confidence Apple will do a professional job, but I'd be tempted to order the VESA one from Apple now and in the meantime just keep an eye out with Google for other stock. Or even use the store checker tool for Apple stock locally.

Ordering now for delivery in October doesn't seem too bad a time to wait given how long those who ordered at launch have had to wait/are still waiting.

I am afraid you can't do anything but wait.

But normally you should get the update very soon.
Last night I unplugged one of the displays and left the other attached, rebooted and the firmware update popped right up. Odd.
Anyway, updated the one plugged into the MBP, rebooted, plugged the second one back in, firmware update popped up again, and successfully updated that one as well.

For whatever reason, having both plugged in wouldn't trigger the update until one was disconnected. 🤷‍♂️

FaceTime camera is definitely less noisy.

I finally received my Studio Display after 3 months delay.
It's connected to my Mac Studio (as well as an LG Ultragear 27GN950 for gaming).
I've been using it for about 2 weeks now.

Impression overall: well built, great picture quality, good sound quality. I was coming from a 27" retina iMac so it's all very familiar.

However one thing that's really noticeable is the slow response time of the display. It feels like there's a slight delay in about everything, whether it's typing, clicking on menus, using the mouse (trailing), etc. It's almost like you're working on a remote desktop over internet.

Perhaps I've gotten used to (and spoiled with) the LG 27GN950 which is 4K 144 Hz, and only 1 ms, but I can't recall this laggyness on my iMac 5K. I couldn't find similar reports from others, so I guess I'm just having to get used to it (or maybe a future firmware update?)

EDIT: another thing I noticed is the sound level ramps up real quick. With only 3 blocks (out of 16) in the sound slider (fn+f11-f12) it's already very loud. This could have been tuned somewhat more proportionally imo.

Are all those things (typing, clicking, mouse) being done over Bluetooth? Maybe you're getting some new interference in your setup that's causing Bluetooth to lag, and can try plugging your devices in by cable to see if the problem goes away?
