Finally got my Studio display with Vesa and really like it mounted on my CBS Ollin monitor arm.

Only issue I have is the freaking short Thunderbolt cable which I have hoped to run it through the monitor arm cable management trays. Just like to check if you guys just live with it or bite the bullet and get the 1.8/3M Apple Pro Cable?

Was also thinking bout getting a 3rd party cable but was worried I'll run into issues (just being paranoid).
Same here. I ended up buying the 1.8m Apple cables. Probably could have gone 3rd party, but I had enough Apple Cash from my Apple Card cash-back to buy both cables without feeling guilty about it.

Do you know about concrete options that work well and fit (functionally and esthetically) to a ASD desk setup?
Any USB-C plug is going to fit functionally. As for aesthetics: choose a colour! :p Apple's supplied cable is black, but you might prefer a white one as being more discreet.

Any USB-C plug will fit, but the cable may not do what you want.

The cable could support different revisions of USB or Thunderbolt at different speeds, or charging at different wattages. It is really important to get a cable specified for the task you need it to perform.

@rocketbuc asked about ASD setup, so Thunderbolt 3 supporting 40 Gbit/s is probably the minimum spec.

I just got one for my work MBP. Pretty nice IMO. I do a lot of Zoom calls and the microphones and speakers are very convenient. No problems so far, what else is there to say lol

Here it is next to my personal XDR and MBP

What kind of monitor is the left one? Also, love me some diet dr pepper! woo

I have the ASD and both the 14” Pro and M2 Air. Both work equally well with the ASD, though as you point out only the Pro will support a second external display natively.
I must say I disagree.

The M2 Air seems to wake up the ASD a little bit slower then the 14" Pro.

Yes. “Caldigit” on one side, “⚡️” on the other. (At least that’s the case for my 2m active caldigit cable.)

So you mean CalDigit brand name is on both sides on 1 end of the connector and Thunderbolt 4 is on both sides on the other end of the connector?

Am asking as a colleague loaned me a 2m cable with no branding at all. Just Thunderbolt 4 on a single side with of each connector.

Would love to have clear indicators to make sure I don’t mix them up with the normal type c cables

When I got my Mac Studio I also got the Studio Display with height adjustable stand.
This was to replace my older 27” iMac whose main purpose was my photo editing hobby.

I’ve been very pleased with the display, I find it an excellent update from my iMac.
I like the image quality and find it a pleasure to use for long periods.
An added bonus is that its allowed me to simplify my desk setup as I can also use the display with my MacBook Pro which I use for work.

The speakers seem pretty decent, and allowed me to ditch the computer speakers I had on my iMac.
And the camera seems good quality, been happy with how it performs for Zoom and Teams calls, with mic quality also being pretty good.

Yes I appreciate the height adjust was a lot extra, but being tall it has been invaluable, and build quality is excellent.
Very easy to adjust for other family members and no problem with shaking etc.

I’m very happy with the display and given the choice would buy again.

Does the ASD require a Thunderbolt 4 cable? I have an old 0.8m Thunderbolt 3 cable laying around, and decided to test it to see if it would work, as it's always nice to have a spare, and it didn't. Nothing appeared on screen and the USB stuff plugged into the ASD did not power up.

I'm wondering if this is expected behavior, or if my old TB3 cable is defective somehow. TB3 should support 40gbps so it should be enough, theoretically? I expected it to at least do SOMETHING, even if at a lower resolution.

Looking to get one of these. A lot of YouTubers say this screen isn’t the one to get….

But from the people who own one, how much do you love it? I
Love how it looks.

I thought about the LG ultra fine but when it comes to reliability I hear it’s shaking.

Love mine and the speakers are better than expected. The camera is taking lots of hits on forums but the reports from folks on zoom have raved about how good my images are.

After nearly 5 months of daily use I can say that I love my ASD very much.
I love the build quality, the look and the super sharp screen. And how good and flawless it works with my MBP and my iMac.
And for my use with MS Teams calls all day the speakers, the mic ans also the cam works wonderfully.
Of course the cam is not good enough if you want to record a YT video or something like this. But it is really more then enough for video conferences.
