If you order the Studio Display with the tilt- and height-adjustable stand it costs 400$ more than the standard stand or the vesa mount. So changing from standard or vesa to tilt- and height-adjustable stand will cost at least 400$ plus maybe whatever fee they charge to change the stand. But changing from standard to vesa or vice versa should be a lot cheaper.
Keep checking the refurb store, I got mine with the tilt stand for $1300.

Anyone know if it’s possible to check/update the Studios firmware if using it exclusively with an iPad as an external monitor (running 16.2 RC). Thanks.

Since the power cord is not removable, how does the Apple Studio Display work with a standing desk?

I have a standing desk and the cable is long enough. I usually have my desk at 44 inches high.

Not to my knowledge, no.
Thank you.

Seems crazy since the screen is also designed to be run Mac less, especially now iPad OS 16.2 is here (almost).

Hopefully there will be a way to update this with the final 16.2 release, otherwise I have almost zero control of the screen.

While it certainly works with an iPad Pro, I'm not really sure that means it was designed to be used Mac-less. The camera isn't supported on iPad, and only the M-series iPads can use the display at full screen resolution with Stage Manager. Kinda expensive for just a second screen for one's iPad Pro.

That said, perhaps Apple will add the ability to iPadOS to update the display's firmware (since the display runs a version of iOS as it is).

I’m running a 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro and for my current workflow, it’s all I need (for now).

The screen is excellent and the full resolution use of the display with State Manager is pretty good thus far.

For me this was also a stepped approach, I’ll probably add a Mini (if it ever gets updated) or a Studio in the future, but until then it seems I have to make do with the out of the box studio display software and settings, which is annoying.

Any friends with a recent make MacBook who can plug in and update your firmware for you?

But, if you're not having any issues, then there's no real reason to update the display's firmware until there's some feature that doesn't work correctly.

Oh, and I've got two Studio Displays (connected to my Mac) and an iPad Pro - and the display certainly does look fabulous being run by the iPad. So I get why you did it.

Just wanted to officially post that I FINALLY took the plunge last night. Supposed to be delivered today and will set it up. I now have to figure out how to handle my desk space.

Hoping that newly rumored one doesn't entice me..unless there is a trade in program.

Did yall grab AppleCare to it? I had an old 27in all in one Mac about 10 years ago and it **** the bed with no option to fix and concerned about that.

Can you add the scaled 2304x1296 resolution for the Apple Studio Display? My understanding is that it is not available. It isn't available for my 5K iMac i5-7600. The closest options are 2560x1440 (2X native) and 2048x1152.

Ironically, macOS offers the 2304x1536 option for my 4K+ 3840x2560 Huawei Mateview 28.2", so I'm running that for my M1 Mac mini. For that monitor, macOS also offers 2560x1707 and 2048x1365, among other options.

Sorry if it's already been posted. I didn't check the entire thread.

I actually thought about adding AppleCare to mine but then found out there's a 60 day window and I'm past it.

I figure it's something that just sits on my desk and doesn't get moved around, and the only moving parts are two flat fans which are among the most reliable type on the market. If it doesn't fail in the first year of ownership it should be fine for the long haul, I hope.

I just rely upon my credit card extended warranty, which brings the warranty to two years instead of one.

The claim process for my Amex's extended warranty is you need to go to Apple to get a repair estimate from them. Then you submit it to the insurance claim department and they cut you a cheque for that amount. You don't even need to get it repaired. You could decide to put the money to something else.

Did you see any issues with your display? I’m a big fan of buying refurbished from apple but I question panel quality since these are probably returns.

I don't want to jinx myself, but like every other refurb apple product - it has performed quite well, with no noticeable issues of any kind. It could have been a return but for arbitrary/trivial reasons, such as the purchaser opted for a different stand, changed their mind, etc., and not for quality issues. That said, it is an outstanding screen that perfectly replaces my 2017 iMac 2017.

AC is not a lot for it (compared to the macbook pro, at least); see if you can bring it in to the apple store and have them inspect it to see if the store manager will bend the 60-day limit. If you aren't too far past it they might show some flexibility.

I am just concerned with my bad experience on a previous all in one 27in Mac and how it crapped out so fast. I know this is a completely different device but there are a lot of internal parts from what I have seen and may be worth the $150 for 3 years though I hope it lasts many many more years.

Set it up today, and good lord it's beautiful. Exactly what I needed and away from working on my 14in every day.

Now to fine tune this Magic Trackpad experience. The edge of my desk is killing my arm!

I would do it. I have an ASD that gets stuck in restore mode when it tries to update software. Both times I've been able to get it "unstuck" but it's an annoying and frustrating process. Another posted on here who had to go without his for weeks while waiting for a repair is one of the reasons I've been putting off addressing it.

Might have been a lemon. I'm still using my 2010 27" Core i7 iMac (kids' computer, after an SSD upgrade), and 2017 27" Core i5 iMac (my primary personal computer).

My 2009 27" Core i7 iMac crapped out in the first couple of years, but I suspect that's because the house was being renovated while we still lived there and construction dust got EVERYWHERE.

I also bought a refurb and no issues so far. Love the screen.
