I didn't know Apple approach towards product development and releases is "let's make something a little better for a little less money". Ok, I agree there are few to none 5k resolution displays with these specific characteristics, but other than that, the Studio Display does not shine in any meaningful way as a new product. There is no innovation or anything "new" that we haven't seen on the market. It's just OK product, zero "Apple's magic". IMO, if Apple is not developing its own display technology, there is no point in releasing any product in this segment. People expect and want from Apple innovations, new technologies (for example, like the Apple Silicon) and products that set the bar for the rest of the industry. Not just another monitor. Obviously they needed a monitor for the Mac Studio and decided to release a half baked product that lacks any purpose. I personally didnt expect this approach from Apple.I'm not defending the display (I don't have one and won't buy it because it's out of my price range for what I need) but this statement seems unfair: "The real issue is that $1,599 is a lot of money, and here it's buying you panel tech that is woefully behind the curve."
What other 5K displays compete at this price range? They need to be ideally in the 27 - 32" range without being ultrawide -- those are great but they are a different sort of 5K resolution because they don't have the vertical resolution, which is important with a lot of productivity work. How does their "panel tech" compare to this one?
Who is producing something better than this with comparable color accuracy, brightness, resolution, and refresh rate?
It's being marketed at folk who want a native 5k display, with high brightness of those wanting an Apple display. It’s a iMac screen. iMac screen is good, but not ‘studio’ good. It’s a poor product given who it’s marketed to.
The poorest apple product, IMO. Still better than most rivals, but poor by their standards.
If you’re not tied to any of Apple’s software, that’s actually the best solution. Awhile back, I helped folks migrate from Apple to other platforms (haven’t done that in awhile as folks I know now are really stuck on Apple software). I still keep in touch with some of them and none of them have regretted the decision as their use cases were already on the edges of Apple’s interest in serving the market and are now well outside. Sure, there was a learning curve, but the flexibility was worth the time and now they can build whatever system THEY feel is most valuable with the features most important to THEM, not Apple.I am slowly thinking about switching to either Linux or Windows just to have better support for low ppi displays, especially ultrawides, as Apple does not really care about that.
Yep, better off getting a Mini Led 120hz MacBook Pro from the EDU store for a little bit more coin, instead of paying $2,500 AUD for this nasty turd of a display.Nasty stuff. They’ll probably fix it with a studio display ‘pro’. confusing.
Does this screen look about 3x as good as the iMac 24" screen? If it doesn't, what the hell is the deal with the price?
With Jobs, people spoke about his reality distortion field with reverence. With Cook his ability to sell to our desires and gloss over deficiencies and price is suddenly snake oil...Dang! Tim Cook, snake oil salesman. Ouch!
If you see value in it thats fine. I am more talking about things like the Studio Display with its issues or Apple not including a keyboard and mouse with the Mac Studio, charging extra money for a color option, $150 for a Thunderbolt cable, $999 for a stand, $700 wheels.. etcMy 14” MacBook was around $2,000 and I am extremely happy with it. Incredible display, speakers, performance etc. I think just some parts of their lineup are better than others.
During that interview when asked about the rising costs Tim says, "We want to make an iPhone for everyone." I guess wanting and doing aren't always the same thing.Had it coming long time ago. 🎯
Remember when Apple started to charge us $999.99 for an iPhone X. He said iPhone X was a steal. It's pretty interesting. What a time to be alive.

CNBC Transcript: Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks with CNBC’s Josh Lipton and Jim Cramer
Just prior to Apple's fourth quarter earnings report, CEO Tim Cook sat for an exclusive interview with CNBC's Josh Lipton.www.cnbc.com
Check out the interview below. This was the beginning...
*Like who else ?I really hope Apple does a hardware update on the Studio Display to bring it in the line with the modern times, but given their track record I suspect we’ll have this unit for years.
I believe in trusting my own experience not what a bunch of internet influencers have to say. I buy products that fit my needs, so if the camera is ****, but I don't care about the camera that does not stop me from buying the product. Don't need height adjustments, my work space is already setup so my displays are at the right height and depth. Don't need camera or microphone because I don't video conference or facetime or make calls using my computer. I need a clear sharp, bright picture and a screen that is going to be worry free for as long as I am going to own it between 7 and 10 years). My assumption about the Studio 27" display itself (not speakers, not camera) is at least as good as the 27" iMac if that is the case, it works for my use.Well, except for all the reviewers saying the display is a mess, but sure, otherwise, no reason.
Not like big company/website, If youtuber say bad thing about apple product , they won't have a chance to review new stuff from apple next time. We can't really get a real review from them to be honestiJustine is so far up the Apple PR machines ass... Can't even trust a single thing she says now. Some of the footage on her screen from her over-the-shoulder shot looks like it was added in post too?
Dell sells a 4K 27” Thunderbolt 3 monitor with similar aspirations as the Studio Display for $1529.00 (UP2720Q). It would be interesting to see how the Dell measures up give the negligible cost difference.I can remember defending the "Apple tax" back when the products they released had the quality to back up the sometimes outrageously overpriced hardware. I think those days have passed, I think Apple is just getting more and more greedy with the Mac.
Who the hell cares, once I plug in the display, it stays plugged in, the next time I unplug my 30" Apple display will be the first time I unplug my 30" Apple display. If I need to use a display in another room or take it with me I use my MacBook Pro. Can't for the life of my understand my people are getting worked up that the power plug is hard wired. Is the power cord really not removable??
I don’t have money for this display, but it would be an interesting comparison.Hmmm... After 13 pages of whining and complaints there is not one link to a display that outperforms the Studio Display for a lower price.
Can you get a less capable display for a lower price? Sure. Can you get Studio Display specs for cheaper? I haven't seen it yet. There's a difference between "not for you" and "not a good display".

The only other market alternative thusfar is $1300 from LG which has a plasticy build, so-so webcam and reliability issues. Issues Apple solved these proplems and added a couple of other goodies for $200 extra.
Show me a $400 5K display. I’m not even sure if you find a legitimate 5K display under $1,000Exactly what separates this display from a $400 display from another company? For what is being offered, they really overpriced this one. I would rather spend $500 on a 34" 21:9 curved monitor.
