hello to all, I would like to connect my pc with an nvidia 1060 gtx evga, I followed this video on YouTube that shows connecting with the cable amazon to him is displayed on the desktop, while to me it makes an effect as if you wanted to start but then does not start, Is there anything I should install you have suggestions?

1. At startup the bios is displayed with the writing ASUS then once started the screen becomes black

2. I tried to uninstall the nvidia drivers and it works perfectly but as soon as I install the drivders it starts not working again

Maybe try a solution that includes USB such as the Belkin Charge and Sync Cable.
Install the Boot Camp drivers to get all the features of the display.
To get 5K you'll need to create a custom timing with a lower refresh rate. Otherwise you'll be stuck at 4K60 because the 1070 doesn't support DSC and the Studio Display doesn't support HBR3. Maybe you can get 5K60 using 6bpc. Still waiting for someone to show if these methods work...

I tried to do screen duplication with 1920x1080 and it worked so much but when I detach the secondary monitor starts not working again, in my opinion set the 5k for this does not work, is there a way to block the resolution of windows to 1920x1080?

i solved the problem i explain it here, first i followed this Guide to impotare as first screen not the apple studio display, after which I changed the screen size by setting 4k 60hz after which if you disconnect the monitor he will try to put 5k again and then returns to not work, To solve the problem just go to the registers and copy the register of the Display1+StudioDisplay in the register single studio display and this made it work I solved the problem.

UPDATE: Uninstalling the RealTek 5,1 Bootcamp drivers sorted the issue, sound is perfectly fine now. :) Just FYI this is on my Mac Pro 5,1 in Windows 10 with USB-C from RTX 2080 TI to ASD. Thought maybe this would help someone.

Everything is working superbly now, I get sound and brightness control on the Magic Keyboard even. :)

Edit: Nope, I still get distortion :(

Edit 2: Switching to my Mac Mini M1 and sound is perfect so nothing is wrong with the display itself.
Exact same issue with a Cable Matters certified 40Gbps USB-C cable, picture is perfect with full 5K60 resolution at 8, 10, 12 bit colour, doesn't skip a beat. Then I get sound distortion (only) occationally, sounds like sort of static sound for a few seconds. Have played with all kind of sound settings and have tried moving the GPU to different slots. Tried different power outlets.

I don't think the cable is the issue. I did a test install of Windows 11, same thing.

Anyone have a clue? USB-C connected straight from 2080 TI USB-C out to input of Apple Studio Display. The GPU supports DSC so that's what it's using I suppose.

Sound is perfect when using the Mac Mini M1.

One observation for anyone that is doing 5K gaming, assuming you’re using a sufficiently powerful graphics card like an RTX 30 series that has no problem with the frame rates, I’ve found that the screen tearing is much worse than with a 4K monitor. Turning on vsync in the game or the Nvidia control panel is a very good idea. I’ve never had to do that with lower resolution monitors but with the ASD, it’s a necessity.

Trying to catch up on all the suggestions in this thread, but am a little unsure on what my best bet is. I have a windows desktop with an RTX 3090 - no USB C/thunderbolt port on it. Is there a cable (usb c to display port? Or something else?) that will allow me to connect my studio display properly without my 3090 having a usb c?

Belkin VR Cable. You’ll need to get it on eBay or order it from a China-based seller.

Has anyone actually used the Belkin VR Cable with Studio Display successfully (including sound and USB functionality) or do we just assume it works since it works with the XDR?

I'm leaning toward getting one as the next step, having crackling/static audio as I've posted before.

Yes, of course, many folks. However, no idea what if any effect it will have on your audio issues. If the problem is due to the USB implementation on the GPU, then bypassing that with the Belkin cable might fix it. If it’s some sort of general audio driver problem on your system, then you might still have the problem. From what I understand of what you’ve posted previously, there is no reason why the USB-C port you have now shouldn’t be working fine.

Cheers for that, worth a try, I'll order a cable. The upside with the Belkin VR cable is I can get a more powerful GPU later when I need it.

Yeah it is strange, everything works great apart from the bug, the picture is perfect all the time. I tried an older Nvidia driver last night and I thought it was sorted but then after ten minutes of music on youtube the distortion came briefly again. But it's not a huge issue, just a but annoying with static sound coming every 30 seconds to 10 minutes. The USB Audio drivers from Microsoft I haven't found any other drivers for so can't rule that out.

I just thought of something, surely it can't be the CPUs or RAM, can it? It's a Mac Pro 5,1 with dual Xeon X5670 at 2.93 Ghz. It has 96 GB Ram as well, both CPUs and RAM tested OK. I've also tried it at "Performance" Energy Mode. I'm not a pro at these things.

Sorry to say but no idea. It Is very likely a software compatibility issue but between the Bootcamp drivers and the Nvidia drivers, I wouldn’t know where to start. As I said, the Belkin cable might help because you’ll likely be using a different USB port that is using a different driver, but theres no guarantee. I would spend more time in checking drivers and such but that could get very complex. I’d start with just googling for noise in audio from USB-C monitors and 2080 Ti since I don’t think this is an ASD specific problem.

Ordered the Belkin VR cable from Vopmart the other day, should get it by next week I think, paid premium for DHL Express at least. I hope the store is reputable.

I did some research on the 2080 TI's USB-C port, seems it is not completely uncommon with random disconnects over that port, although most talk about peripherals:

Hopefully everything will work as intended using the new cable, I'll post an update. :)

Has anyone managed to get the Studio Display working with a PC with the ASUS ThunderboltEX 4 card consistently?

When I tried it, it would randomly work after a while of just fidgeting with it in the most basic of ways: restart PC, unplug the Thunderbolt cable about a million times, unplug it from the outlet, etc. etc. When it would work, it would work pretty much flawlessly, 5K60, webcam, speakers all working just fine, I just could never get it working reliably.

Not sure if there has been an update to that Thunderbolt card's firmware since this monitor was released..

I'm using an ASUS 3080, latest Intel CPU, and that ASUS ThunderboltEX 4 card. What I have seen in this thread that I haven't tried however is a few people posted a picture with two DisplayPort cords connected from GPU to TB4 card. I have only ever tried it with one as I didn't realize it could make a difference...?

The frustrating thing is when it would work, it would be working absolutely fine... I suppose if all else fails that Belkin cord and just not even bothering with the Thunderbolt card is always an option....

I was able to figure out how to get the Thunderbolt output of my Corsair One PC working. Long story short, there are in fact two mini-DisplayPort inputs concealed behind knockouts on the backplate that must be connected to the GPU outputs to tunnel DP over Thunderbolt, which is pretty common except the documentation made no mention of these concealed inputs. In any case, this let me try out driving the ASD via Thunderbolt rather than via the Belkin cable I've been using. As long as I only hook up one of the 3080 TI DP outputs to a mini-DP in, everything runs fine, probably as DP 1.4 DSC over Thunderbolt. Sound, brightness, and the ports work fine too. However, if I hook up a second mini-DP to DP cable in order to get uncompressed DP1.4 dual HBR2 over TB, the screen goes dark. The TB controller is the Maple Ridge JHL8540 so it should be able to handle dual HBR2 over TB but I suspect that the Nvidia driver doesn't know how to handle it. Anyone with Maple Ridge TB4 having success with uncompressed dual tile?

No I bought one and it didn't work at all

The Apple ThunderBolt4 cable included doesn't work,It turns monitor on for a few secs then goes off.

I purchased Plugable Thunderbolt 4 Cable so My Studio Display works fine with Windows 11 but sound & webcam & mic & usb hub aren't work.

Updated bootcamp drivers but no luck,Anyone have same situation ?

I'm using i9 9900K | Gigabyte Z390 Designare discrete thunderbolt 3 support with 3070ti

Thank you so much.

For the sound/webcam/mic issue, ensure you have the latest TB driver for your motherboard, here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-DESIGNARE-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-thunderbolt

@BeatCrazy thank you so much .It already updated to newest version(bios&thunderbolt firmware,ASD is 15.4 )

Received my Belkin VR cable today, happy to report it works perfectly!

Full 5K60 at 8, 10 and 12 bits, sound is perfect and the disortion is gone. GPU is a 2080 TI which has DSC support.

Bought it here:

Maybe it's because of "PCIE tunneling". Here's something I found before:
...
Recent Intel Thunderbolt firmware connection manager has support for
another security level, SL5, that disables PCIe tunneling. This option
can be turned on from the BIOS.
...

It might be the problem but unfortunately it doesn't have any kind of that feature in BIOS(i think it does available in THB4).Thank you anyway ;)
