Hilarious is all I can say to that. Apple would not even last for long in hard core Enterprise IT. Different ball game which requires lot of transparency, lot of vendor co-ordination, lot of backwards compatibility and other things like extended hardware and software support that Apple can't fathom doing. Oh and once you start going beyond web and email in enterprise IT - that's where it gets tough - people using Macs in IT don't go much beyond that and feel it's all easy ride!

If they were the 90% share Jobs wouldn't like the Anti trust suits over and over and over again. He would feel like an abused wife.

BTW. If Apple was the only computer.
1) 90% of IT jobs would disappear since you don't need as much support, less problems and so on. (I know this for a fact. In Ericsson they had 1 support personal per 10PC and 1 support per 100 Unix system)

If Apple was the only Unix vendor out there, I'd need about 3 administrators for 1 box. Apple's Unix is not as able as entreprise grade Unix systems like Solaris, HP-UX or even Linux.

3? What are they midgets that have to stand on each others shoulders to reach the desk? Or must be some real sh** admins. 3 for 1 box LOL

2) We would have flying cars, clean energy and solved world hunger. I have seen so many innovation go up in flames thanks to blue screen of death. At Ericsson we had to do simulations on phones/base stations. These simulations last 3-4 weeks at 100% CPU utilization. Keeping a Windows based server up for 1 month with 100% load is almost impossible. When it crash: need to start over.

 Wait you are serious?

If you don't work as a Unix systems administrator, you don't know how much we've been spoiled with real entreprise grade systems.

The SUS does not garantee enterprise grade storage and process management, only bare minimum requirements to call a OS Unix.

I used enterprise grade, its awesome. Just the 3 for 1 box seemed weird, maybe I missed sarcasm. Your posts read like gibberish to me a lot of time, not an insult FYI. I am only halfway nerd :p

Why are there many less Apple Servers than Solaris / HP-UX / Linux? Apple Unix is a PITA.

F if I know man. My 1st guess would be cost.

What I wrote was a translation of parts of the court decision. The court said something along the lines: "You can tell the difference, but consumers don't hold them side by side and compare them, they see that someone uses an Apple iPad and is really happy with it, then they go to a shop and see the Samsung tablet, and they think it is the product they saw earlier and buy it". So it is not the differences that count, it is the similarities. And yes, the court there said very clearly that Samsung is using this design to take advantage of Apple's reputation, to have people buying their tablet because they think it is the Apple product that they wanted. And that they are clearly misleading the consumer.

You can argue all you like, but I am sure this court in Germany knows more about German and European law than you do and they got it right according to European law.

Point taken, but, you're missing the point (of my argument). I'm talking about the design, not what Samsung is trying to do. The design in question is very generic and basic. Hell it doesn't need to be thrown out on prior art, it can be thrown out on the fact that it is obvious and not novel.

My hyperbole was meant to point out that OS X is just not as robust and full featured as an Enterprise grade Unix system. While it makes a good desktop/consumer OS, it would not last long in the data center, replacing the offerings from HP, Oracle, IBM and other entreprise vendors.

IMO, no.

A company I know has just purchased switches, worth about $40k. They could have upgraded a few enterprise servers. The money was earmarked a few years ago.

Well if I made purchasing decisions for that kind of stuff I wouldn't touch Apple anyway since their Pro/enterprise view is ignoring it. Far as what is a PITA, people whine about everything anyway. Some like and are more comfy with one interface and hate another etc... Nothing is flawless by any means, personal preference is king.

Gotcha. I do know most use what you mentioned. We all know Apple doesn't seem to care about enterprise anyway. I find that strange since there is a lot of money there to be made. I dont think Apple's own data center is using their own stuff either for that matter.... psycho Jobs. lol

This is getting ridiculous protecting patents is one thing, but this is just bullying away all competitors; are they trying to create a monopole?

you know chances are the pc are being used by the employees and the unix system would be servers side. This means you need more computers per person.

TBH, I agree - so.. what are they using... Linux... or Microsoft Windows... or a custom OS?

Ok, this is getting out of hand. I know companies have to defend their IP, but personally I'd never confuse a Xoom or Galaxy for an iPad.

Not you, but the general public does. During last Superbowl, a new Xoom ad played, and almost everyone in the room said: "Look, a new iPad commercial!".

Remember when Microsoft sued Lindows just because their name was too close to Windows to confuse people? Well, as ridiculous it may sound, Microsoft won the trial, and Lindows had to change their name to Linspire.

Once a case sets a precedent, there's great chance that in newer cases the Plaintiff will win the trial.

Look a new iPad, even thought the commerical was CLEARLY the MOTOROLA XOOM.

MS didn't win the trial, they lose it and then they paid a lot of millions to Lindows to BUY the name
