For the love of all that is holy, if they do this I hope they sense pressure and not skin contact. Otherwise every single case design that covers the buttons will no longer work.

Ironically I haven't had any buttons fail on iPhones since my iPhone 5. The current design is robust and reliable. I don't know why they're changing it.

well to be fair everyone the laptop trackpads damn if I can tell they aren't really clicky but they are haptic.
Also that solid state home button from iphones yore was incredibly realistic.

But what worries me about this side button stuff is all of the space needed for the vibration mechanism and you also need touch sensors. Seems like you are not saving that much?

great volume button on iPhone 14 Pro stops clicking when pressed - need to use alcohol lens cleaner to get it clicking again.

No there won’t, they (thankfully) only removed the SIM on US models and most of the rest of the world is nowhere near ready for eSIM only.
I'd expect all iPhone 15's to go eSIM. The U.S.-only iPhone 14 is Apple given the world notice that all future iPhones will be eSIM only.

Change for the sake of change, but also if the only change/upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max is a faster 3nm processor, not that many people will upgrade to it.

So the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will get USB-C (and at faster transfer speeds than regular 15), faster 3nm processors, slightly improve camera, and if this rumor is true, sold-state buttons.

Potentially hints? Might as well say:

Apple Supplier might think about considering the possibility that maybe consulting an oracle could theoretically indicate a nonzero chance at a concievable iPhone 15 Pro With Solid-State Buttons

CEO wouldn't mention it unless the customer has a significant impact on revenue. Nobody else but Apple would be launching 2H'23.

Solid state keys? Go the other direction and bring back a physical keyboard.

Sometimes I do wish Apple can get inspired by Blackberry Passport. Why not offer an iPhone with a physical keyboard, LOL. That's something different! Forget about the foldable iPhone.

YESSSSS OMG!!! Now that plastic spacer where the sim card slot used to be is going to have that space utilized with these new Taptic Engine’s! Shows how much planning goes into the iPhone in regards to interativity and it’s evolution. This just settles it imo. Solid state buttons for the win!!!!
