They haven't started manufacturing them yet? 11 days until the event, and they're just thinking of starting to "gear up" to make them? I guess that means they won't be shipping soon after the event.
Indeed. I would have expected them to have "geared up" production many weeks ago. But maybe that's just for the new budget model. Recent rumours suggest that the 10.5" Pro replacement won't come until later. Maybe they're gearing up for that one only now.

Or maybe half of these rumours are just not to be trusted.

However, I'm pretty confident we'll see a new iPad of some sort in the next few weeks.

I wonder if the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil will now be supported by the lower cost iPads? Seems a bit convoluted to be launching new devices that only support the 1st gen.

The Air 2 is definitely usable, but has trouble with HEVC
What encoding profile does yours struggle with? Are you talking about recording or playback?

They have a semi open design with a decent soundstage, if you close them sound stage is going to be affected and they will have more the "sound inside your head" feeling.

Absolutely! I recently put some silicone skins on mine that have an in-ear tip and man did the bass skyrocket to the point where I've actually had to change the EQ dramatically from where it used to sit. I love having more low end but it seems to drown out the mids much more.

AirPods need little improvement. It’s a great product.

Making it water resistant would be a good start, different colors would be nice too.

I agree that it's a great product by the multiple "Qtips" I see out and about on the weekends. It sounds great for such a tiny device and battery lasts as long as how you use it, I can't complain.

AirPods need size/fit options more than it needs alternate colours. Let's hope Apple understands this.

They won't. Apple hasn't changed the shape of the earphone since the wired ones came out long ago. If they just roughened up the surface a bit they would stay in easier.

I’m not sure I’ve ever had my ipad 12.9 answer a call automatically. Nor my mac. Nor my watch. On all of them I have to actively click the answer button. I answer calls on all my devices and haven’t had that issue. Are you on a beta? I’m on 12.1.2 for iphone se, 12.1.1 for ipp 12.1 gen 1, 5.1.2 on s1 watch, and 10.14.1 on 2018 mac mini. My son also answers calls on his ipad air 2 and his iphone SE without issue.

Honestly I’m still troubleshooting it, but in this situation I don’t answer the call on the iPad, but I see it “ringing” alongside the phone. I answer on the phone, and I hear nothing. I switch the input on the phone from AirPods to speakers, but nothing happens. Today I turned off the “answer calls on iPad” feature and so far things are working great. Using 12.1 across the board, not a beta tester. I’ve also seen threads on Apple Support that are similar, mostly discussing the issue relative to a phone and watch.

I'm not getting the need to 'mass produce' the iPad. Everyone has one, and the new version admittedly doesn't include much that would cause them to trade up.
And you know this how? Product hasn't even been announced and the rumors are all over the board on what's coming.

The iPad Air 2 plays back most 1080p 8-bit HEVC stuff (from various sources) just fine. However, 10-bit 1080p files are a problem, and 10-bit 4K HEVC files are an impossibility. Some 8-bit 4K HEVC files are also a problem. 8-bit 4K HEVC recorded on an iPhone will usually play back smoothly but scrubbing can be very choppy.

Also, even when 8-bit HEVC plays back fine, it eats a lot of battery.

This is my hope, as well. The Pencil 2 is what I really want. Hard to justify spending $1000 for an IPP to get it however. I could definitely do for $500 or so (trading in my Air2).

Apple suppliers ‘gearing up for Mac production…’ would be considerably appreciated.

(Particularly the line that will churn out updates to the iMac.)

AirPods need little improvement. It’s a great product.

The batteries in them give up the ghost after just 2 years of daily use. Not surprising since Li-ion batteries have 500 cycles & lose 50% by 1000 and would go thru 2-4 cycles a day on avg. So as it stands without the ability to simply replace the batteries, AirPods are an $80+ per yr subscription to wireless earphones. But you think that's a "great product" needing "little improvement".

First and foremost, how about improving the sound? Or do we no longer care about how good our headphones sound anymore? Sound quality is the one thing that has held me back from buying them. That and I had Beats X that recently died and waiting to see if new ones are announced by end of March.

Aslo, certify them as sweat proof, better fit, more/better touch controls, wireless charging case, and improving battery life never hurts. They are a good product in its first iteration but lots of ways they can be improved.

Yes. $80 annually is pocket change for this amazing product.

So excited. My friend just bought airpods off me for $90. Completely surprised and now excited for these!

I guessed as much. All of my files are 1080 and I do remember the 4k stuff stuttering as well.

Thanks for the info!

Right there with you. I'm down to 30 minute of use per charge IF I AM LUCKY.

Need new.
How long have you had yours? And, not trying to be snarky, have you done the reset/re-pairing with them? I noticed that one of mine gave the low battery after like 30 minutes yesterday. Put them in the charger and they jumped from like 16% to 89% in like 30 seconds. Found something online stating I should try pairing them again (which I did). Battery reporting seems to be back to normal.

So my question is, how are the AirPods any different from the wired EarPods when wearing those, except the AirPods are just missing the wire. I just don’t understand how they someone can say they look ‘so ridiculous’ , when they literally resemble the wired earpods.

Not really... not to me. Just my opinion but the wires ones don’t look nearly as obtrusive. Not even close.

Honestly, AirPods are easily one of the Apple products in a very long time. I look forward to the 2nd gen! :)
